Chapter 99: A THREAD OF HOPE

Yara arrived at the location, where the security personnel at the reception directed her down a corridor. At the end of the corridor, she spotted an elevator and a door marked with the room number she had been given earlier. She stopped at the door, her body tensing up. Her eyes welled up with tears, her palms grew clammy, and a sense of dread gripped her. Had the worst happened? Had she lost her?

With a sudden motion, she pushed open the door. Her gaze locked onto Dom, who slowly raised his head, his eyes downcast, as if conveying a message without words. Yara made her way over to Davina. There she was, her beloved sister, looking utterly shattered, though not just physically this time. Davina's tears flowed, her screams echoed, and anything within reach became a target for her distress.

It was the first time Yara had seen her sister baring such raw pain, a sight that tore at her heart. How do you find the right words for someone who has always been the pillar of strength, the foundation for everyone else? Yara attempted to speak to her, but it seemed like Davina couldn't hear anything beyond the grip of her despair, as if she had been consumed by it completely.

"Davina, come back to me!" Yara said, shaking her gently, trying to bring her back. "SOEUR!"

Davina finally paused and looked at Yara. Her gaze was filled with anguish as she whispered, "I lost her... I lost my baby."

Yara sat down beside her, embracing her with all the strength she could muster. Davina shivered, her body cold, her heart seemingly on the verge of escaping her chest. Yara looked deep into her eyes, finding the words she needed to say.

"I wish I could shoulder this weight, this pain, for you. I wish I could have been strong enough to protect you all. I wish I could throw this feeling far away and exact vengeance on whoever did this to you. But right now, Davina, I can't... All I can promise is that I'll be here with you. I'll take care of you."

Yara took a moment and then continued, "There's no greater pain for a mother than losing a child. I know that. But we'll move forward together, alright? And up there, our little star will watch over us."

Davina opened up, crying on Yara's shoulder. They stayed like that for a while until Yara felt her sister gradually calming down. Davina began to share her story, particularly about Angel. Yara froze; they had no idea who Angel truly was. Everything Davina had endured and suffered, everything Yara was trying to do to avenge her, and to make matters worse, she had lost her most precious possession to her own sister, to the very person Davina had fought so hard to honor.

Davina also spoke about Micael's condition. The doctor had informed Dom that he needed emergency surgery due to severe injuries. Despite this, Micael, ever stubborn, had refused an X-ray or lung scan. Yara took a deep breath, a chill running down her spine as her heart turned cold once more.

Dom returned to the room and approached them, his gaze lost and troubled. He conveyed that Micael had just come out of a complicated surgery and was in the room nearby. Yara glanced at Davina, who nodded her agreement. Yara kissed her sister's forehead before saying, "I'll be right back."

Leaving the room, Yara entered the one where Micael lay unconscious. She took a seat beside him, the doctor entering to explain his overall condition. Micael had suffered extensive injuries; a shard had pierced his lung, causing a pulmonary embolism. Fortunately, they had removed the foreign object in time, and he had responded to treatment. The surgery had been perilous; Micael had lost a significant amount of blood. Thus, it would likely be some time before he woke up. There was no guarantee that he would wake up at all. He needed time, and they needed to hold onto hope.

Yara held Micael's hand tightly, her misty eyes reflecting a desperate cry, a fear unknown until then. A thought assaulted her: was she in love? She spent hours beside him in the room, the hum of the equipment filling the space, until the sharp sounds of the machines alerted the doctors, who rushed in.

"Code blue! Cardiac arrest! Get her out of here!" one of the doctors urgently ordered.

She resisted, her gaze fixed on Micael as the resuscitation procedure unfolded before her. Various substances were injected, everything to bring him back.

The doctor made a gesture of sorrow, addressing Yara. "I'm sorry."

The news hit Yara like a punch to the gut. She broke free from the nurses trying to restrain her, pushed everyone out of her way, and embraced Micael tightly, tears and sobs escaping her.

"React, please, wake up, my love!" she pleaded as she shook him.

She shook him frantically. "Don't die, you idiot! Not now that I love you! Come on, react!"

The desperate punches against his chest expressed her anguish. Amidst the desperation, she heard the machine beep and saw the monitors come back to life.

"Ah... Easy, love..." he whispered, still breathless.

"You're alive..." Yara murmured, passionately kissing his face and lips, overflowing with emotion. After the initial shock, she gently pushed him on the chest. "You almost gave me a heart attack!"

He let out a smile. "Micael and his dramas."

A glance toward the door revealed Adam, holding Davina in his arms. The relief in their eyes carried a glimmer of hope where it seemed none remained.

"You didn't think you'd get rid of me that easily, did you?" he joked, dissipating the tension of the moment.

Smiles spread through the room as Micael resumed his carefree demeanor. For a moment, he turned serious, looking at his friend. Adam lowered his gaze, understanding passing between them without the need for words.

"I'm sorry, brother, sister-in-law," Micael muttered.

Davina's eyes met Adam's, and they embraced, a gesture transcending words.
