Chapter 73: Something's Not Right...

Nadine Black's POV:

Everyone standing around us in the Fellowship Hall of this church couldn't have been more thrilled. As I stood there behind a towering five-tier wedding cake, I looked down to appreciate that there were two slices of cake already set on a small plate. They were positioned right there in front of both Damian and me.

As I looked up at Damian in that moment, I couldn't help but see the threat he flashed across his eyes. I knew there would definitely be repercussions for my actions if I made a scene in this moment. Damian didn't have to say it. I knew it without him having to speak.

"Now feed the bride first," my father, Germaine, called out as he stood there to the side right behind Damian. "Don't make a mess."

You could hear laughter and cheers coming from the people as Damian reached out and took a fork. He gathered a small bite of cake on it before he held it up in front of my mouth. That motion alone caused several men in the room to start making appreciative, whooping sounds as some whistled that Damian was being a gentleman.

I was pleased that he chose to use a fork instead of making a mess with his hands. I have seen how some people have made a complete and utter fool of themselves at the 'tasting of the cake' moment. I was glad that both of us were going to be a bit more reserved than that.

Damian was polite, waiting patiently as I parted my lips and opened my mouth so he could slide the fork inside. He smirked at me as he raised his chin slightly, wanting me to close my lips so he could remove the fork and I could taste the treat he had just served me.

As he removed the fork, I finally tasted the sweetness and moistness of the delicious red velvet cake as he pulled it back out of my mouth. I even closed my eyes in that moment, inhaling deeply, smelling the aroma of the red velvet as I tasted it at the same time.

"What a beautiful photo," I heard the photographer call out from the opposite side of the table.

"All right, Nadine," my father called out to me as I turned to the side, opening up my eyes and looking directly at him. "Show us how it's done. It's your turn to serve your husband."

"You give the bride the wedding of her dreams, and she will give him the night of his life," someone called from the back of the audience standing in front of us.

That comment alone struck more whoops and cheers coming from a lot of the men standing around us. That alone caused more laughter to break out among the crowd as I couldn't help but feel my cheeks flush in that moment. I even had to look down to regain my composure.

I knew precisely what this night was going to bring. I had had sex before. I had had all my holes filled at once at one point, but that didn't mean I knew what was going to happen tonight. Damian was unlike anybody else. He was unmatched in every way.

As my eyes once again met with Damian's, he flashed yet another threatening look across his eyes as he looked directly at me. I knew exactly what he was thinking. He didn't want me to make a fool of myself or him in this moment. What should I do? Decisions... decisions.

Damian narrowed his eyes at me, causing me to stop in my movement. I then moved again, closing the distance to his slice of cake sitting there on the plate at the edge of the table. I was reaching with my open hand, and then, at the very last moment, I grabbed the fork instead of a handful of cake as I thought to do originally.

You could hear disappointed scowls coming from some of the men, but then all of a sudden they decided to laugh instead, knowing how meaningful this moment was for the both of us.

I politely scooped up a small bite of cake. That's when I delicately held the small bite on the fork out between the two of us. I was waiting to see if Damian was going to glare at me again. I moved it closer to Damian's mouth, just as he looked at me with an intense look.

This look was unknown to me. It almost looked as if he was showing me something of intense desire, right before he parted his lips, allowing me to feed him a bite of cake.

Flashes could be seen coming from all different parts of the room as everybody was taking photos. My eyes were closed previously, so I didn't see the so-called camera flashes. A lot of people held their phones in their hands, so the main flashes came from the photographer.

"How does the cake taste, my dear?" My mother called out from behind me as my father stepped closer, as he was still standing behind Damian.

"This red velvet cake is unmatched," I said, turning around as I smiled at everybody standing on the opposite side of the table. "Just the right amount of creaminess!"

"Time for another family photo!" The photographer called out as we all turned to look at him.

This caused my father and mother to step in closer, wrapping their arms around us so we could take yet another photo behind the wedding cake, but this time as one, instead of just me and Damian taking one together.

Before you knew it, everybody was having their own conversations as we all took a seat at the tables. I was looking forward to eating my very own slice of cake, and not being under so many watchful eyes. I know the wedding is about the bride and groom, but I still wanted privacy here and there.

The main part of the reception was well underway at this point.

My mother was sitting directly beside me at the table, and that's when she reached into her purse and pulled out her cell phone. She scowled at her face in a manner that you shouldn't see at a wedding. It made me think that something was wrong.

"Mother?" I questioned in a low tone as I leaned closer to her.

She looked at her phone, then turned it face down, placing it on top of her purse in her lap.

"Mother, who is it?"
