Chapter 205: Markus
“I heard that you boys had some troubles,” Alpha Harold says as he sits at the dining room table.
“Alpha,” Cal says in a clipped tone.
“Sorry for the intrusion, but I figured that I had better accompany my mate here and talk with you about what is happening at the Alpha council,” he tells us.
“What is that stuffy lot up to now?” Uncle Mike asks as he wheels himself into the dining room, his mate not far behind him.
“That stuffy lot is in full scale panic as your nephews asked for an audit of the packs. A lot have nothing to hide, but a few of them do. Those are the ones buzzing like hornet’s nest,” Alpha Harold says.
“What does that have to do with us?” I ask, not liking where this is going.
“Well, those that have been abusing their power, are not happy. Their exploits are coming to light,” he tells us. “Who do you think they are blaming?”
“Us,” Cal sighs in frustration. “This is not what we needed right after everything.”
“What exactly happened?” he asks curiously. He wants some answers.
“Our Luna was kidnapped and we rescued her,” I tell him simply.
Alpha Harold gives me an unimpressed look. “I’m guessing that it has something to do with witches and your mate being a white wolf?”
“Yes, witches were involved,” Uncle Mike says.
The older Alpha gives a nod. “The council was muttering about how they had heard whispers of witches,” he sighs. “When did we start withholding information and becoming more like the humans?”
“I would say when we decided to start listening to ourselves and ignoring our goddess,” Cal growls slightly.
Alpha Harold nods his head. “The remaining witches?” he asks, switching back to them.
“Here, they are settling in our pack. We’ve offered them asylum and they decided to stay,” Cal tells him.
“You had to cause more trouble,” Alpha Harold sighs. “You should have been keeping your heads down.”
“What do you mean?” I demand sharply.
“You have the white wolf, a few of the more ambitious Alphas are upset that you have her. Now, you have witches, who most thought they were extinct, hanging out and part of your pack,” he explains.
“We painted a bigger target on ourselves,” Uncle Mike sighs.
“Who do we need to watch out for?” Cal tries not to growl.
“Devin Connix has a few friends that he is whispering to,” Alpha Harold says.
“Kira and James are not going to like that,” I sigh. I will mind link the pair after we are done. Kira and Daniel will need to be a part of the future conversation about Devin’s habits and haunts.
The visiting Alpha cocks his head in questioning.
“Our Beta and his mate. She was a part of Devin’s old pack. He tried to force her as his chosen mate,” Cal says, his eyes flashing.
“Damn,” the Alpha sighs.
“Too many wolves are taking chosen mates because they want a prettier mate, stronger mate, you name it, they want it instead of taking their fated mate,” I sigh. Ama had been growling and twitchy as she heard whispers of chosen mates.
“What do we need to do to keep our pack safe?” Uncle Will asks, his eyes flickering to my twin.
“That is hard,” Alpha Harold says. “Witches are a large unknown. Some of the more ambitious Alphas get twitchy when the power shifts.”
“You think that Devin is going to cause trouble here?” Uncle Mike asks.
“If he can get a few of his friends to help him,” Alpha Harold sighs.
“We’ll keep an ear open for any whispers,” I say. “Why do things always go to shit when things seem to be going right?”
Goddess, this must be how frustrated Ama has to be feeling. Every time something starts to go right, something else pops up and makes it go wrong.
“Anyone else we should be wary of?” Uncle Mike asks.
“That old Alpha of Mountain Peak out in Colorado,” he tells us. “He has a lot of allies that he can call on.”
“If Devin is smart, he will go to him,” I say.
“We need allies of our own,” Cal says simply.
“All you have to do is ask, boys,” Alpha Harold says pointedly.
“We don’t want to bring you into our mess,” I sigh.
“No, but William used to be part of my pack. He is best friends with my mate,” the older Alpha says.
“Please, help would be much appreciated,” I say. To hell with pride if it gets our pack killed.
“I’ll talk with my Beta and get you a roster of warriors that will be on call if something happens,” he says with a nod.
“Is there anyone else that you know of who would be willing to help?” Uncle Mike asks.
“That Alpha of the Red Dusk. He might be a brat and young, but in the last few weeks he has been trying to turn himself around,” Harold says.
“Alpha Clark?” I ask with an eye roll. The same idiot that had come to our pack a few weeks ago. He’s a dick, but he is probably good in a fight.
“I’ll also reach out to a few of my allies and see where they stand,” he says with a nod.
“Thank you,” Cal says with a nod of his own.
By the time the Lunas are done talking, we have a list of Alpahs who would likely be our allies, those who would side against us, and those that would remain neutral.
I want to sigh and slam my head against the table in frustration. We just killed Francesca, and now we have to deal with Devin.
“I’ll message you,” the visiting Alpha says as he stands to leave.
“Thank you,” I tell him as I shake his hand.
He nods as his Luna walks in with Ama.
“Well boys, we’ll see you on Monday?” Luna Rebekah says with a smile.
Ama nods her own head as she gives me a hug.
