Chapter 222: Regret And Longing

Regina's POV

I stopped pacing around the room as the guard entered, a look of concern etched on his face. I had been on edge since returning to the country, leaving my child, Ryan, in the care of Alice and Isabel. The thought of being separated from him was unbearable, and I couldn't shake the fear that I might never get the chance to tell him how I truly felt.

My mind kept replaying our last conversation, and I regretted the words I had spoken. I had lied to him, and the weight of that deception hung heavy on my conscience. I wished I could take back those words, or at least get the chance to correct my mistakes.

The guard's voice brought me back to the present. "Ma'am," he said, "I have an update on Daniel's condition."

I felt a surge of anxiety, my heart racing with anticipation. "What is it?" I asked, my voice barely above a whisper.

The guard hesitated before speaking, his words hanging in the air like a challenge. "He's awake, Ma'am."

I felt a wave of relief wash over me as the guard delivered the news. "He's out of danger, Ma'am," he said. "And he was actually discharged from the hospital yesterday."

I let out a sigh of relief, feeling a weight lift off my shoulders. I closed my eyes, thanking the lord for giving me another chance to correct my mistakes. It had taken almost losing Daniel for me to realize that I couldn't leave without him. The thought of living without him was unbearable.

As I reflected on our time apart, I realized that my anger towards him had been a driving force that kept me going. Everything I did, every decision I made, was because of him. He had given me a purpose to live, even if it was a negative one. But now, I see things differently. I wanted to win him back, to make things right between us.

This time, I was determined to do things differently. I would fight for him, for us, with every fiber of my being. I would prove to him that I was worthy of his love, that I was willing to do whatever it took to make him happy. I took a deep breath, feeling a sense of resolve wash over me. It was time to take action, to start making things right.

I instructed the guard to send for the driver as I walked out of the building, my determination to see Daniel and make things right driving me forward. The chauffeur was waiting for me by the car, and he immediately drove off towards Daniel's mansion as soon as I got in.

As we approached the mansion, I was shocked to discover that the automatic gate swung open without hesitation, clearly recognizing my face and authorizing my entry. I felt a mix of emotions - surprise, gratitude, and a hint of hope.

Once we arrived at the mansion, I quickly got out of the car and rushed to the front door, ringing the doorbell repeatedly. But there was only silence. I waited for what felt like an eternity, but Daniel didn't respond.

Undeterred, I called out to him, my voice echoing through the stillness. "Daniel, I know you can hear me! Please open the door. We need to talk. I'm sorry, Daniel. I'm so sorry."

I screamed out the words, my voice cracking with emotion. I was willing to do whatever it took to get through to him, to make him listen to me. I stood there, waiting and hoping, my heart pounding in my chest.

I stood before the mansion, my voice cracking as I begged Daniel to please hear me out. "I didn't mean for everything that happened," I pleaded, tears streaming down my face. But my words were met with an unsettling silence.

I stood there for hours, my eyes fixed on the door, willing Daniel to open it and forgive me. But the door remained shut, and I was left with nothing but the sound of my own heartbeat.

As the night wore on, I reluctantly returned to the car, my chauffeur looking at me with concern. I asked him to wait with me, and we settled in for a long, sleepless night.

I drifted off into a fitful sleep, my ears straining to hear any sound from the mansion. I was waiting for Daniel to hear my voice, to forgive me and open the door. But the silence was deafening, and I was left with nothing but my own regret and longing.
