Chapter 251
Chapter 251
Night fell quickly.
Annie and I took the train back to Emerald City.
Liam had arrived ahead of us and was waiting at the station in his car.
Seeing us get off together, a flash of surprise crossed Liam's eyes.
I explained, "Annie wanted to come with us."
Liam didn't say much, just nodded in agreement. He said, "It's about time. Let's head over directly."
"I've arranged for bodyguards. They'll follow us discreetly, ready to help if anything goes wrong."
As he spoke, he put a tiny earpiece in my ear.
Seeing how serious Liam looked, I knew he was nervous. I half-joked, "Is all this really necessary?"
While adjusting it for me, Liam said, "If these things can keep you safe, then yes, it's necessary. Sophia, I can't watch you get hurt again."
He was so serious that I couldn't say anything more.
Soon we were all equipped. After making sure everything was fine, we arrived at the lighthouse.
The lighthouse was even more rundown than I remembered.
Twenty years of wind and rain had turned the white lighthouse dark brown, with much of the paint peeling off.
Still, it stood alone by the sea.
In the darkness, it looked somewhat eerie and sinister.
"Do you remember how to get in?" I asked Liam.
Liam took a breath. He subtly touched his lower back, where he had the tools he'd prepared earlier.
"I know. Follow me." Liam responded and led us around to the back of the building, where there was a narrow door.
Liam pointed at it and said to me, "I'll go in first."
I grabbed his hand. "No, I go first, I'm the one they want. When they see me, they won't attack right away, but if they see you, that might not be the case."
Liam's face was full of reluctance. He wanted to argue, but I raised my voice slightly, "Don't forget what you promised me!"
"We agreed on three rules. What was the first one?"
Liam's eyes darkened. After a moment of silence, he said reluctantly, "Follow your lead."
"Good, then get behind me now." I said firmly.
Reluctantly, Liam agreed.
I walked to the front, Annie behind me, Liam bringing up the rear.
I opened the door, and my memory became clearer.
Following my buried memories, I opened the hidden door beneath the lighthouse.
The hidden door seemed like it hadn't been opened in ages, making a creaking, muffled sound.
The passage was narrow, with spiral stairs winding downward, leading who knows where.
We pressed against the wall and kept going down. After three to five minutes, a sharp, bloody smell filled the air.
Soon, we reached the bottom.
At the end of the corridor was a huge underground laboratory. Below were many cultivation chambers arranged in rows, with shadowy figures floating up and down inside them.
Seeing this scene, I couldn't help but gasp.
There were also many staff members in white coats walking around, and at the central console stood a woman.
It was actually Scarlett!
My eyes widened suddenly, and I instinctively looked at Liam.
Wasn't Scarlett arrested and put in prison?
When did she get out?
Liam's eyes were also full of shock. He quickly shook his head at me, indicating he didn't know either.
I clenched my fists and didn't pursue it further, just quietly observed Scarlett.
She looked much more haggard than the last time I'd seen her, and her eyes were more fanatical and crazed.
I watched her staring at the big screen, muttering something. Because of the distance, I couldn't hear clearly. Anyway, she looked completely insane, which was quite frightening.
I discreetly adjusted the hidden camera to make sure it could record everything.
Then I shouted and kicked open the laboratory door, walking in.
The sudden noise startled everyone in the lab. They instinctively looked at me.
Seeing me, Scarlett didn't look surprised. Instead, her eyes flashed with wild joy. She shouted, "You came!"
"I waited for you. Looks like Albert was useful after all!"
"Mom," Liam called out in a low voice, following me inside.
When Scarlett saw Liam, her expression clearly changed. She wanted to step forward but was stopped by him.
"Don't come closer!" Liam said coldly.
Seeing Liam's expression, Scarlett couldn't help but show a hurtful look, her face twisting as she said, "Liam, you're here! Do you know how much I've suffered during this time? If I hadn't contacted my old partners, I probably would never have gotten out!"
Liam pressed his lips together, saying nothing, just looking at Scarlett with complicated emotions in his eyes.
At his silence, Scarlett continued, "Liam, I did all this for you!"
"Your illness has never been cured. You can only temporarily relieve it with medication. But now, I've found a way to cure you completely!" She raised her voice excitedly, then pointed at me and said, "As long as we extract her bone marrow, you can completely..."
"Mom!" Liam suddenly raised his voice, interrupting Scarlett. "Sophia is the woman I love. I won't allow anyone to hurt her, including you."
His expression was firm, his tone filled with unquestionable determination.
Hearing Liam say this, Scarlett froze for a moment.
Her already crazed face became even more twisted. "Liam, have you lost your mind!"
She shrieked, "Do you know who I'm doing all this for? It's for you!"
"The only reason I agreed to let you marry Sophia back then was because I knew you didn't like her. I just wanted to use the Davis family's power to strengthen the Smith family."
"If I'd known you'd fall this deep, I never would have agreed."
Liam remained unmoved, still keeping a stern face.
Seeing him like this, Scarlett went completely crazy. "You are actually treating me like this because of her?"
"I raised you for thirty years. I treated your illness, paved the way for you, even found Sophia for you, and this is how you repay me?"
"Found me?" I caught the key word and asked with narrowed eyes.
Scarlett turned to me and said coldly, "Do you think your blood type being so special is entirely natural?"
"No! It's also thanks to my modifications. Although your original blood type was also very rare, without my modifications, even if it was rare, it wouldn't be this precious. Speaking of which, you should thank me!"
After saying this, not only did she feel no shame, she even laughed proudly.
"Crazy!" I couldn't help but curse. "You're not doing this for Liam at all. You're doing it completely for yourself!"
