Chapter 6

Around 2 am, Larry woke up hearing Rebecca screaming. He got up and hurried across the hall. He went in and turned on the lights. He went over to her bed and pulled her against him. "It's all right. I'm here." He said as he held her. Rebecca quieted down against his chest. "Was it about what happened?"

"Yes. I knew the guy somehow. I don't know how. He was a bad man, Larry. I was so scared." Rebecca said as she cried.

"You're safe here. I won't let anything happen to you." Larry said as he rubbed his hand up and down her back. They held each other the several minutes. "Are you feeling better?"

"A little, but I don't want to let you go."

"Why don't you lie back down and try to get some sleep?"

Rebecca let go and laid back. "Will you stay here with me?"

"If that's what you want," Larry said. "I'll sit right here."

"Will you lay down next to me?"

"Of course." He walked around to the other side of the bed and laid down on top of the blankets. He reached over and turned out the light. Rebecca rolled onto her side facing him. He put his arm around her. She put her head on his chest. "Try to get some sleep," Larry said.

"Thank you, Larry," Rebecca said.

"No problem." Larry said as he stared at the ceiling. He held her until they both fell asleep.

Larry walked out of his room dressed in his suit and tie as Rebecca walked out of her room. "Good morning," he said. "How did you sleep?"

"Fine. Thanks for staying with me."

"You're welcome. There's coffee in the kitchen. Do you want breakfast? I can call the restaurant."

"No thanks. Not right now."

"If you need something just ask Shelly. That's what she's here for."

"I will." Rebecca said as she grabbed Larry's hand. She stopped him and stood facing him. She moved her head closer and kissed him lightly on the lips. She kissed him more. Larry pulled her close and deepened the kiss.

A knock at the door made Larry pull away. "That's Shelly and Duane." He said then walked to the door. He opened it. "Come in."

"Good morning, sir." Shelly said as she walked in.

"Hello sir." Duane said. "Brian is going to call you later. He has more information for you, but he's getting more."

"Ok. Thanks."

"Are you all right?"

"Yes, I'm fine." Larry said as he followed them into the room. He went into the kitchen and to the coffee pot. He got a travel mug out and poured coffee in it.

Rebecca came into the kitchen and stood next to him. "How long are you going to be?"

"I should be home by noon."

"All right. Have a good day," Rebecca said. She looked up at him.

Larry looked at her then turned away. He walked into the room with Shelly and Duane. "I'll try to be back by noon."

"I'll walk you out." Duane said. He followed Larry to the door. They walked out. "Is this getting personal?"

"What do you mean?"

"Should I be worried? We don't know who she is. For all we know she is faking her amnesia and is trying to steal from you."

"She's not faking it, Duane," Larry said. "Just keep an eye on her. For all we know someone really meant to kill her and wants her dead." Larry got into the elevator.

Around ten o'clock, Larry sat in his office looking at his computer. He picked up his phone and dialed Rebecca's number.

"Hello?" Rebecca answered.

"Hi, how are you doing?"

"I'm fine, I guess."

"What's wrong?"

"I'm bored. I wish I knew who I was."

"Well, then I guess I will make you happy," Larry said. "I am looking at your driver's license. Your name is Rebecca Chandler."

"Really?"

"Yes. Brian finally found you in all his searches. He is still working on finding more out but I thought I would share that with you."

"Am I from around here?"

"No. Your driver's license is from Ohio. I do have an address which Brian is checking out."

"Mr. Newman, Mr. Morris is on his way up." Larry's secretary said.

Larry pressed a button. "Thank you. Have him wait in the conference room," he said. "Rebecca, I have to go. I'll call you later, all right?"

"Thank you, Larry."

"You're welcome. You need to get out of that room and talk to Shelly. She's really nice."

"I'll think about it."

"I got to go, but I'll call you later."

"Ok. Bye." Rebecca said then hung up.

Larry hung up then put his phone in his pocket. He got up and walked out of his office.

Rebecca sat in the living room around one when her phone rang. She picked it up and answered it. "Hello?"

"Hi, what are you up to?"

"Just watching television," Rebecca said. "Shelly said you were running late."

"Yes, I guess you could say that," Larry said. "My father scheduled a couple meetings. He also insisted that I go to the party tonight. I told him I would if I could bring a date. Would you come with me?"

"You want me to go with you to a party?"

"Yes," Larry said. "Please?"

"I don't know. I don't have anything to wear. I wouldn't know how to act or say."

"Shelly can take care of a dress and I will be by your side the entire night."

"Larry, I don't know," Rebecca said. "What if whoever did this to me sees me?"

"I don't think these people would beat somebody up, but there will be security there."

"All right. I will do it for you."

"Great. I won't be able to pick you up, but I will send the limo to pick you up and I will meet you there."

"All right. I guess that will be fine."

"I will talk to Shelly about the arrangements. She'll set everything up."

"Do you know how many Rebecca Chandler's there are? Can you tell me anything else? Do you know if I am involved with anybody?"

"Brian hasn't gotten back to me with anything else," Larry said. "He will let me know as soon as he knows something."

"And then you'll tell me?"

"Yes, of course."

"All right. Do you want to talk to Shelly? She just came back in."

"All right. I see you later." Rebecca handed Shelly the phone.
