Chapter 141: She Really Had No Other Choice
In the café, Olivia's best friend pointed at the hickey showing on her neck, grinning with a knowing smile.
"I can't believe after all these years of marriage, you and David are still so into each other. How hard did he have to kiss to leave a mark like that? You're making me, a single person, feel so left out. I can't take it, I'm dying here, I'm dying."
Her friend dramatically clutched her chest.
"What are you talking about?" Olivia tapped her friend's arm. "You haven't been to Silverlight City in years, and the first thing I do is take you out for coffee. Doesn't that show how much I care about you?"
"No matter how close we are, it can't compare to you and David. Besides..." her friend raised her coffee cup. "...when old friends meet after years apart, don't people usually go out for a meal? Who takes someone out for coffee like you do?"
Despite her words, the smile on her face never faded.
Olivia looked at her best friend helplessly. "Don't you know why I'm treating you to coffee? Isn't it because you already had a meal with some hot guy earlier and you're too full to eat again?"
"Look who's talking. You just got to Silverlight City and you're already flirting around, playing with whatever hot guy you want. What's there for you to envy about me?"
After chatting about old times for a while, Olivia pulled out her passport and placed it in front of her friend.
Her friend looked at her in surprise. "What's this? Why are you suddenly showing me your passport? You're not planning to marry me, are you? Even though getting a marriage license is pretty simple now—you just need two passports—but..."
"Our country doesn't allow bigamy. Even if you love me deeply, we can't be married in the eyes of the law. I'm going to have to break your heart."
Her friend laughed.
Olivia looked at her friend with a serious expression.
"Yvonne, I have something very important I need your help with."
Yvonne's expression grew serious too, but she didn't like the atmosphere and tried to lighten it with a joke. "I drink one cup of coffee and now you're putting me to work..."
"Even though I'd love to spit that coffee back out for you, since you've already asked, I can't really say no. So tell me, what do you need me to do?"
Olivia looked at Yvonne, not speaking for a long while.
She really didn't want to ask Yvonne to do this.
She'd been looking for other options.
But after considering everyone, she couldn't trust anyone else.
People she didn't know—she worried they wouldn't be able to pull it off.
People she did know—she worried they'd get dragged into trouble if things went wrong.
But...
She really had no other choice.
Yvonne had come to Silverlight City suddenly, without planning.
Running into her today was pure chance—she hadn't called to arrange it.
Having her do this shouldn't be too dangerous.
Plus, Yvonne came from a well-off family. Even if things went wrong and Charles wanted revenge, he'd have to think twice.
Seeing Olivia remain silent, Yvonne spoke up first.
"Just tell me what you need me to do. Don't be like this, okay? You're scaring me, you know?" Yvonne pretended to look frightened.
Olivia took two deep breaths and began. "Yvonne, I've offended someone recently. This person is really powerful, and I need to leave Silverlight City without him noticing."
"I can't use my passport. I need you to help me get a fake one that actually works."
Yvonne looked at Olivia in shock.
"You offended someone? Someone with your good temper actually offended someone? Who did you offend? Tell me, let me see if I can help fix it. If I can't, I'll ask my dad for help."
"I don't believe there's anyone in this world who's that untouchable."
"No."
Olivia gripped Yvonne's hand tightly and shook her head. "This person is different. You can't handle him."
"What about the police?" Yvonne asked. "The person you offended can't be some kind of criminal that even the police can't touch, right?"
Olivia bit her lip hard.
She had indeed offended someone who was above the law.
And recently—in fact, for the past few years—even if the police wanted to do something, they couldn't. The police weren't a gang; without solid evidence, they couldn't do anything.
"Yvonne, don't ask about the details. I just need you to help me with this one thing."
Yvonne frowned at Olivia.
"Who exactly did you offend... Fine, fine. If you don't want to say, I won't ask. But you're leaving alone? What about David? Isn't he leaving with you? Won't the person you offended go after David?"
"David already left, with his parents. My parents left temporarily, too. Right now, I'm the only one left in Silverlight City."
"What?" Yvonne's expression changed. "David actually left? How could he... And here I thought he was such a devoted man. Turns out... There really isn't a single good man in this world."
"No, you've got it wrong about David. I told him to leave first."
Olivia explained.
She gripped Yvonne's hand tightly. "Do you still remember the neighborhood where my parents lived and the exact location?"
After getting a positive answer, Olivia continued.
"I need you to rent an apartment in the building right in front of my parents' complex, in the same position. Put the new passport, along with a new phone and SIM card, inside a bunch of vegetables and put it in the fridge. Leave the key under the doormat. When the time is right, I'll go get it myself."
"Here's some money for you to use. If it's not enough, I'll give you more when I get the chance."
Olivia pulled out a stack of cash from her bag and pressed it into Yvonne's hand.
Yvonne immediately pushed it back. "Olivia, helping you is one thing, but bringing money into it makes things awkward. With our relationship, giving me money is insulting our friendship."
She stuffed the money back into Olivia's bag. "This money is more useful with you. Don't worry, I'll take care of everything you asked."
"Olivia, you're a good person and a smart person. I believe you'll get through this. When it's all over, call me and we'll have dinner together."
"Okay."
The two talked for a bit longer, but Olivia didn't dare delay and parted ways with Yvonne.
After leaving the café, Olivia browsed a few clothing stores, then went to the supermarket to buy some expensive liquor before calling Charles.
"What's the driver's phone number again? I forgot. I'm tired from shopping and my legs hurt. Can you send the driver to pick me up?"
