“You really thought I went overseas, studied my ass off, became the youngest trauma surgeon on record... just to get back at you?”
Faye's voice shook with disbelief. Her eyes narrowed at the man on the hospital bed…shirtless, stitched, smug.
Kai Parsons didn’t blink. He just smiled. That same goddamn smirk that had haunted her through six years and three different countries. That smirk that said he knew exactly how to ruin her without lifting a finger.
“I said so,” he replied calmly, voice dripping with male arrogance. “What are you going to do about it, sweetheart?”
Before she could speak, he grabbed the wrist she had just pointed at him and yanked her forward. One smooth pull and her body slammed into his…between his open legs, chest to chest, heart to heart, like a car crash waiting to happen.
“I told you to stop calling me that,” she snapped, trying to wriggle free. “Let me go.”
His grip only tightened. “I won’t. And stop struggling. I’m trying very hard not to fuck up your pretty little white coat fantasy.”
Her breath caught.
Because she felt it.
Hard. Hot. Pressed between her belly and his sweat-slicked abs.
Faye stilled.
Her eyes locked onto his, and for a beat..just a beat..he looked almost as wrecked as she felt.
“You’re hard?” she hissed. “Are you serious right now? You’ve just been shot!”
He shrugged with infuriating calm. “You’ve been rubbing up against it since you walked in. I’m not made of stone, Faye.”
She shoved against his chest. “You’re unbelievable.”
He leaned in, voice low, rough. “You think I didn’t know it was you the moment they said the trauma specialist would be stitching me up? The second you walked in here wearing that self-righteous, too-good-for-me face, I got hard. I haven’t stopped.”
Her pulse was in her ears.
This bastard.
Six years ago, she had thrown her heart at his feet..and he had crushed it like he crushed every other thing that dared want him. She had begged for his love. And he had walked away.
Left her on the cold marble floor of her father’s villa, mascara smudged, dignity in shreds.
And now?
Now he was back in her city, her hospital, her life…after she had just been transferred unexpectedly, forced into a marriage with a stranger... and forced to be here.
Bandaging the same man who destroyed her.
“I should’ve let someone else remove that bullet,” she muttered, finally tearing herself away. Her fingers shook as she wrapped gauze around his arm, tighter than necessary.
When she finished, she stepped back like he burned.
“We’re done here,” she said tightly. “You can leave now, Mr. Parsons.”
He stood…slowly, like a god rising from his throne. His height and presence dwarfed the room.
But he didn’t leave.
Instead, he reached out, fingers brushing her jaw with surprising gentleness. She flinched, but he didn’t pull away.
“You hate me.”
“Like poison.”
“And you still haven’t told anyone what we used to be.”
“There’s nothing to tell.”
His eyes flicked down to her hand..the one still trembling.
“You’re shaking.”
“I’m fine.”
“You’re not.”
She turned away, voice sharp. “Go, Kai.”
But instead of listening, he stepped in behind her. Pressed his chest to her back. One hand on her hip. The other snaking around to her belly.
“Don’t tell me you didn’t come back hoping for this.”
She froze.
He nuzzled the side of her neck. “You didn’t come back for revenge. You came back because no one else ever made you scream like I did.”
Her knees wobbled.
His fingers brushed over her navel, lower.
“I hate you,” she whispered, voice splintering.
“I know.”
He kissed her throat, his lips barely a breath.
“But you still want me.”
Faye didn’t answer. Couldn’t. Her throat closed around the truth like a vice.
Because yes. God help her, yes. She wanted him. Hated him. Feared him. But still wanted him like fire wanted oxygen.
Kai didn’t wait for permission.
His hand slid lower.
Faye jolted, turning in his grip. “Don’t. Don’t touch me like that.”
But she didn’t pull away. Not fully.
His gaze locked onto hers. Ferocious. Hungry.
“Why? Because you’re scared I’ll remind you what it feels like to be ruined?” he said.
He gripped her jaw, not enough to hurt, just enough to still her trembling.
“You were mine first, Faye. You’ll be mine last.”
She slapped him.
The crack echoed.
His head barely turned.
And then he surged.
Mouth on hers, brutal. Dominant. Their teeth clashed, lips mashed, and his hand fisted her coat, wrenching it open. Buttons scattered across the tile floor. Her gasp disappeared into his mouth as he backed her into the counter.
“I hate you,” she hissed.
“Good.” He bit her lower lip, sucked it into his mouth. “Then fight me. Come on.”
She did.
Her hands shoved his chest, nails dragging down his skin. He growled and spun her, pinning her face-first against the cold steel.
“You always liked it rough,” he said in her ear.
Her breath fogged the counter.
He hiked up her skirt.
She gasped. “We can’t…Someone could walk in.”
“I don't care.”
Smug bastard!
He shoved her panties aside, fingers dragging through slick pussy heat.
“Still denying me?”
She whimpered.
“Tell me you don’t want this, and I’ll stop.”
Faye couldn’t speak.
Her hips bucked against him involuntarily.
Kai swore under his breath, undoing his belt one-handed.
His hand came around her throat, not choking, but anchoring.
“Say it.”
“I don’t…”
He pushed into her slowly. Too slowly.
“Say it, Faye.”
“I don’t want you,” she breathed.
He bottomed out with one brutal thrust.
She cried out, legs shaking.
Kai growled against her shoulder. “Liar.”
Every stroke after that was punishing, precise, a furious rhythm that matched the storm between them. Her hands scrambled for purchase on the counter as he slammed into her, again and again, his grip never loosening.
“You feel this?” he panted. “This…right here..” He punctuated each word with a deep thrust. “...belongs to me.”
“Screw you!” she sobbed.
“Already am.”
His fingers slid down, found her clit. She arched violently.
“No…Kai…”
“Yes. Let go.”
He knew her body. Knew every sound, every shiver. He worked her until she shattered, spasming around him, mouth open in a soundless scream.
And then he followed, roaring her name as he buried himself one last time.
Silence reigned.
Only the sound of their breath. Her shaking. His pulse crashing in his ears.
Kai pressed his forehead to her shoulder, arms caging her in.
“I hate you,” she whispered.
“You’ll love me again.”
“Never.”
He turned her to face him.
“Then I’ll make you hate everyone else more.”
