Chapter 206

THIRD PERSON POV

Varkas and Ryker clashed again. They had been at it for hours. By now, everyone expected them to be tired. But it appeared as though Ryker’s energy kept getting higher per minute. He wasn’t giving Varkas a single break. There were several openings for him to end the fight with Varkas, but it appeared as though he was out to ensure Varkas felt the maximum pain possible.

Ryker was furious. Furious that Varkas took Lyra. For days, he had kept his child and mate away from him. And for that, he was angry beyond control.

Varkas rolled back slightly and watched as Ryker approached him predatorily to unleash another set of blows. For so many years he had lived on earth, Varkas had never seen a werewolf with such anger and such an aura. It shook him. So in his fit of desperation, he reached into his core and summoned out his black magic to create a portal.

Ryker saw what Varkas was doing and sneered. “I will never let you off,” he growled menacingly and stepped into the cloud of dark magic Varkas created. Ripple of gasps cut through the crowd. People started whispering. Alphas, nobles, werewolves, and wizards alike.

“Ryker!!!” Lyra screamed and tried to run after him as he disappeared into the dark smoke, but Dimitri held her back. His eyes never left the dark, stormy clouds created by the use of black magic.

“The Alpha King went into the dark smoke. It’s unbelievable. Nobody ever went into the dark smoke.” Someone exclaimed. And it was true. No one ever went into the dark smoke and survived.

“Ryker!!!!” Lyra screamed again. Tears were streaming down her face. “Father, please help him. He’s going to die,” She cried out, her shoulders shaking in the process. “No, please come back,” Bu Ryker had entered into the dark smoke. Nobody could see anything. Not even Dimitri.

“I can’t stop him, Lyra. It’s between two men who clearly have scores to settle.” Dimitri responded.

“Then do something. Use your powers for anything. Protect him, please. Varkas is not who we think he is.”

“And so is your mate. Look,” Dimitri pointed towards the dark smoke. It was moving like a solid form. It took the shape of a body and was making rapid movements that didn’t seem real. Slowly, the smoke began to tear off as though it was peeled off like paint from a wall by someone. Ryker and Varkas could be seen. Everyone gasped at the sight before them.

“No one has ever entered into a smoke, much less tear it down as though pulling down walls,” Someone spoke in awe.

“How did he tear down the walls of Dronan?” One of the wizards fell to the ground as he looked at the sight before him.

“It’s impossible,” Another wizard spoke. Surprised and fearful at the same time. Dronan was an ancient dark magic power that was used by powerful warlocks of old in battles, but no one could wield the power except for a thousand wizards.

“How does Beta Varkas have the power to wield Dronan? He shouldn’t have that kind of power.” Another werewolf commented.

“He wouldn’t have the power,” Dimitri finally spoke as he thought the same too. “—unless he took the blood of a thousand wizards and performed the ritual that vested him with these powers,”

Slowly, the Dorian wall fell, and Ryker and Varkas were on the ground panting. Their bodies were battered with blood and injuries. The fight was over. But everyone held their breath as they waited for who would stand up first.

Varkas' eyes swept across the crowd and saw the armies waiting. He slowly called up a portal beside him with a flick of his finger because he knew it would be over for him if he was caught. He then tried to drag his battered body into it. But Ryker saw him escaping.

“I told you. You are not leaving. Not yet,” He growled. And with a burst of strength, he pushed himself and dragged Ryker, who had just placed both hands into the portal, as he was too tired to stand, so he had opted to crawl inside it. Unfortunately for him, Ryker grabbed his legs, but Varkas grabbed a railing in the other world the portal created and refused to let go. But his powers were getting weak, and soon the portal threatened to close up.

Varkas became desperate, but Ryker wouldn’t let go of his legs. Suddenly, the portal closed up, and with it came a deafening scream that shook the entire pack to the ground.

It was a scream of pain and anguish as the portal closed up, severing off Varkas’ hands in the process. The impact of the portal closing with a werewolf's blood created a ripple wave that threw both Varkas and Ryker off the ground into the air, and as soon as the energy got sucked with the rest of the portal, both men fell to the ground with a loud thud.

Both Ryker and Varkas transformed to their human side, and Varkas died on the spot.

“All Hail the Supreme King,” Everyone shouted

“All Hail!”

“All Hail!”

Ryker’s legs wobbled as he struggled to open his eyes while he looked at the crowd. He was looking for her.

For Lyra.

Their eyes met.

Lyra’s breath stopped when she finally met Ryker’s gaze. The world seemed to stop in that moment. Then, as though struck by lightning, she rushed towards him with tears brimming in her eyes.

As soon as Lyra got to Ryker, he slumped in her arms.

“Help me!!!!” She shouted, releasing a piercing scream into the air.
