Chapter 149: Mate Madness
Vaelira POV
“Hey,” I said quickly, lifting my hands. “Shh. It’s fine. No worries.”
My siblings were already bristling, their energy crackling at the table. Calix looked offended on my behalf, Korrin looked entertained, and Arielle...Arielle leaned across the table, her eyes sharp on me, not him.
“This shit is overwhelming,” I added calmly, glancing back at the dragon. “It really is.”
He nodded once, relief flashing across his face like he hadn’t expected understanding. Then he turned and fled.
The silence that followed was thick.
I glared at Arielle. "You scared him."
Arielle pushed back from the table so hard her chair scraped loudly. She pointed at me, her tail flicking behind her in irritation.
“If he’s afraid,” she said firmly, her voice cutting clean through the room, “then you deserve better.”
She huffed, spun on her heel, her tail snapping once more for emphasis, and stormed off toward the exit.
I stared after her, stunned.
“…Wow,” I muttered.
Calix snorted. Elmyra pressed her lips together to hide a smile. Kaelith’s jaw tightened, unreadable.
I exhaled slowly, rubbing my temple. “Cool. Great first day already.”
I finished eating after that, my appetite dulled but manageable, watching as my siblings slowly trickled away to explore the academy. Maps came out. Excited chatter replaced tension.
Eventually, I stood and wandered on my own.
The gardens caught me completely off guard. Stone paths curved through glowing greenery, and flowering vines hummed softly with magic. Leaves brushed my fingers as I passed, like they recognized me. I found a stone bench beneath a flowering tree and sank down, letting out a long breath.
Peace. Finally. Then I heard it. A footstep. Careful. Controlled.
I moved without thinking.
Three seconds later, my knife was at his throat.
“Don’t,” I warned softly.
He froze. Then smirked.
“What the hell are you doing here?” I hissed, easing the blade back just enough not to draw blood. “I almost killed you.”
“You didn’t,” he said calmly. “I let you.”
I rolled my eyes. “What, you’re not afraid now? Mate?”
He flinched.
That was answer enough.
“I’m Aethren,” he said quietly. “Dragon.”
The air between us snapped tight, like a wire pulled too far.
Aethren didn’t move at first. Neither did I. We just stood there, close enough that I could feel the heat rolling off him, dragonfire restrained by sheer will. His gaze dropped to my mouth, and lingered there like he was asking permission even though his instincts were already screaming the answer.
Then he leaned in. The kiss wasn’t gentle.
It was hesitant for exactly half a heartbeat, just enough to register surprise, before it deepened into something urgent and real. His mouth was warm, and firm, tasting faintly of spice and something sweet, and when my lips parted without conscious thought, his breath hitched like I’d struck something vital.
My hands came up on instinct, my fingers curling into the front of his jacket, grounding myself in the solid truth of him. He made a low sound in his throat, barely contained, and one hand slid to my waist, not claiming, not taking, just holding me there like he was afraid I’d disappear if he didn’t.
Magic thrummed. Not explosive. Not wild. Balanced.
My scales warmed under my skin, my wings twitching faintly as his dragon brushed against mine, not roaring, not demanding, just… recognizing. The kiss slowed, softened, and turned deliberate, like we were both trying to memorize this moment before it changed us.
When we finally pulled back, our foreheads rested together, and our breaths were uneven, the world oddly quiet around us.
For a second, neither of us spoke.
His thumb brushed my side once, light as a question, then dropped away like he’d caught himself.
“Well,” I murmured, my voice steadier than my pulse, “that answers some things.”
He laughed quietly, a little breathless, his eyes still locked on mine. “Yeah,” he said. “It really does.”
I leaned back just enough to look at him properly, my heart still racing. Aureth Vale hadn’t wasted any time.
Neither had fate.

Arielle POV
I was still mad.
Not the simmering kind. The storming kind. The kind where your claws itch and your tail lashes and the world feels too slow to keep up with you. Vaelira’s calm voice echoed in my head and I loved her, gods I did, but right then I wanted to shake her and tell her to stop carrying everything so gently.
I turned a corner hard.
And ran straight into a wall of muscle and fur.
“Oof...”
I stumbled back, boots scraping, and looked up...up.....and up some more.
He was a Siberian tiger male. Massive. Bigger than any I’d seen outside of Father Greyson, his shoulders broad enough to blot out the corridor lights, white-blond hair, ice-blue eyes burning with sharp intelligence and challenge. Power rolled off him in waves, cold and predatory and delicious.
We locked eyes.
Something in my chest purred before I could stop it.
He tilted his head, his nostrils flaring as he scented the air. I did the same. We circled without speaking, slow and deliberate, tails twitching, and instincts stripping away all the polite nonsense.
I smiled. “You’re mine, tiger.”
He scoffed, his lips curling just enough to show teeth. “Only if you’re a worthy female.”
I laughed.
Then I launched at him.
The impact rattled the hall. We went down hard, claws scraping stone, bodies colliding in a furious tangle of strength and speed. He was fast. Gods, he was fast. We rolled, grappled, growled, and tested. He tried to pin me. Failed. I twisted, used his momentum, and flipped him with a snarl.
A heartbeat later, I had him pinned.
Knees on his shoulders. Hands locked around his wrists. Tail flicking smugly behind me.
I leaned down, grinning ferally. “Worthy enough, mate?”
His answer wasn’t words. He purred. Deep, and satisfied.
We were on our feet a second later, our faces rubbing together shamelessly, scent marking like the world might forget us if we didn’t make it undeniable. Forehead to cheek. Jaw to neck. Mine. Mine. Mine.
Then, as if nothing at all had happened, he took my hand.
We walked down the hall like civilized beings. I was buzzing. Alive. Happy in a way that made my bones hum. Finally. A worthy male. One I could fight and push and bite and trust not to break.
I growled softly. He growled back. We hurried.
My siblings stared as I dragged him toward my room.
Vaelira snorted. “Of course.”
I huffed, my chin held high. “He is a worthy mate. He is mine.”
Her glare snapped to him, sharp as a blade. “Hurt her and die, tiger.”
He nodded without hesitation. “Understood.”
The door slammed shut behind us, the sound echoing like a challenge in the quiet of my room. He released my hand only long enough to shrug off his jacket, his ice-blue eyes never leaving mine. Power thrummed between us, thick and electric, the air heavy with the scent of fur and arousal.
I circled him slowly, my tail lashing, and my claws flexing at my sides. He mirrored the movement, his massive frame coiled with predatory grace, white-blond hair falling across his forehead.
“Vorak,” he said at last, his voice a low rumble that vibrated through my chest. “And you are Arielle. And Mine.”
I snarled softly, lunging forward to shove him against the wall. Our mouths crashed together, teeth clashing, and tongues battling for dominance. He growled into the kiss, his hands fisting in my hair, yanking my head back to expose my throat. I raked my claws down his shirt, shredding fabric, and buttons scattered across the floor.
He spun us, slamming my back against the door, his body pinning mine. Clothes tore away in frantic pulls, my top ripped open, his trousers shoved down. Skin met skin, hot and demanding, our muscles shifting under fur-marked patterns unique to our kind.
I pushed him again, testing, my claws digging into his shoulders as I tried to flip him. He resisted, his iron strength holding, then countered with a swift move that sent us tumbling onto the bed in a tangle of limbs and growls.
We wrestled fiercely, rolling, and grappling, each seeking the upper hand. I bit his shoulder, hard enough to draw blood; he roared approval, flipping me beneath him, his thighs forcing mine apart. I bucked wildly, snarling defiance.
“Submit,” he demanded, his voice rough with need, and one massive hand wrapping around my throat, not squeezing, just holding, claiming.
I laughed breathlessly, sassy even now. “Make me.”
His eyes flashed. The hand at my throat tightened slightly, his thumb pressing against my pulse. With his other hand, he flipped me onto my stomach, hauling my hips up. A sharp, stinging spank landed on my ass, once, twice, hard enough to make me gasp, heat blooming across my skin.
“Still sassing me, female?” he growled, manhandling me effortlessly, positioning me on all fours.
I pushed back against him, defiant. “You’ll have to do better than..”
Another spank silenced me, sharper this time, followed by his fingers sliding between my thighs, finding me slick and ready. He teased mercilessly, circling, and pressing, until I was trembling, and growling low in frustration.
Only then did he mount me fully, and his thick, hard length pressed into me in one powerful thrust. I cried out, my claws shredding the sheets as he filled me completely, stretching, and claiming
He fucked me with raw, dominant force, his hips snapping hard, and his hand still at my throat, pulling me back against his chest. Every thrust drove deeper, punishing and perfect, his free hand gripping my hip hard enough to bruise.
“Mine,” he snarled against my ear, his pace relentless.
“Submit to me, Arielle.”
The fight drained out of me in a rush of pleasure and surrender. I arched, pressing back into him, baring my neck fully. “Yours,” I gasped. “Take me, Vorak. Claim me.”
He roared triumph, but he was not finished proving his dominance. In a blur of motion, he withdrew and flipped me onto my back, pinning my wrists above my head with one massive hand. His ice-blue eyes blazed down at me, feral and victorious, as he surged back inside in one powerful thrust that stole my breath.
Now face-to-face, he claimed me completely, with deep, grinding strokes that hit every sensitive place, his body caging mine, forcing me to meet his gaze as pleasure rebuilt to an unbearable peak.
We came together, violent, and shattering. I screamed his name as ecstasy tore through me; and he buried himself deep, pulsing hot inside me. In the same instant, we struck, our fangs sinking into each other’s necks, biting down hard, sealing the bond in blood and power.
Magic exploded between us, icy blue and fiery gold light swirling through the room, binding soul to soul, strength amplifying in a rush that left us both shaking.
He collapsed over me, careful even in exhaustion, licking the bite closed with tender strokes. I turned in his arms, nuzzling his jaw, purring deeply.
Vorak pressed his forehead to mine, his breath ragged. “Worthy,” he murmured. “My perfect mate.”
I smiled against his skin, my claws tracing lazy patterns across his back.
Finally, I was claimed, and I had claimed him in return.

Vaelira POV
I was still pacing when the sounds started. The wall thumped. Then cracked.
Then something very solid hit something very expensive. I froze, listened, then groaned. “She didn’t even try to be subtle.”
The tiger roared. Arielle snarled back. Furniture protested. The floor shook.
I buried my face in my pillow, torn between rage and laughter. She didn’t even bring him to her room politely. Then it hit me how happy she sounded. Wild. Right. Claimed.
I laughed softly as exhaustion finally pulled me under.
“Me next,” I murmured, and fell asleep smiling.
