Chapter 471: James, You Are Stupid

Watching Emily walk away, James felt his heart tighten. It was really over between them.

Stepping out of City Hall, Emily looked up at the clear, sunny sky and smiled. She was finally free. She decided to treat herself to a nice meal.

As James exited City Hall, his phone rang. It was Andrew. "Mr. Smith, we've got a problem."

Emily took the divorce decree and headed straight home. Seeing the decree in her hand, Aiden, Chase, and Mia were all overjoyed. Isabella was so emotional that her eyes turned red. Her daughter was finally free.

But even though she was free now, the pain from the past wouldn't just disappear. Isabella still felt a pang of sorrow for her precious daughter.

After chatting with her family for a bit, Emily went to her room. Today was supposed to be a happy day, her divorce day. And she was happy, at first. But once she was alone in her room, thinking about James, who used to be tied to her, she felt a bit of sadness.

Not wanting to dwell on it, she pulled out her phone. To her surprise, she saw news about her and James's divorce.

#Breaking News: James and Emily Officially Divorced, Legally Ended Their Marriage Today.

Emily was silent. How could every little thing about her get captured by the paparazzi? The paparazzi in Skylight City must have way too much time on their hands.

She scrolled through the comments:

[What a shame, such a good-looking couple, and they divorced.]

[I once saw them together, they seemed so in love. How did they end up divorcing?]

[It's all Sophia's fault. If it weren't for that homewrecker, Mr. Smith wouldn't have divorced Ms. Brown.]

[If even someone as beautiful as Emily can get divorced, what kind of women do men actually like?]

As Emily continued scrolling, another headline popped up.

#James and Sophia Spotted Enjoying Romantic Dinner, Wedding Rumors Swirl.

Emily didn't feel much about the news; she was just curious about what others were saying. She clicked on the comments, and there were plenty:

[Mr. Smith is certainly busy—no sooner does he divorce his wife than he turns around to comfort his mistress.]

[Sophia has no shame, clinging to a man who just got divorced.]

[I don't get it. Sophia isn't as pretty or as good a person as Emily. Why did Mr. Smith choose her?]

[Don't you think Sophia and Mr. Smith actually look good together? They're both attractive.]

[A bad man with a shameless woman, they do match.]

After a while, Emily got bored and tossed her phone aside.

At the harbor, a black Rolls-Royce slowly came to a stop. James stepped out and walked briskly towards Charles. "Mr. Green is getting bolder, daring to mess with the Smith Group."

Charles chuckled. "Right back at you. If Mr. Smith hadn't messed with my goods first, I wouldn't have touched yours. I'm just following your lead. By the way," he paused, "I heard you divorced Ms. Johnson today?"

"What? Are you planning to go after Emily?" James's face darkened.

Charles laughed. "Go after Emily? Mr. Smith, what a joke. Do you think I have the guts to..."

The owner of GN Corporation? But Charles didn't finish his sentence. Even a fool could tell there was more to Charles's words, and James was no fool. He knew Charles was holding something back.

"What do you mean? What's going on with Emily?" James frowned deeply.

From what Charles implied, he dared to mess with James's goods but not Emily. Why? Did Charles see Emily as more formidable, more unapproachable than him? How could that be? Emily was just a socialite from the Johnson family. What was so unapproachable about a socialite?

"Nothing much." Charles's smile grew wider. "But I just want to confirm, you really divorced Ms. Johnson, right?"

James pressed his lips together, saying nothing.

Charles burst into laughter. "Judging by your reaction, the divorce is real. James, you're smart in business, but in your personal life, you're a fool. You actually fell for that tramp Sophia."

"Charles!" James shouted, "Sophia is my fiancée. I won't let you insult her!"

"Alright," Charles kept laughing, "I won't insult her. James, you're a big fool. There's no one more foolish than you."

"What are you trying to say?" James grabbed Charles by the collar.

Charles laughed, "I'm saying, you're an idiot!"
