Chapter 35 35

Chapter 35 35
“As proof of your death at my hands or should I say my sword.” Yeah, like I was going to let either his hands or his sword touch me.  It would have been easier for him to kill me if he could have kept his eyes off the girls. Everytime I jiggled a little his attention was drawn to them. Ugh. Men.

“How long have you been a vampire? A day?” Ok, that seemed to have pissed him off. He launched himself across the tree and came at me hard and fast. I stepped to the side and stuck my foot out. Ow Ow OW. Not a good idea when you are barefoot. That was going to leave a mark. On the bright side, whatever had been stuck in my foot was dislodged. Wow. Being tripped and falling face first onto the ground seemed to make him even angrier than my words. He got to his feet with growl.  I used my free hand to swing across the tree before he could retaliate.

“No! Two years.” He almost got me with his next thrust. I was so distracted by the fact that I was dueling a two year old vamp who had killed three people. Out of reflex I had brought my sword up to block his blow otherwise, I’d have had a pierced navel. Again. So didn’t want to go back down that road. Belly button rings can be dangerous to your health in a fight.

“So to summarize, you killed Cyrus Howl and Forrest and River Dancer as your final initiation into The Syndicate?”

“Don’t forget you! They are going to start me off in charge of my own cell after I kill you.” He made several quick thrusts towards my, hoping I wouldn’t notice the punch he was getting ready to throw. I ignored the thrusts and raised my sword to block the punch. He swore when his fist collide with hard metal.

“We need anything else?” I called to Connor who was standing on the edge of the tree line with Tristan.

“What the fuck are you talking about?” My dueling partner had apparently not noticed the arrival of the others. I’d lay money on him not realizing that there were a couple of werewolves just inside the tree line. He was too young to have learned how to truly listen and scent the area.

“We’re good.” Connor called back.

“It’s go time!” I called back.  I shifted my stance from defense to offense. During our fight, I’d been keeping my thrusts slightly clumsy, making sure I didn’t actually get him. Basically letting him feel like he was winning. Now it was time to take him down.  I charged him and delivered three rapid blows which to give him credit he blocked. However, he failed to see my elbow coming.  It slammed into his face while he was off balance from blocking me. I immediate brought my sword up and he blocked two more blows. While he was watching my sword I kneed him in the groin as hard as I could. He fell to the ground holding himself with blood gushing from what looked like a broken nose. Ah. It’s good to be me.

“Time?” I asked Connor.

“Twenty-seven seconds.”

“Damn, I’ve still got it.” After I sent my sword home, I started walking to my audience.  I’d only taken two steps when Connor and Tristan’s eyes widen. Without looking, I sent a fire ball over my shoulder where I could feel the other vamp. I spun around in time to see the blue flames licking across his chest. He was franticly beating at it. Then he tried rolling around on the ground to put it out. Clearly no one had taught him blue flames mean wizard fire and can not be extinguished. The flames would only go out after they had consumed their target. Lucky for him, I’d hit him in the chest. Less than thirty seconds later he was nothing but ash. The last thing he saw was me, an old woman, smirk at him.

“You did that just to add to my paper work didn’t you?” Connor tossed me my clothes as he accused me.

“No. But I totally would have if I had thought of it.” I quickly started getting dressed. Only to discover my bra was missing. Great now I was going to stay all jiggly.

“Anyone ever tell you that you are a cold person?”  I rolled my eyes at Connor’s question.

“Of course I’m cold! I’ve been dead for five centuries. Duh.”  Man I loved it when he set me up like that. I noticed Tristan looked a little shell shocked. “What’s wrong pup?”

“Less than a minute. It took less than a minute for you to beat him in a sword fight and set him on fire and kill him.” I couldn’t tell if it was wonder or horror that was causing him to speak slowly.

“And that kid, is why you want her on your team.” Thomas said as he walked into the clearing. He turned to me before asking “Can you please go undo whatever you did to my kids? They get into enough trouble when we can see them. I don’t even want to imagine the damage they could inflict invisible.”

I thought about that for a moment. The scenarios that filled my head were not good. “Yeah, on it.” As a group we headed back to the house.
