Chapter 100: Chapter 100
Agatha's POV
I stared at Bella for the millionth time since today as she kept eating from her meal quietly.
“Aren't you going to say anything?” I broke the silence with a question, and she gazed up at me.
“Why did you fire the maid?” She retorted with a question.
I scoffed before drinking from my juice. “Is that what has been bothering you?”
“You terminated her employment for no reason, Agatha. If your Dad returns and gets to know of her disappearance, he might rage on me.” She complained gruffly.
“Didn't you hear how she spoke to you? She is a mere maid, and she deserves to be laid off.” She replied with a sigh. “Dad won't make it a big deal if we lied that Raven left by herself and without me terminating her employment. That way, he won't get mad at you.” I added, and I saw her sigh in relief.
“If that's it. But still, you shouldn't have fired her. Perhaps it was a misunderstanding which could have been settled.”
“Are you nervous?” I asked the moment I saw the anxiety look in her eyes.
She chuckled. “No, I'm not. Why would you say so?”
“Because I sense that you're nervous about something.” I replied with a frantic shrug.
“It's about Aaron...”
“What about him?”
“I know he is out in the city searching the nooks and crannies for me, Agatha. And I'm scared that if he finds out you're the one who took me, he might harm you. He is ruthless and heartless, he doesn't think twice before doing something.” She explained with a sad expression, but I was unmoved.
I used to be scared of that bastard ever since Eric doesn't ever let me talk about him in his presence but now, I'm much more ready to face him even if it means that I'd die later on.
“You know why we're doing this, don't you?” I reminded her.
She managed a smile. “Of course I know what this is about, but I'm talking of your own health-”
“I won't be at peace until my brother is out of prison, and Laura rescued. The corps are worthless set of people, and they can't do anything.”
“How's Eric doing? You do go check on him, right?” She suddenly changed the topic and another sigh escaped me.
“He restricted me from visiting him. He said he doesn't want any of us there. He's still grieving...” I trailed off as sadness masked me.
“There has been no lead on Laura's whereabouts ever since, and I can't disclose anything to him yet. Not even her brother knows or Mom either...”
“Well, don't you think we should tell them? They deserve to know.” She said softly, but I disagreed.
“We can't tell them yet, without a hint of Laura's whereabouts. She's nowhere to be found, so what's the use of letting them know?”
“I wish I could help... I'm sorry for failing you,” She muttered.
“Don't get too emotional, I hate it when someone is emotional in front of me.” I cut her off. “Don't worry, we'll try another way. He's going to kill you if he sees you around his house, so I can't send you there anymore. I'll come up with another plan.” I added.
“What will you do?”
“Relax, Bella.”
“I'm just worried. Aaron is behind everything that's happening. There are evidence to incriminate him, but it'd be difficult to get through them.” She insisted.
“I know that, but he still kept denying that he's responsible for Laura's disappearance.” I told her.
“What's happening here?” We both heard a voice from the entrance door. I tilted my head in the direction and to my surprise, it was Mom and there was Dad with her bags by her side.
“Mom!” I exclaimed upon seeing her, my jaw flexed as shiver ran down my spine. No! It can't be!
I shared a look with Dad and then to her. He couldn't have told her, could he? What was he thinking about when he told her?
Mom's eyes draped over my shoulders to Bella, who instantly lowered her eyes to the floor shamefully.
I expected Mom to march towards her and slap the hell out of her, but nothing came from Mom. Instead, she stood on her spot, her gaze meeting with mine again.
“Mom.” I called again, forcing out a smile as I rushed to welcome her, but immediately, she moved away before I could.
“I asked what's going on here?” She stared between me and Bella with a look of disappointment mixed with anger.
“What do you mean, Mom?” I asked with a nervous chuckle and eyed Dad.
“What is she doing here?”
She?
No one needed to tell me who she was referring to as 'She'. Obviously, it was Bella.
“Hun, you have to calm down. Bell isn't here to cause any problem...” At first, I thought I heard incorrectly, but then again, Dad surprised me by replying to Mom.
That only meant that she had no clue yet.
“Yes, Dad is right, Mom.” I said and walked to Bella. “Bella here isn't any enemy but on our side now. She's helping us, Mom.” I explained, and then her eyes met with mine and I gave her an assuring nod.
Mom looked at us as if we were insane and ridiculous as the maids helped her with her bags.
“Do you both understand what you're saying, huh? Can someone explain to me what this is about?! She isn't supposed to be here!” Mom half-yelled as Dad tried to assure her, but she wouldn't listen.
Just like the rest of us, Mom loathed Bella ever since she left Eric devastated, and I could still feel that loathe in the air until that moment, but wasn't that in the past? Bella had gone extra miles to prove herself to me, and I could vouch for her... Well, not really, but she was a good asset.
And risking the life of her and her baby would be a bad idea.
“I understand what you're saying, Mom, but she has changed now. I saved her from Aaron's wrath, and she's in our side.” I blurted before I could stop myself, but then she got the hint as her eyes narrowed on us.
“She's on your side for what reason? Is there something going on that you aren't telling me, Agatha?” Mom questioned.
