Chapter 159: After the Storm
Watching the new project gradually take shape, Evelyn felt much more relaxed.
She could finally devote some of her energy to artistic creation and pick up the paintbrush that had been sitting idle for a while.
When she unrolled the canvas, her heart felt incredibly light. Inspiration kept flowing into her mind, making it impossible for her to stop.
When Arthur came home from the office that evening, he saw Evelyn painting with complete focus in her studio.
The four children were in the living room, each doing their own thing, all being thoughtful enough not to disturb her.
Arthur glanced toward the studio, then walked over to the children and played with them.
He knew that when she was creating, she needed plenty of time and space. It was best not to disturb her at such times and let her express herself freely.
Evelyn kept painting until late at night before finally emerging from the studio. All four children had already gone to bed, and Arthur was in his study handling work.
"Finished painting?"
Hearing movement outside, Arthur got up and came out, pulling her into his arms. "Seeing how focused you were, I bet you didn't eat anything again. Want me to cook something?"
Evelyn gently shook her head and nestled in his embrace, feeling content inside.
Although her body was a bit tired, her mood was very relaxed. Being able to express her feelings through painting made her whole being feel at ease.
"Do you want to see my painting?"
She asked softly. Arthur naturally had no reason to refuse.
He followed Evelyn into the studio and couldn't help but feel moved when he saw the delicate brushstrokes on the canvas.
Her painting style had shifted from calm to powerful, with themes centered on order and protection.
Evelyn had merged her rescue experience with maternal emotions to create a series called "After the Storm."
Just looking at it made him feel as if he was being embraced—solid and secure.
Arthur couldn't help but stare, then turned to Evelyn with a smile. "Evelyn, you always surprise me."
Evelyn's artistic ability was immeasurable and constantly improving. Each creation was a new challenge.
Arthur didn't want such artwork to be seen by him alone, so he set up an independent gallery in the foundation's office area and named this painting "Return."
This exhibition attracted many viewers and earned lots of praise.
"Sarah truly lives up to her reputation—she can feel so many rich emotions from one experience and express them so fully."
"And she even made it into a series, allowing people to feel the progression of emotions."
Evelyn continued as both foundation advisor and education project leader, and life returned to a steady rhythm.
Seeing that Mommy had finally relaxed, the four children were happy for her and eagerly rushed over.
"What's wrong? Why are you all clinging to me?"
Evelyn asked with amusement. Ella sat right in her lap, looking up at her. "Mommy, you don't know how busy you've been lately. We've had so much to tell you, but couldn't find the chance!"
"Mommy's sorry."
Evelyn immediately admitted her mistake. "But the project issues are all resolved, and the exhibition went smoothly. Mommy will have plenty of time to spend with you and make up for what we missed."
Hearing Evelyn's promise, the children all got excited and started jumping around.
"What about me?"
Arthur wasn't about to be left out and came over, kissing Evelyn on the cheek. "You're not going to just focus on the kids and ignore me, are you?"
"You're even jealous of the children."
Evelyn didn't know whether to laugh or cry at his behavior. She knew how much Arthur and the kids had missed her and wanted to spend quality time with them.
She also hoped to balance career and family, keeping both in harmony.
"Alright."
She readily agreed. "How about we all go to the amusement park tomorrow?"
The four children were naturally thrilled, and Arthur immediately went to arrange the schedule, making time to be with them.
The next day, they had a wonderful time as a family. Arthur specially rented out the entire amusement park so the kids could play freely, riding the roller coaster over and over again.
James and Julian were bolder and had a blast, while John was a bit scared and went with Ella to ride the teacups instead.
Arthur and Evelyn sat on a nearby bench, watching the children play tirelessly, their faces full of smiles.
"Really, was it necessary to rent out the whole amusement park? Isn't that a bit much?"
Evelyn couldn't help but tease him, looking at the empty park with a strange feeling.
"Why waste time standing in lines? Plus, this way the kids and we don't have to worry about others watching us—we can just enjoy ourselves."
Arthur said softly, his arm around her shoulder, having thought it all through clearly.
After all, they were public figures, not like other people who could go out so easily.
As their fame grew, more eyes would be on them. He didn't want his wife and children constantly exposed to public scrutiny, so he tried his best to create a good atmosphere where they could be more comfortable.
Hearing this explanation, Evelyn smiled. "Alright, I know you're thoughtful."
Arthur was always good at managing these details, making complete preparations without her or the children even noticing.
"Mommy!"
Just as they were chatting, Ella ran over, pulling John along, looking at her expectantly. "Come ride the carousel with me, please!"
How could Evelyn refuse her precious daughter's request? She happily took Ella's hand and rode the carousel with her.
Arthur stood nearby, watching them sitting on the dreamy, cute horses, and instinctively pulled out his phone to capture this beautiful moment.
He knew this was rare, but he hoped their family could often go out and play together, creating more memories worth cherishing.
Though it would be difficult to achieve, as Evelyn's husband and the children's father, he would definitely find ways to make it happen and never let them down.
Sitting on the carousel, Evelyn looked at Arthur taking photos of them, feeling warm inside, feeling that all her previous efforts hadn't been in vain.
They had indeed built a happy family, with the most adorable children, having crossed countless difficulties to reach each other's side.
Evelyn felt very content and couldn't imagine what an even better tomorrow would look like.
