Chapter 119: Albert’s Downfall

Stefan paced back and forth in his office, his mind racing as the investigator's words echoed in his ears. Albert was planning to sabotage Amber's pregnancy. The thought of it sent a wave of fury coursing through his veins. His cousin had always been a thorn in his side, but this? This was beyond anything Stefan could tolerate. He would protect Amber and their unborn child at any cost.

Without hesitation, Stefan picked up the phone and began making calls. His first order of business was security. He contacted the best private security firm in the country, ensuring that Amber would be guarded by a team of elite professionals—ex-military, trained in high-stakes protection, and with a reputation for absolute discretion. Thirty men would guard her around the clock, ensuring Albert wouldn't even get within a mile of her.

Next, Stefan arranged for a fleet of bulletproof cars. These weren't just any cars. Eight sleek, black, armored luxury vehicles would be delivered to the mansion within a week. Each was a top-of-the-line model, fully customized to withstand everything from bullets to small explosive devices. The cars were a mix of imposing Range Rover Sentinels and Mercedes-Maybach S-Guard sedans, their exteriors polished to a high gloss, yet intimidating in their sheer size and strength. Reinforced windows, high-performance engines, and state-of-the-art surveillance systems made them virtually impenetrable wheel fortresses.

The Sentinels had the power to bulldoze through any obstacle, while the Maybachs, with their opulent interiors and cutting-edge technology, ensured that Amber could travel in comfort and luxury even as her life was shielded from danger. Stefan knew the cost was astronomical, but it didn't matter. Amber and their child's safety was priceless.

When Amber learned about the security detail and the cars, her initial reaction was disbelief. Sitting on the plush couch in their living room, she stared at Stefan, her brow furrowed. "Thirty men? Bulletproof cars? Stefan, isn't this a bit too much? I know things are serious, but this feels like overkill."

Stefan, overseeing her, crossed the room in quick strides, kneeling in front of her and taking her hands in his. His face was etched with determination, his jaw tight with the intensity of his emotions. "Baby, it's not too much. You don't understand how far Albert is willing to go. I won't let him get close to you. Not now, not ever. He's crossed a line, and I won't give him any chance to hurt you or our baby."

Amber looked into his eyes, seeing anger and fear swirling within him. She sighed, running a hand through her hair. "I understand, honey. I do. I hate being holed up in the mansion, surrounded by security. But I'll do whatever it takes to keep our baby safe. If that means resting until the birth and going along with all this, then so be it."

Stefan exhaled, relieved she wasn't pushing back too much. He kissed her hands gently, his voice softening. "Thank you for understanding. I need you to trust me on this. Albert's been making shady deals, and I've already told the police about his transactions. They'll catch him soon with any luck, but until then, I can't take any risks."

Amber nodded, her heart heavy but filled with love for the man kneeling before her. She could see how deeply Stefan cared for her, how the thought of anything happening to her or their child terrified him. She reached out and touched his face, her thumb brushing his cheek. "I trust you, Stefan. I always have."

He looked up at her, his amber eyes softening momentarily as he leaned into her touch. "I promise, Amber. I'll make sure Albert pays for what he's done, and I'll make sure you and our baby are safe. No matter what it takes."

They sat silently momentarily, Stefan's strong arms wrapping around her protectively. At that moment, Amber felt both the weight of their situation and the unwavering strength of the man she had married. Whatever happened next, she knew Stefan would move heaven and earth to protect her.

The sterile, cold walls of the police station buzzed with tension as officers led Albert through the narrow hallways. His wrists were bound tightly in handcuffs, the metal digging into his skin, but it wasn't the physical discomfort that gnawed at him—it was the simmering rage coursing through his veins. He clenched his jaw, his mind racing, trying to understand how his perfectly orchestrated transaction had been sabotaged. Someone had tipped the police off, and Albert was suspicious of who it might be.

As he stepped into the dimly lit holding area, Albert's gaze darkened as he saw Stefan standing on the other side of the room. His cousin looked almost too calm, as though he had been expecting this moment all along. Stefan's suit was immaculate, his posture solid and unwavering, and his eyes locked onto Albert's with a look that made Albert's blood boil. It was the look of a man who had won—who had outsmarted him and was basking in his victory.

The tension between them was palpable, so thick it seemed to suck the air out of the room. The officers who had brought Albert in could sense the growing hostility. They exchanged nervous glances but stood their ground, watching as the two men stared each other down.

Albert's lips curled into a sneer. "You," he spat, his voice low and filled with venom. "You did this. You tipped them off, didn't you?"

Stefan's expression didn't change, but his eyes showed a glint of satisfaction. He stepped forward, his voice steady and controlled, the voice of a man who had calculated every move. "You shouldn't be surprised, Albert. Did you think I wouldn't find out about your filthy operations? You've crossed too many lines. It's time someone put an end to your games."

Albert's hands clenched into fists, the chain between his cuffs rattling as he stepped toward Stefan, his chest heaving with fury. "You think you're so clever, don't you? You think you've won just because I'm here? This won't stop me. I'll be out of here soon, and when I am, I'll—"

Stefan cut him off with a sharp laugh, his tone laced with contempt. "You'll what, Albert? Try to sabotage my life again? Hurt Amber? Come after my child? Not this time. You've gone too far, and I won't let you ruin any more lives."

Albert lunged forward, but two officers immediately stepped in, restraining him. He strained against their hold, his face twisted with anger as he glared at Stefan. "You're no better than me, Stefan! You think you're some hero, protecting your precious family, but you're just as ruthless as I am!"

Stefan's jaw tightened, his voice dropping to a cold, dangerous tone. "The difference between us, Albert, is that I fight for the people I love. You fight for nothing but greed and power. And that's why you'll rot here while I'll be with my family—something you'll never have."

Albert's nostrils flared, his breath coming out in ragged gasps as he tried to wrestle free from the officers. He wanted nothing more than to punch Stefan's smug face, to make him pay for the humiliation and for ruining everything he had worked for. But the police held firm, keeping him restrained as he seethed with impotent rage.

Stefan stepped closer, just out of arm's reach but close enough to ensure Albert could hear every word. "This is just the beginning. I've already tipped the police about your other dealings. They're going to dig into every corner of your dirty little empire, and when they're done, you won't have a shred of dignity left. I'll make sure of it."

Albert's eyes blazed with fury, but beneath the anger was a flicker of fear. He knew Stefan wasn't bluffing. His cousin had the resources, the connections, and the determination to eradicate him. Albert felt defeat pressing down on him for the first time, a suffocating realization that he might not come out of this unscathed.

Stefan watched as the reality of the situation dawned on Albert, and for a brief moment, there was a flicker of sympathy in his eyes. But it vanished as quickly as it came, replaced by the cold resolve of a man who had made up his mind. "You brought this on yourself, Albert. You made your choices, and now you'll face the consequences."

With that, Stefan turned on his heel and left the room, leaving Albert behind, fuming in his rage, his future crumbling before his eyes. The police officers led Albert away to the holding cell, and as the door slammed shut behind him, the weight of Stefan's words settled heavily on his shoulders.

Albert felt truly and utterly trapped for the first time in his life. And as much as he hated admitting it, he knew Stefan had won.
