A Sweet Song

A Sweet Song

Finley P.O.V.

I couldn't believe what I had just heard come out of Serenity's mouth. Everyone always told me she was crazy and I should've never gotten involved with her, but when Lily left I was in pieces.

And Serenity was there picking them up one by one. I felt so stupid. The realization of the whole situation hitting me in the face like a truck.

That night that Lily disappeared, something didn't feel right about it. I had just seen her, kissed her, had a few drinks with her, and then the rest is a blur. I should've known, but I always chopped it up as me getting wasted like I usually did.

Now I'm sitting here, two people away from the girl I would dare day was the closest thing I felt to love, sitting next to the girl I currently am falling for, and across from the biggest fucking traitor I've known.

"Fuck you Serenity. Genuinely, fuck you."

I got up and stormed off, Evangeline's voice dwindling as I walked away. I let my body sink onto a large log, my mind racing through all the encounters I have had through the years with Serenity. How fake every single one of them was, how much lust and jealousy were the driving factors in her friendship with me. And how I believed every second of it.

"Finley."

A small whisper, so soft I almost missed it deep in my thoughts. I looked around, but everyone in the circle was arguing, and there was no one else over where I was.

"Sweet Finely."

I got up, swinging my head around left to right, still no one.

"Right here, Finley. Come closer."

My feet carried me towards the dark forest, my mind trying to resist the urge to move forward to see who was speaking, but my body kept moving like somone was pulling me.

A small cry was coming from inside. No, not a cry, a song, the sweetest song.

Like a lullaby, I stepped into the forest, desperate to find the source, desperate for the song to consume me.

A woman was on the ground, crouched and moving things around, but the singing was coming from her. Her movements on the ground were fluid like water, deliberate in each thing she was doing.

"Who are you?" My voice came out soft, a whisper just like hers must've been in the beginning.

The woman snapped her head in my direction. Her face gray and riddled with cracks that oozed black, her eyes were pure white, something I have never seen before.

I stumbled backwards, tripping over a root and landing flat on my back. My head slammed into the ground and everything went black.

Everything hurt when I woke up. I was no longer outside, but in a small house. I felt the back of my head, now crusted over with dried blood and other small debris clinging to my hair.

My legs screamed as I tried to stand, pain shooting up my back and down my arms from where I had fallen.

I stumbled to the window, looking for any way out, or maybe the woman I saw. My mouth gaped open at what I was seeing. Susan stood right in front of the woman, speaking to her as if they knew each other.

The woman was saying nothing while Susan was talking, as if she were giving her directions or something.

All of a sudden trees started to fall, trees that weren't there suddenly were, all falling in a straight path. Then screaming. Not from Susan or the woman, others. Other people, from camp. They must've noticed I was missing.

But if Susan is here, before everyone else, did she put me here? Did she put...oh god. This whole time. This whole fucking time. We knew Lainey was in on it, Susan had a part in it, but this is more. This is so much more. More than Lainey probably knew.

Susan knows this woman, and this woman, she's...the fucking Temptress.

Shadowy figures emerge from the outskirts of the forest, running from something, until they stop right in front of Susan and the woman. I squint, trying to make out who all came into the forest.

Immediately I recognize Evangeline. God her fierce look is definitely a turn-on. If I die in this damn forest, I'll regret not telling her how I truly feel about her. I knew from the moment I saw her that she was special, a force to be reckoned with, and here she is.

I honestly always messed with her because it was cute how she would scrunch her face when she got mad, and I liked looking at her butt when she stormed away from me. But now her cute mad face had turned into something else, she was pissed.

Everyone behind her was out of breath, sweat dripping down their foreheads, some doubled over trying to catch their breath.

Susan started speaking to them, but I couldn't hear anything. I could see Evangeline getting more pissed by the second, and if looks could kill, both of those women would be dead.

Susan pointed to the cabin and I ducked away from the window. Shit.

I had to figure out a way to get out of here and join the rest of the group. It's clear we won't be getting out of here without taking those two down.

I crawled across the floor and started opening drawers, boxes, and looking underneath anything and everything. The only things I could find were a dull knife and dust bunnies. Whoever was here had taken everything. I shoved the knife in my waistband behind my back.

This would have to do I guess. I crawled over to the front door and slowly twisted the knob. The door opened slightly with a creak and I could see the group still in confrontation with Susan and the woman.

I slid outside of the cabin and went around the side. I turned the corner to go behind the cottage, hoping to take the scenic route around Susan and bee-line it to Evangeline.

As I started to make my way around some trees, a shadow whipped by me and stopped right in front of me. A distorted woman appeared out of thin air.

"Holy shit! What the fuck!" I screamed and ran towards Evangeline. I guess there goes my plan of being discrete.

Everyone turned to stare at me as this woman chased me, pushing me closer to them.

I was arm's length away from Evageline when I felt something wrap around my neck and pull me backwards, slamming me into the ground. I tried clawing at my neck, choking from whatever grabbed me but there was nothing there.

I looked around and the woman next to Susan held her arm out towards me.

"Easy Finley, what good is bait if it's dead? Stay still like a good dog and I'll tell her to let you go."

I stopped squirming and Susan snapped her fingers. Air flooded my throat as the invisible force released me. The knife I had shoved in my waistband dug into my back, a sharp reminder that it was still there.

"Are you okay Finley?" Evangeline's voice flooded with immediate concern, her face changing from anger to a softened expression.

I rapidly nodded my head, I didn't want to say anything that would make Susan do anything to her or me again.

"As nice as that little trick was Finley, we won't be giving you up that easily. Now, where were we? Ah yes, I think I had just told you that you won't be getting out of here alive! Mother told us to never play with our food dear sister, but these ones are too good to not have a little fun with first."

Sister? That's her sister? Once again I couldn't believe what I was hearing.

This whole situation was so fucked, whatever was going on here was fucked, I never wanted to be apart of any of this.

What more could there possibly be?
