Chapter 66: Chapter Sixty-Six

Chapter Sixty-Six

“Take her to the car,” my Alpha said. Knowing it’d be futile, I didn’t—more like I couldn’t resist—as the second gamma came over to drag me up to my feet. A bitter taste lingered in my mouth, as I managed a glance at Andreas. If looks could kill, Alpha Kiel would drop dead at the murderous look in Andreas’ eyes. As they pulled me away, Andreas intercepted us, and leaned in close to my ear.

I wanted to tell him to back off. His reaction to everything that’d happened tonight would surely make his father suspicious, and make him put on a monitoring screen towards his son. I wondered if Andreas had thought of that too.

“I don’t know what they’re up to, but I can tell that it is not good. I promise we’ll come and get you. Stay low and don’t reveal anything.” His warm air fanned my earlobe, and I shivered subconsciously. I felt a need to clamp my legs together. I turned my head, and allowed the man to lead me away. Slowly, I detached myself from reality. I could still hear Alpha Kiel exchanging words with the Alpha of Calvary, but I couldn’t make out what they were saying.

I was pushed into the backseat, and I leaned down against it, pressing my thumb against my forehead. Alpha Kiel slipped into the car moments later, and before I could say a word, he gripped my wrist hard.

“What is your deal with Andreas Kai?” He asked, his eyes holding mine.

My skin crawled at his touch. He wasn’t even bothering to hide it. Something was wrong. Thinking about it, he appeared in the wee hours of the morning, not even patient enough to wait until it was fully morning, and had demanded to take me back. His impatience was startling. Plus the fact that I’d almost killed someone with my powers yesterday. Had he heard about it? But that was impossible. There’s no way he’d have known. Dimitris wasn’t present in class yesterday, so that ruled him out. And there was no member of Sungaze that I knew of, who attended the Elites Section and was in my class too.

“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” I forced myself to say, trying to pull my wrist out of his hold. His grip tightened, and I breathed harshly through my nose. Perhaps deciding that he wouldn’t get any information from me, he let go of my wrist, and I almost exhaled in relief. Throughout the ride back to Sungaze, I felt naked, vulnerable. And something I hadn’t felt in a long time—lonely. It was a startling realization. I’d come to regard Asper and the others as the friends I never had. And now, on the way to the pack where I grew up, the place where most of my bitter memories lay, I felt empty. As the car drove even closer, reducing the distance between Calvary and–

My thoughts came to a halt, and I decided to just rest. Everything else would fall into place, there was no need to fret. But as the car finally pulled over at the Alpha’s private garage, as Alpha Kiel glared at me with a tough look in his eyes, as I stared around the familiar surroundings, I felt an intense urge to get back into the car and drive all the way back to Calvary. This place…was no longer my home. I didn’t belong here.

“You belong with our mate,” Dria huffed.

“Not another word about Andreas.” I snapped, and straightened to my full height. Footfalls sounded behind me, and I turned promptly to see Dimitris rushing towards us, Elena closely behind him. I caught the brief look of gloating which crossed her face before it vanished.

“Theo!” She screamed in false excitement that sounded irritating to my ears, and rushed towards me, enveloping me in a tight hug. “I cried for days after you were taken away,” she sniffed. “I begged Dimitris to find a way to get you back. Thank the goddess you’re back.” She finished off, her eyes getting red.

And there went our award-winning actress.

“Really? I didn’t know you were that close with Dimitris,” I said, flashing the said person a look. He was standing close to his father, his eyes blazing as if they’d like to incinerate me to the spot.

“I’ll let you be for today. After that, you must appear before the pack’s council. We’ll decide what to do with you after that.” Alpha Kiel said to me, and then proceeded to head inside his residential part of the pack.

“What did you do?” Elena whispered curiously, moving close to me.

Holding Dimitris’ gaze, and tired of Eleni’s fake performance, I said, “Oh, nothing much. I just struck one of his gammas with a sharp dagger, ending his life on the spot. He had a lot of blood though, that man. His blood wouldn’t stop gushing out. Poor thing.”

Eleni’s expression was comical—at least, to me. She visibly paled, then stepped away from me.

““Why don’t you accompany me to my room, Eleni?” I asked, stretching out my hand towards her. She deftly avoided my touch, and I hid my smile. Good. The bitch should be afraid of me. “What?” I made a sad face. “You don’t want to? I thought you cried after my departure? I’m here now.” I made a sweet face.

She forced a small laugh, and stuttered on her words. “I-It’s just I don’t want to inconvenience you. You need to get some rest.” She said.

I waved my hand. “It’s not an inconvenience. Come on.” I smiled widely, moving in her direction. With one step that I took, she took two back. I momentarily forgot about my current situation, and was enjoying myself thoroughly.

“I–”

Dimitris, who'd been staring at me without a word, suddenly pounced towards me, grabbing my shoulder in a swift move. I didn’t flinch.

“Don’t think I’ve forgotten about your humiliation towards me. I’ll get my payback soon, bitch.” He threatened, then pushed me backward so I stumbled on my feet.
