CHAPTER SIXTY FOUR
CHAPTER SIXTY FOUR
Aria's POV
“I knew there was something about you, and I was so sure that it had more to do with getting Kael than doing your job.” Thalyn scoffed as she leaned down to have a closer look at me through the driver's seat window.
I ignored her and kept my gaze forward. I didn't need her getting on my nerves and I knew what she was up to anyway.
“You aren't going to talk now that you've gotten all that you're looking for?” Thalyn laughed. She turned to Kael and said to him, “You could have done better when choosing someone. I've never known you to like so much drama. But look at you. You take out your time to accompany her to count crimes on the head of her boyfriend. Or should I say, fiance. Is this really how much you will go for this thing?”
“That's enough. I don't have time for all of this.” Kael said, walking past her so he could get the door and let himself into the car.
“You finally found yourself a slut yeah? Who told you she wouldn't do the same for you like she has done for her long term boyfriend. Have you really lost your thoughts? There's nothing she has to offer you. She's just using you to settle all the issues she has in her life and you're doing such a good job in addressing it.”
I couldn't stand all the nonsense Thalyn was saying and I opened the door and let myself out of the car. I was completely irritated by how well she was trying to label me like I begged Kael to do any of the things he was doing for me.
Kael ran after me immediately as I was walking out of the gates of the station.
“Aria!” He yelled after me.
“What? You all should really just let me be. I'm nobody's option and fuck it! I don't even want to be pitied by anyone so if you're doing all these for me out of pity, don't bother anymore.” I stopped and turned to continue walking away when I stopped again to add, “And you know what, Thalyn isn't lying to you. I have nothing to offer you as well. You don't have to look out for me. I'm very grateful that you've helped this far. I wouldn't want to stand in your way or be a burden to you anymore.”
Kael walked over to me, held me close and kissed me on the lip outside.
I had to force myself off him.
That same moment Ethan and Linda walked out of the station. They had been released on bail because Ethan agreed to do the Lie detector testing.
I looked around and watched as their jaws dropped, including Thalyn’s after the kiss.
“Why the hell would you do that?” I yelled at him and hastened my steps as I left the station.
Kael followed after me, calling out to me, but I immediately found a taxi and hopped into it before he could catch up.
“Fuckkkk!” I yelled inside the taxi.
I was glad the taxi driver didn't bother asking me about what was going on with me but kept on driving.
I gave him an address, and I really missed my friends.
I didn't even know I was going to fill them in on all that had happened.
One thing I was certain of was the fact that both Ethan and Linda were going to leave my house when they got back and I wasn't going to give him listening ears.
I arrived home, meeting my house as sparkling as ever. Even the clothes that I thought could not be saved were dry-cleaned and well-sorted.
They did a meticulous job to ensure that everywhere was well tidied.
I sat on my sofa and took in the fresh air that filled the apartment.
I wasn't even surprised that things felt lighter in the house even without Ethan being present.
I turned on the television to find a display of Ethan on the news. All the companies he had stolen from were put on display with his account being barred.
He was totally exposed. I didn't even feel anything for him while I watched it and I wasn't happy either.
I turned off the television and received a call from Miranda.
“Girl! I just saw the news. Is it really true?” She whispered as though she was in a place where she didn't want anyone to know what she was saying.
I scoffed. “I can't even explain how emotionally draining these past days have been to me. Everything is true. Ethan had been embezzling money from my company for over two years now. And they were not just little money. It just baffles me how he was able to keep doing that despite knowing how well I was struggling to keep the company standing.”
“Fuck! That guy is a real piece of shit! His face doesn't even look like he would ever be able to pull up something as terrific as that. He's such an asshole!” Miranda says.
If anything, I know she would always be on my side whether I was in the wrong or not.
“Have you heard from Roseline?” I asked Miranda.
Miranda stayed quiet for a while before she answered, “I don't think you should be looking for her for now. She called me when she saw the news, saying she doesn't want to believe that's true about Ethan. I asked her why but she insisted that Ethan could never do something like that, saying you must have painted him that way on the media with the help of Kael. She feels you did that to Ethan to save your name, as it was easier to put the blame on him. She added that you always liked Kael, so it made sense to her that you'd do that to Ethan.”
I scoffed. “I know Rose and Ethan are friends, but I couldn't believe Rose would find it that easy to make an excuse for Ethan over my truth.”
