“Please spare me.” He knelt, his head on the floor.

I turned to the girl. She was nervous. “You said you knew my mother?” She asked and I closed my eyes.

“I never said I knew her. Well, you could say I knew her since my wife does.” I nodded.

That makes sense. Selena knew her then I knew her too. I smiled.

But she only looked at me weirdly. “Was she the one mother gave her life for? The news said mama gave her life saving a cellmate. They said she was wrong, that the person she saved was a murderer, so she won't be allowed peaceful rest.” She started crying.

“She has rested peacefully,” I assured. Before coming in, I had sent some of my men to take care of her burial rites. Though she was buried among prisoners, hers will be well taken care of.

“Really?” She asked, her eyes lit up. “Do you really mean Mama was buried? Everyone said that prisoners' bodies were dumped after death, and for someone like her. who helped a murderer till the end

, that her body  would be subjected to ridicule till..till she decays.”She laid everything out.

“If he says it was, just believe.”  The husband said from the floor.

The husband kissed his lips, but the girl smiled. “Thank you, sir.” She knelt on the floor and bowed her head. “Thank you for putting my mama to rest.” She bowed again.

“No, I should be thanking  you.” I bowed my head and I could hear gasping. “My wife isn't a murderer, I will prove that soon, so just wait a little. I will also  clear your mother of any charges against her.” I looked at the girl, and her eyes widened.

“Can you do that?” She asked, excitement all over her face.

“Of course he can. He is the great Theodore Mateo. He has the power to release everyone in the prison.” The husband murmured from the floor, he eyed the girl as if she were ridiculous.

“But what of the lady that mama saved? Mama has always been nice, but she never helped  bad people.” She said confidently..

“Of course, my Selena isn't a bad person. Just that she is sleeping.” I took out the card I had collected from Ethan earlier in the car.

“I’m inviting you to see her when you are free. The doctor said it will make her happy. “ I stretched the card to her and she took it, her face curious.

“Doctor? What type of sleep is that?” She asked and I wished I could tell.

“I have no idea either.  I can only hope for Selena to wake up soon.” My voice lowered.

What was I  even doing here when I should be with Selena? What if she wakes up and starts looking for me?

Could this really make Selena wake up? What if I was just wasting my time by listening to Rayan’s bullshit?

“Is that why you are here? You wish that I could visit her?” She asked, and I stared at her. She was sincere.

“I will be grateful if you can.”

She nodded. “I will think about it, but I promise you that it will be positive. If Mama gave her life saving her, then it means she is important to Mama.” she smiled.

Selena, the girl  was just like her mother. Even though she didn't know me, she was ready to follow her mother’s lead.

“What am I going to get from all this? Did she just die for nothing after having such a score with Mateo? She is such a disappointment.”

I heard the husband murmuring on the floor. I turned to look around. The environment wasn't good for the child.

I should change that. I took out another card and handed it to her.

“Call the number on the line and he’ll guard you to a new place, everything will be alright from there.”

“Does it mean I’m getting a new place? But why would you get me a new place?” She asked.

“What do you think, you idiot? Of course he can afford more than a hundred of them.” He cursed, still bowing on the floor.

For someone like him, I should get him away from her but he was her only guardian. I shouldn't take that from her.

“You are allowed to move in with her,” I said to him. He raised his head and his eyes widened.

“Really? I can move into your place?”

“He said the place and not his place. Why would he want you moving into his place?” Yanni glared at him.

And he glared back at her.

“You can move in and more. I’ll let you work in my company and you’ll be paid double but you have to promise something.”

His eyes widened. “I never thought something like this would happen to me one day. Tell me I’m not dreaming. What do I need to do? I would do anything.”

“From now on, you have to protect her and be a good father to her. You will have people watching you and if you dare take a wrong step, then I will make sure you are disposed of.”

He swallowed and nodded. It was a good thing he knew I wasn't to be played with.

“I should go back to the hospital. Now that I have done something good, Selena must be awake.” My lips curled into a smile.

“Take care of yourself,” I said to her and stepped out of the building.

Ethan was already in front of the car, he opened the car door, and I entered.

“How was it? I never took you for one to solve a family drama.” He started laughing, and I glared at him.

“Laugh all you want. As long as Selena has enough goodwill to wake up, I don't mind meeting more people.”

Ethan nodded mockingly. “Then should we go now? You should visit the company now that you took a shower and look yourself. I was honestly starting to get worried.

“I won't be going anywhere till Selena is fully well.”

I rested my back on the chair and closed my eyes. “There are two more people I need to take care of.” I opened my eyes to look at Ethan.

“Who are they? Do you need me searching for them?” He asked.

I shook my head. “No. I already have their details, I want you to bring them to me.

Ethan nodded. “Who are they?”

“There was a club Selena worked at when she was young. He used her.” I laughed.

I’ve been on the search for this for some time. It was strange that everything about Selena was hidden. But I have been able to get hold of it.

The reason why Selena was hurt and in a daze in the past. The only reason she had looked at me with tears in her eyes like she was haunted though she was unconscious.

Just like I promised her, I was going to eliminate every source of her nightmare.

“Then who was the other person?” Ethan asked.

“Her ex-boyfriend. Noah Theodore.”
