Chapter 176
AMELIA
As soon as the door unlocked, the hair stood in all parts of my body. My heart pumped so hard as I stood at the horror before me.
There were different species inside the symmetrical giant lab tubes similar to an aquarium. They were preserved, for what purpose, I had no clue.
“This is sick.”
“Amelia, look.” Ryden held my elbow and pointed at the huge rectangular glass framed with angel wings.
“Oh, my Goddess.” I wrapped myself as I shivered in terror. I couldn’t fathom who could do this, cutting off wings for decoration, and whoever owned the wings must have suffered an extremely excruciating pain.
They were beautiful, so huge spreading the entire wall, the color of ash reminded me of a cloudy dark sky before the storm.
“What should we do with that?”
“I don’t know, Ryden.” I sat on the concrete step when I felt like I lost all my strength. “I could be next in one of these glasses.”
“Hey.” He kneeled before me, holding my cold shaky hands. “I won’t let that happen, Amelia.”
I met his gaze. “Hawk, start shutting the cloaking device and server room. Guys, make sure no one is left behind and everyone is out before we burn this entire place to the ground. Are you sure there’s no fail-safe?”
“Don’t destroy this. Some books and archives could be used for the new SEO. This is Enoch’s legacy. Please, consider this, Amelia?” Hawk came begging for me.
“How do you expect to stop this abomination?”
“The server room can stop communicating with everyone. We will take out the cloaking device. I supposed you know a powerful witch. We will leave this tower, and it will be useless without the device.”
“Good. Start moving.” I stood up. While I was shaking with fury, Lucius and Ryden were smiling at me. “What’s funny?”
They both shrugged at me.
I rolled my eyes. “Will you please, alphas, move your asses and help them work?”
Ryden and Lucius followed Hawk.
“Are you okay?” Drake asked.
“I need a moment, please?”
“Of course.” When I couldn’t hear his footsteps anymore. I stared at the wings and closed my eyes. I prayed for my father. I knew he didn’t own the wings. His had the whitest I’d ever seen. “Father, if you can hear me. Guide me and tell me what to do with this.”
When I opened my eyes, I heard Ren talking with Nora and Theia.
“What did you find?”
“Seven staff and two agents were hiding in the locker. They’re clear. I told them to go outside and save themselves,” Nora replied.
I turned around and smiled. “Thanks, guys.”
“Are those real?” Theia asked. “Poor thing.”
“Yeah.”
“Amelia, help!” I heard Ryden call.
I stormed inside the server room and found them lying on the floor.
“What the hell happened?” I reached out for Ryden, helping him get up.
The guys helped themselves to their feet.
“It’s protected with something,” Hawk explained. “No one could touch it, even the fire wolf.” He looked at Ryden.
“When I tried to burn it, its shield backfired, throwing us away.”
“A fail-safe? I’ll try.”
“No!” Lucius and Ryden said in unison.
“If you have any idea how to take it down, now is the time to share it with the class?” I glared at both of them. “Nothing?”
“That’s not only a cloaking device but a jump teleportation device,” Lucius said.
“How do you know about it?” I asked him. When Hawk nodded, I looked at them both. “Is there something I’m missing here?”
Hawk raised his hand. “He’s my alpha. I’ve been inside the SEO under his order. I’m his inside man.”
“You mean, you’re the mole. Wow.” I glared at Lucius. “Are you even planning on telling us about this?”
“I told you I have a man inside the SEO. I’m just protecting him.”
“Unbelievable.” I rolled my eyes and stared at the jump whatever drive it was. It looked like just a small ordinary machine with cords connected to the metal that protected what was inside. It looked like a ball of energy the shape of a sphere. I studied the attachment from the bottom.
“Fuck it!” I grabbed the device and pulled it up.
“Amelia!” they screamed in unison.
The machine was heavy but I wasn’t zapped like them. With all my strength left, I pulled out of the attachment and lifted it. It finally came out from the base.
“What’s next, guys? Hurry up!” I barely finished my words, the whole tower shook, like the earthquake yesterday.
“Shit! Not again!” Theia shouted at me. “Do something!”
“We’re moving! That thing is sensitive. Don’t shake it,” Hawk was yelling while trying to hold on to something.
“Think, Amelia.” Ryden stared at me.
“I don’t know!” I yelled back at him. “If I put it down will it explode?”
“Possibly,” Hawk replied. “Take us somewhere safe!”
“Where is safe exactly right now!” I stormed outside towards the hallway, carrying the device. As soon as it was lifted, it barely weighed six pounds. I reached the chamber and looked up. It was dark already or maybe we shifted far.
“What the fuck are you doing, sweetheart?” Lucius asked angrily.
“I don’t know.” I breathed deeply and kneeled so I could have all the power to jump up to the hole.
“Amelia!” That was the last thing I heard of them calling my name before I reached up the top. With my heart racing wild in my chest, I thought of Margaret.
She yelped, backing up in front of the table as she saw me standing before her. Her eyes were wide as she found what I had in my hands. “What the hell, Amelia?”
“This is a cloaking and jump device thingy. I don’t have time to explain, but protect it or cloak it.” I breathed deeply. “Just cover it with something. I have to go back. Shit. I forget where I was.”
“You’re crazier, kid.” She shook her head in amusement and the look on her face said that I was insane, it made me smile.
I managed to get back to the tower. I landed down slowly through the hole and they were just staring at me like I just grew another head.
“It’s safe, but we’re not in the desert anymore. I saw trees and lights, and it smells wet.”
“How?” Hawk was pointing at me in shock. “How did you do that?”
“Do what?”
He shook his head and said, “Never mind. Everything around is crazy or I’m just going crazy.”
“Breathe.” I walked close to him.
“No no. Don’t touch me.” He turned to Lucius. “I thought you were joking when you said she’s half angel.”
“I don’t kid around,” Lucius said briefly.
“Wait. You saw my wings?”
“No, ladybug. You didn’t have wings, but you just jumped off a twenty-five meters rooftop.”
“Oh.”
“So where are we?” Nora asked.
“Maybe the last place the director went to.” I walked outside the chamber and found Guston and the rest of the guys.
“What the hell was that?” Dane asked.
“I think we’re in Hawaii.”
“Great. Kain would be so thrilled to bring the fight into his territory.”
“Oh, your werecat uncle? That’s even better.”
“You know Kain?” I asked Lucius. “Of course you do.”
“Yeah. Obsidian Society. I had a few run-ins with them, but we’re cool.”
“I bet he’s thrilled to see you,” Ryden said. “Let’s get out of here. Dane, you may wanna give a heads up to your uncle before he shoots us from the distance.”
We made it out alive from the tower, but there was a slight problem. It landed between mountains, in the middle of the boscage.
“You couldn’t have chosen a better place to land, Amelia.” Ren chuckled.
“It wasn’t me. It’s the device.”
“Where did you take it to?” Drake asked.
“We better not know where it was, for our own safety,” Lucius told him.
“No cell service down here. Maybe you can give us a lift?” Theia said after checking her phone.
“I don’t know. Maybe we end up in the crater instead.”
“I’m up for an adventure,” Fawn said. “Where are we going?”
“My uncle and his pack live on the other island,” Dane said.
I instantly heard the same rolling as it happened in Tahoe, but this time, it was stronger.
