Chapter 79: Gods arena

The room went still.

Lyra did not move. Neither did the man standing across from her. His presence filled the space, calm and controlled, like he already owned everything beneath the hospital.

Damien stepped forward slightly, placing himself between Lyra and the man. “Step back.”

The man smiled faintly. “Still protective. That has not changed.”

“You know us,” Maya said coldly.

“I know her,” he replied, eyes never leaving Lyra. “The rest of you are just obstacles.”

Jack raised his weapon. “You talk too much.”

The man lifted one hand.

The walls around them shimmered. A low vibration spread through the floor. The air felt heavier, pressing against their chests.

Rowan cursed under his breath. “Energy field.”

Kade shifted, his muscles tensing. “We are boxed in.”

Lyra took a slow breath. “You said we had much to discuss.”

The man tilted his head. “You are calm. That is good. Fear makes the process unstable.”

“What process,” she demanded.

“Evolution.”

His gaze swept over the group. “Humans are fragile. Supernaturals are limited by bloodline. We are creating something better. Stronger. More adaptable.”

“You are kidnapping people,” Damien snapped. “Torturing them.”

“Sacrifice is part of progress.”

Lyra felt anger rise, sharp and hot. “You are destroying lives.”

He stepped closer. “And saving countless more. With you, we can end weakness. End disease. End death caused by flawed design.”

“I am not your tool.”

His lips curved slightly. “You already are.”

Before anyone could react, the floor split open.

Metal restraints shot upward, wrapping around Damien, Maya, Jack, Rowan, and Kade. They struggled, but the restraints tightened instantly, pinning their arms and legs.

“Let them go,” Lyra shouted.

The man raised one finger, and the pressure increased.

“They will not be harmed,” he said calmly. “Not if you cooperate.”

Lyra’s chest tightened. “What do you want.”

“Come with me.”

“No.”

His eyes hardened. “Then they die.”

A sharp crack echoed as energy surged through the restraints. Damien gasped, his jaw clenched in pain.

“Stop,” Lyra cried.

The man lowered his hand. “Your choice.”

She stood frozen, torn between fear and rage.

Cole’s voice cut through the tension. “Lyra, do not.”

She turned. He was on his knees, restrained like the others, blood trickling from the corner of his mouth. His eyes met hers, steady despite the pain.

“He is lying,” Cole said. “If you go, he will never let you leave.”

The man sighed. “So dramatic.”

Lyra’s hands clenched into fists.

Something deep inside her stirred.

A warmth spread through her chest, then her arms, then her hands. The air around her began to hum.

The man’s expression shifted, interest flashing in his eyes. “There it is.”

The restraints tightened again. Maya cried out.

Lyra snapped.

Energy burst from her body, rippling outward in a powerful wave.

The restraints shattered.

The walls cracked.

Lights exploded overhead.

The man staggered back, surprise finally breaking through his calm.

“Interesting,” he murmured.

Damien moved instantly, grabbing Lyra and pulling her behind him.

Jack and Rowan lunged forward, attacking in unison. Kade followed, striking hard and fast.

The man raised his hands, forming a glowing shield that blocked their blows.

“You have grown stronger,” he said, studying Lyra over the shield. “Much faster than expected.”

“Leave us alone,” she shouted.

He shook his head. “You do not understand what you are.”

“Then explain.”

The shield faded. He straightened, hands lowering slowly. “You were created, Lyra.”

Her breath caught. “What.”

“Before you were born, your parents were part of our earliest trials,” he continued. “They believed in our vision. They volunteered.”

Damien stiffened. “That is impossible.”

“They wanted a child who could survive the transformation naturally,” the man said. “A living bridge between human and hybrid. That child is you.”

Lyra felt dizzy. “You are lying.”

“If I were lying, you would be dead,” he replied calmly. “Your body produces stabilizing energy. It corrects the genetic conflict. That is why you can release power without tearing yourself apart.”

Her heart hammered in her chest. Memories flashed through her mind. Strange dreams. Bursts of strength. Healing faster than she should.

“Why tell me this,” she whispered.

“Because you belong with us,” he said. “You were always meant to.”

“No,” Damien said firmly. “She belongs with us.”

The man glanced at him, then back at Lyra. “You can fight it. Or you can accept it.”

Maya stepped beside Lyra. “You do not get to decide her fate.”

The man studied them for a long moment, then smiled faintly. “This is not over.”

The floor trembled again.

Warning lights flashed red.

Rowan swore. “He is triggering the collapse.”

“Time to go,” Jack snapped.

The man stepped back toward the shadows. “We will meet again, Lyra. When you are ready.”

“Wait,” she called.

But he was already gone.

Alarms blared as the chamber began to shake.

“Move,” Kade shouted.

They ran.

Concrete cracked overhead. Dust filled the air. Pipes burst, flooding parts of the corridor.

They pushed through falling debris, hearts pounding, lungs burning.

The elevator shaft was already unstable.

“We cannot go back up,” Rowan said.

Jack pointed down a side corridor. “Emergency tunnels. This way.”

They sprinted through narrow passageways as the facility crumbled around them.

A final explosion rocked the ground, throwing them forward.

Then silence.

They emerged into daylight through a hidden exit behind the hospital. Smoke rose from the ground behind them.

Everyone collapsed onto the grass, gasping for breath.

For a long moment, no one spoke.

Finally, Damien turned to Lyra. “Are you okay.”

She nodded slowly. “I think so.”

Maya studied her carefully. “What he said. About your parents.”

“I do not know what to believe,” Lyra admitted. “But some of it makes sense.”

Cole pushed himself upright. “It does not change who you are.”

She looked at him, grateful. “I know.”

Rowan wiped blood from his arm. “This just became bigger than we thought.”

Kade nodded. “He will rebuild. And he will come back stronger.”

Lyra stared at the rising smoke, her mind racing.

“Then so will we,” she said quietly.

Damien placed a hand on her shoulder. “Whatever comes next, we face it together.”

She drew a steady breath, feeling the strange energy inside her settle, waiting.

The war had only just begun.
