Chapter 107 - Their Beautiful Strong Queen

Being stuck on this island is both a good thing and a bad thing. It's good because I get to spend time with my love River. It's bad because I'm stuck here and not back at home, helping to eliminate the threat. I want nothing more than to get these people all unalived so that we can get back home and concentrate on our baby.

We should be going to doctors' appointments, planning the nursery, and arguing over baby names. But with all of these bastards after River, I have to hide with her to keep her safe. Don't get me wrong, I'd gladly hide out with her anyway. But we are also missing our men. I know that she feels the same way. It's not even been a week yet, and we want to go home.

Don't get me wrong, we both love being on the island. It's warm here, and it's a very beautiful spot to spend time at. But we've both been away from home for too long if you count the weeks that River spent in Russia and the week that I joined her. She's never been away from her Nonna for this long, and she just got her Nonno back, so she's really missing them.

What time that I'm not working is spent on the beach or taking walks with River. Even though I'm not in the office, I'm still doing what I can remotely. I have a work phone that I transfer calls that go to my desk during the day. So I'm still able to take calls, messages, and transfer calls. I go through the emails and delegate anything that I'm not able to do remotely. That way, the temp doesn't have to try to do everything in my absence. All he has to do is the work that I send to him.

I even send Dom's messages that I can't send by email to him to pass along. It might be petty of me, but I'm not yet ready to speak to him. Don't get me wrong, I still love him and want to be with him. But I'm pissed off at him as well and probably will be for a while yet. When we get back home, I'll go back to speaking to him, but for now, it's not happening. I text Aries and Zeus at least once a day to let them know that we're OK. I usually text with Zeus more often. I'm not pissed off at him.

It's another day of doing office work. I don't plan to spend the whole day working though. My woman wants to go for a walk around the island, so that's what we're going to do. I spend most of the morning answering calls and transferring them to where they need to go. Since Dom is currently in Russia, his Dad, Luciano, and my Dad, Mario, are working in the office.

So most of the calls and emails that were important and needed to be seen to right now, I sent to Luciano. Most of the stuff was easy to do, but we had a contract for a piece of land that we had been in negotiations for. It was for a new building that we were working on. Dom wanted to build an apartment-like building for our people. We have been in the process of buying this land for a few months now. The plans that we have been working on would put it at thirty stories high. It would be big enough to have five apartments with five bedrooms each, on eighteen floors.

The top two floors would be our penthouse and have ten bedrooms and thirteen bathrooms. We also had plans for a game room, a theater, a big office, a huge kitchen, and a living room, and he even changed things around to add an art studio. The first five floors, he planned to make shopping areas.

We talked to different people in the area, and have a grocery store, restaurants, fast food places, a movie theater, an arcade, and even a bar or two. He wanted a place for our employees to call home and feel safe in it. We had a few employees who were living in bad areas, and he wanted them protected. We all did.

So when a new email came in about this property came in I was pissed and had to call Dom. When he didn't answer, I called Luciano about it. When I called him, the phone rang a few times before he picked it up. "Hey Marcello, what's going on?" "Hey Luciano, sorry to bother you, but I couldn't reach Dom. We have a problem. He's been working on a contract for a piece of property for a while now. We were almost done with the contract and set to sign it soon. He wants this land to build a thirty-story apartment building for our people. At our last meeting with this guy, we had a few things that had to be worked out. We talked over it and agreed on the price and shit. Now this asshole is wanting more money and won't say why. I'm going to forward the email to you that he sent to me," I said as I sent him the email.

"I also sent this to our lawyer because he was there when we talked out the price and shit. This guy is not going through his lawyer now, and it makes me suspicious as hell about it," I told him. He was quiet for a few minutes before he said "OK, I got the email, let me read through it. Can you send me the last contract that you went over and the prices that you all agreed upon?" He asked me. "Yeah, I'll send those through now."

I went through my files and found copies of the last meeting that we had. I even had a video of the meeting as well. I sent everything that I had to Luciano and waited for him to look through it all. While he was looking through it, I stepped over to the window to check on River. She and her Mom were both lying outside by the pool. The guards are both sitting close and keeping a watch out. Rodion also has cameras all over the island that the boys have access to as well. So if someone shows up or even gets close to the island, we'll know.

I had the phone up to my ear as I watched out the window. When Luciano came back on the phone he said "Don't worry, I'll deal with this for you guys. Some things not adding up with this. It makes me really suspicious, especially since he says that he won't meet face-to-face about it. To me, that says that someone else is pulling the strings. If there is, I'll find out. I have your dad tapping this guy's phone line. And we're also trying to get access to the cameras that are close to this guy's house. And the ones that are close to the land that you're trying to buy. We may have to call Zeus and see if he can access them for us. I think this guy is being used by someone to get more money. And we're going to find out by who and why. I know that Dom's on his way back here. That may be why you can't get ahold of him. But don't worry, I'll take care of this for you. I'll get ahold of you once I know something. I was getting a little bored sitting in the office, so this should be fun."

"Thank you, Luciano. If I was there, I'd take care of it myself. But since I can't, I figured that you and Dad could take care of it for me. I didn't trust anyone else to look into this for me," I told him. "Don't worry, your dad and I can handle this. You're where you need to be. You keep watching after our daughter-in-law and our grandbaby. How is River doing, by the way?" He asked me. "She's doing well, she's still dealing with the morning sickness. And we're both ready to be back home" I said.

"Soon, you'll both be back home soon. And then we can start preparing for our grandbaby. Of course, all the women are already planning for the baby. I know my wife already has a nursery started. As much as she can, anyway." "Your mom does as well" I heard my dad yell in the background. "We'll let you go Marcello, and we'll take care of this. I'll get ahold of you in a little bit and let you know what's going on with it. Give River hugs from us and tell her we miss her."

"I will, and she misses you guys as well. Be careful, love you, Dad," I yelled out at him. "Love you, son" he yelled back. I got off the phone with them and then finished up what I was doing and then logged out of my email and shut the laptop down. I locked it up in a drawer and then went to our room to change.

I changed into a pair of shorts and then headed out to get River for our walk. I tucked my phone in my pocket on my way so that I'd have it in case Dad or Luciano tried to call me. He said that Dom was on his way back to Texas. I'm really hoping that is a good thing. I'm hoping and praying that they have answers to shit and can finish all of this.

When I got outside, River was eating a bowl of mixed fruit and drinking a cup of tea. I kissed her forehead and then sat down beside her. "You get done eating baby, we'll take our walk. I'm done for the day. Dad and Luciano said to give you hugs and let you know that they miss you. My mom and Angela are already making nurseries in their respective houses. They can't wait to be grandmas. Or to have you back home to fuss over," I told her.

"Next time you talk to them, tell them that I miss them all as well. And that I can't wait to be home either. I'm ready to get home and start figuring shit out. I can't keep staying with Nonna and Nonno now that I have a baby on the way. I need to find an apartment or something" she said. "Wherever you go to stay, whether it's with all of us or it's in your own place, I'll be with you. I'm not leaving your side ever again. You're my woman and I won't let you down again. We'll figure out where we're going to stay and go apartment hunting when we get back home if that's what you decide. It's up to you where we live, but I'll be paying for it. Now finish eating so we can go for a walk."

River finished up her bowl of fruit and drank her tea, and then we set off for a walk. After, I took her dishes inside and put them in the dishwasher. We walked along the shore, and River filled up my pockets with seashells and hag stones. We walked for a good way around the island until we were out of sight of the house. I sent a text to Leo and had him turn off the cameras for this area. We already had this planned. I wanted a little bit of alone time with my girl without anyone watching us.

When he texted back that the cameras were off, I emptied my pockets of seashells and hag stones. I even laid our phones down with them. River was watching me with a curious look, so I said "Come on, I want to go swimming. I had Leo turn the cameras off for this area so we could be alone for a while. There are guards close by but not close enough to see us. They can hear me though if I yell."

"Let's go then," she said as she grabbed my hand and led me into the water. We walked as far as we could and then started to swim. We swam around for about an hour or so before we made our way back to the shore. When we got close enough that I could touch the bottom, River swam up to me as I stood up.
