Chapter 66: Engagement party announcement

Along the ride home, the family of Joel that he had been looking for, began singing drunkenly at the back of the car. Joel pondered what made them so joyful after they had agitated him out so much that he vowed to punish his sister. He contacted Ham with a plan to tell him about his family that he had discovered.

“We’ve arrived at the shopping mall construction site where the billionaire and his business partner are. Did you find your family?” Ham inquired when he answered the phone. Gwen sat in the rear of the car as Ham drove with security personnel following him.

“They’re right here with me. I’d want to thank you for your assistance as well as your understanding of the circumstance that my family had put me in, due to their selfishness.” When he discussed them in his phone contact with Ham, his family shrank. They had no idea who he was conversing with.

“We just wanted to demonstrate your love for us, dad. We’ve observed that you’re a good father. Please forgive us for everything we’ve put you through. Don’t be bothered.” While Sandra was speaking, Joel’s phone call to Ham was cut off. Then he hung up the phone and focused on his daughter, whom he adores.

“I’m not going to be unhappy with you, sweetie. I’ll just die one day from the heart attack caused by your behavior. I’m not sure if that would make you happy.” He replied and then dove to his house. He drove into the yard, but his younger daughter began to cry, moved by the way her father spoke.

He turned to face her, grinned, and said, “I’m joking, I won’t die and leave you alone in this evil world.” She grinned when she heard her father speak positively about life.

“Anne came up with the idea. I didn’t want to mislead you, Daddy. She simply wanted you to demonstrate your affection for us.” While they were getting out of the automobile, Lear yelled. Her father was walking to the house, leaving his wife and daughters to retrieve the shopping bags from the trunk of the car.

Sandra reprimanded Lear, “Who asked you about this? How do you want my father to perceive my mother?”

“But it hurt even in me to see my dad in this state of turmoil. Stop it!” Sandra shouted at Lear once more when she attempted to explain. She remained silent as she carried the shopping bags to the house. When they entered the house, they discovered Joel on the phone.

“Even when the family is together, your daddy is always on the phone. I just wish he could turn it off for the rest of the day. Just once, he should embrace his family.” Anne began to chastise Joel for wasting his time on the phone during a discussion. She was packing her groceries when she started talking. Her daughters remained silent but continued to assist her with the packing. Sandra heard her father say her name and wondered with whom he was speaking. She sat down next to him and listened in on the chat her father was having. He continued to speak while Sandra sat next to him, but she cut him off by asking, “With whom are you conversing, dad? I mean, you appear to be in another world.” Joel hung up the phone and clutched his daughter’s hand. While Sandra and her father talked, Anne and Lear stood by and watched.

“Your father’s business is dying. Our contract with Gwen will be ended, and I will be forced to lay off half of my security personnel. Right now, I’m looking for more clients who could benefit from my services. We are an independent security firm that survives on modest assignments from individuals and businesses. I’d have to talk to the billionaire behind my security guard.” Joel explained why he was making so many business calls. His daughter sympathized with him.

“You have also proven to be a strong guard for Mark. I’ll inform him when he returns. However, don’t you have any other enterprises in which I could invest?” Joel gazed at his daughter, as though taken aback by her offer to invest in his firm.

“You act as if you already have the billionaire’s money. What makes you talk like that, darling?” He questioned, and Sandra smiled as she struggled to tell her father about her net worth of the two million dollars that Mark had given her.

“I’m now his fiancée. Everything he owns is mine.” She then displayed her engagement ring to her father. His daughter’s engagement to the billionaire pleased him. On the same day, he announced a party.

He rose up and said to his wife, Anne, “Tonight, let it be the night to celebrate the engagement of my precious daughter. Then he looked to Sandra, who was sitting but looking up at her father, who was standing next to her. Anne approached her husband first, followed by Lear. Sandra rose up, and her father held her and lifted her up like if she were a child. Sandra screamed as her father spun her around. Joel put Sandra down as Lear approached. He spread her arms, expecting her father to hoist her up the same way he lifted Sandra. He did, in fact, hoist her up and swing about with her. He then sat her down.

“We need to alert Mark about the party tonight.” Sandra retrieved her phone from her pocket and dialed Joel’s number right away. While she was on the phone, her family was staring at her. Mark was still looking around the construction site.

he replied when he answered the phone, “We are almost done, darling. I’ll come home to get you. Are you okay?”

Joel said to Sandra, “Tell him about Gwen who is following him.” When Mark heard Joel whispering.

He asked, “Is that your dad? Gwen is nowhere to be seen around here. What is he on about?” Sandra handed the phone to her father, who spoke with Mark.

“If she hasn’t already arrived next to you, she will be there soon. She is enraged at the project you are working on with Diva.” He elaborated, but Mark was unmoved by what he heard.

Anne said as she drew Lear into the kitchen, “This doesn’t concern us. Let’s go eat the food we purchased. Leave the wealthy alone.” They left Sandra with her father, who was speaking with the billionaire.

“Please notify Diva about that father. Thank you for informing me. I’ll see you in a few hours.” Joel handed the phone to Sandra after Mark responded.

“I called you to alert you of the engagement party which I am preparing with my mom, my aunt will be here as well and my friend who work at the jewelry store.” Sandra informed Mark, but he was interrupted by Diva’s plea. Sandra felt as if Mark took her for granted.

She hung up the phone and told her father, “He is busy with her business matters. I’m not sure if he heard me.”

Then Mark called to inquire about what Sandra had just stated, explaining, “I was interrupted by one of the site employees. Please forgive me, my sweetheart. Could you please repeat what you just said?”

“My father is planning a big engagement party for us in the house. When you arrive, you will find everything ready for the celebration. Don’t tell me that you were interrupted again, Mark.” Sandra explained, but he laughed at the way she spoke in a bossy boy guide voice, as if she was forcing him. Sandra was taken aback by the way Mark chuckled. She gazed at her father, who sat down and stretched his hair.

She then focused her concentration on a phone chat with her fiancé. She could hear the females yelling at each other. Gwen was yelling at Diva as she approached Mark, who was standing close to Diva.

“I suppose I should leave. I hear your ex-wife’s voice and wonder what she’s doing on the construction site.” Gwen was getting closer while Sandra spoke with Mark, walking with Ham and the four guards she had taken from the Melon security business.

“This is Gwen. Thank you for keeping me informed about the party. I’ll talk to you later. Please greet the family on my behalf. I adore my wife.” Sandra was delighted as she heard Mark tell her about his feelings for her.

She said, “I love you too, my husband.” She then hung up when she noticed her father clapping his hands.

“What’s the problem, Dad? This is how my mother reacts when you tell her you love her. It’s normal, I mean.” Sandra inquired of her father.

Joel said, “I see the billionaire in a heavy conflict with his former wife. I am quite dissatisfied. By the way, I am delighted for you.

“He’s used to such squabbles. He is protected by his bodyguards. Allow me to go and assist my mother in the kitchen.” Sandra responded before departing from her father in the sitting room to assist her mother in the kitchen. Joel was left alone in the living room, playing the video game that his daughter, Lear, enjoyed.
