Chapter 124: Beyond the outskirts
Damon
Everyone was finally on the same page. At least everyone here that had to be as Peter was still upstairs sleeping. I enjoyed the fact that we all understood this whole situation wholeheartedly and I was finally able to open up to my brothers on what I had found out. By the looks of things, we most definitely would be getting back at Luke together.
I had to explain the whole findings to them but I had already seen the design of that machine and I believed that was something Garrett the genius would be able to understand. I was right. The moment he took a look at it, his eyes widened with so much shock. He recognised it or at the very least, what it was supposed to do and I knew we were not safe before he told us that it was all about destruction.
"Wait, what do you mean by that?" Harold demanded. This was the first time I have seen him panic this way.
"From what I can tell about this, it is supposed to create something that would fish us all out and make us go rabid and even kill ourselves. This is like the preparation for a poisonous gas upfront. We need to find this machine and destroy it." Garrett said.
"What? How could they be so evil?" Jacob muttered.
"Because it's in their DNA. We need to actually act on time before they come at us. Tell us, what do we do, then?" Garrett asked.
Bro, you said we should go destroy this machine right now or were you asking for permission?
"Well, if I must say, it is clear that we have to find the place." Harold said.
"Already did. It's in this paper. The coordinates were already interpreted but it would be a really long distance. It's past the outskirts and further deep." I said as I waved the piece of paperwork.
"Then we have no time to lose. Let's go right now and destroy this place." Jacob responded.
"Not everyone can go, unfortunately. We have Jace here and a not so stable Peter." Harold said.
"Fine, we three would go then, you can stay back." I responded.
"No. I don't want to trust that you all would keep away from acting all childish. I mean, you have been really good at making me really pissed recently especially with how you act out in reckless abandon." Harold stated.
"Well, I have some for you then, Harold. We do not trust you with Jace anymore than you trust us together. I really think that this is your opportunity to trust us to do the right thing and yours to prove to us that you would not betray Jace. Maybe you can bond with him finally and tell him those great stories about us." Jacob said.
Alright, this is definitely why he is the sensible brother. He had a mature way of handling these issues because I was actually going to stupidly ask that Jace come with us. Good thing I managed to keep my mouth shut though.
"Well, Harold, maybe you can also tell him of our childhood. Only please, don't make me out to be the black sheep of the flock. I still want him to want me when I return." I teased, jokingly.
Harold smiled now. Clearly, he was onboard and we were worrying unnecessarily.
"Don't worry, I'll take my time to tell him about all your escapades. By the time you return, he's going to want to reject you all for mischief." Harold said, smiling.
"I don't want to go then. I'm a saint and I have always been." I returned to joking.
"If he tells him about us, I can bet only Jacob would get Jace. The rest of us are doomed then. Harold, how about this, you don't tell him and I'll do dishes for one week?" Garrett asked jovially.
"I'll consider it." Harold responded. "Now, be careful out there. It's not safe for you all now and I believe that this would lead you to coming in the night. Please, be rational too and not fight amongst each other. I'm speaking to Damon and Garrett directly."
"Alright daddy. We've heard. Now we need to leave." I said.
It was time and we all went upstairs as we got ourselves ready and changed. By the time we met downstairs already, Harold already had Jace out and downstairs. The latter beamed at us and I swear, I could have melted.
"Group hug?" Jacob asked suddenly.
Brother, you know what's on my mind. I smiled as Jace came over to us and embraced us. This did not feel bad at all. At least not until Harold came and joined us. I wanted to chase him away but held all my feelings inside of me.
Now, we were all set and ready to get going. I noticed how Harold tried to hide his tears away and I wondered if anyone else had. We said our goodbyes and promised that we would definitely have each other's back as we were leaving. I could not wait to finish all this and come back to speak with Jace. There was so much that I wanted to tell him now and maybe, I would take it easy on Peter. He might have attacked him but he definitely has brought us all together.
We arrived at the garage and now it was time to pick the car we would be going with. Everyone had their own opinion but Jacob said we all would be using one less flashy car.
"Listen, we're going towards the outskirts and if I am right, a flashy car would only risk being noticed. We do not want to accrue ourselves suspicious looks and a convoy too, that would definitely make us all look really suspicious. I saw we take the less flashy car here and go." Jacob said.
"But I don't think there are any cars of such and I heard you destroyed the one you came with the other day. So, how do we go about it?" I asked him.
Jacob smiled and started walking to the inner compartment of his side of the garage. We all had one and by far, mine had automobile parts. He pressed open and there were two old cars there.
"Wow. Those are ancient if not vintage. But when did you acquire them?" Garrett asked the one question on my mind.
"Just as a part of one of my cars. I hear this one has really good horsepower and I was hoping to make an upgrade. But we would have to take them. First, we need to use fake plate numbers." Jacob said.
"Well, if you don't ever want them again, bro, I'll definitely be willing to take them off your hands." I offered.
"That's so nice of you, brother but I guess I'll pass on your offer. Cars are mine. Now, get to work." He said with a smile on his face.
We started off by changing the plate numbers and then fueling it. Garrett did a little bit of servicing to make certain that it was still safe to drive and by the time we pulled it out of the garage, I already knew that anyone would think it was old.
We were also dressed simply and ready to get going. So, we pulled away from the garage and started off the house. Harold must already be speaking with Jace that he did not bother coming down to bid us goodbye.
Jacob had decided that he would start off driving while we two started at the back and tried to keep ourselves out of the sights. We definitely did not want anyone noticing us one bit as they would wonder why three grown men of the same face were in a worn out car.
"Did anyone notice Harold crying when we left?" Jacob suddenly asked.
Wait, I thought I was the only one who noticed.
"The old man keeps trying to act all strong and so into the law that I wonder if he thinks we do not notice how he's more like a father to us than our guardian." Garrett said.
Alright, this was interesting.
"I think that he's more loyal to us than he is to the pack. He speaks of pack loyalty like a reminder of necessity for himself." Jacob said.
"I guess we should protect him too. I do wonder about him though. Why he found no mate." Garrett said.
I have been wondering about that myself. I mean, his actions were beginning to make me almost suspect that there was some degree of forbidden romance that he was definitely hiding from us.
"Damon, I forgot to say this but I'm not really proud of you and all of this. You found us a way out of our problems and I really appreciate it. Hopefully, this would help put a stop to our bounty hunters' problems and we may return to our usual lives." Jacob said to me.
"Yeah. We definitely owe all of this to Damon for taking all the risk and doing the homework. I mean, it definitely was not easy but I appreciate this " Garrett said.
"Well, I don't know but I guess I'll say thanks dads. Y'all deserve to be safe and a risk for family is no risk at all. Jacob, do I get to drive this rickety thing at all?" I asked him.
"Alright, banking on the praises I guess. That's fine. Maybe on our way back." Jacob said.
"What about you, Garrett?" I asked him.
He reclined on the seat, a smile on his face.
"I'm a passenger princess today. My only job would be to figure out the machine." He said.
"Then start now." I responded and I gave him the little journal.
Garrett started going through the journal while I decided that I was going to speak with Jacob. I wanted to know what he thought about the bank account I had pulled from the matron as I had strong reasons to believe that we could also find other humans that we might consider pretty much dangerous through that means and end them all once and for all.
Jacob thought about it that way too and said it would be great if we could get them all together in a single place and then blow them up.
"I mean, we could make it seem like a suicide bomber stuff. Then we never have to look over our shoulders again." I said.
"Oh but we do. We have the other supernaturals to worry about. For instance, vampires. No offense to your vampire friend but for the longest time, those creatures have been our nemesis and I see no reasons to think otherwise right about now." Jacob said.
"Makes a lot of sense to me in a way. But don't you think that we four are here to unite everyone?" I asked him.
"I definitely would not be risking my neck in doing so. There are witches and more to worry about but I believe we could create an understanding with the new Alpha." Jacob said.
I smiled. His humbleness was really something that I have always envied. He just had this perfection about him that I wished to possess.
"There's a self-destruct button." Garrett suddenly said out loud and I looked at him.
He started explaining that we did not have to risk getting hurt while trying to burn the place down. There was a self destruct option and all we needed to do was press it in the machine. That seemed like a fair plan as I was not hoping to die there.
Now, it was all about driving to our location which was a really long drive. By the time we started passing the outskirts, I was already feeling sleepy and relaxed on my back.
"Wake up, Damon. We're here." Garrett was the one who woke me when we arrived.
There was a huge rock and no factory.
"Where?" I asked.
Suddenly, I saw Jacob returning to us.
"It's over there beyond the rock. Clever bastards made certain to be discreet." He said to us,
