Chapter 79: Chapter 79
Drake’s POV
What he said kept ringing in my ears: a Lycan came out of the void, and it was headed here. How? I thought Elisa and I were the only Lycans. Everyone had gone on the defensive with no thought spared for what the injured enforcer had just said. And to think I had been having an amazing time with Elisa a minute ago. And now this.
The enforcers had taken up arms, along with some pack members that could fight.
“I am sure he just said a Lycan,” someone behind me said.
“I thought Drake was the only Lycan,” another pack member muttered.
Beats me, I thought.
Elisa ran to where I was.
“How can I help?” she asked.
“No.”
“You are joking?”
“I need to know you are safe.”
“Drake, I can take care of myself. I am not meant to stand behind you, but beside you. And the sooner you accept that, the better for you.”
I blinked.
“Fine,” I replied, then held her hand and squeezed it. “Whatever you want, mine. But please, nowhere else but beside me.”
“Hey Elisa,” Mark said as he walked towards us. “Finally glad to meet you. Drake should have done the honours, but well… all things considered.”
“Hey Mark, glad to finally meet you too,” she replied, and she moved closer to him and hugged him.
My wolf growled.
“Oh for the love of… that’s my brother,” I said to my wolf.
“He is male,” he replied.
I shook my head at him. My wolf was quite possessive.
I wondered how Elisa’s wolf would look once she turned, and I wondered when that would happen.
“Everyone gather around,” my father said.
“The enforcers have formed a blockade at the edge of our territory. We are the last line of defence. If the Lycan breaches the blockade, and that’s a big if, he must not go beyond here. Our Lycan King and his mate will be joining us as we stand behind the enforcers.”
My father looked at me. I nodded to show him we were ready.
“There is no need to be afraid. Our old and young have already been moved to a secure place. Ladies and gentlemen, the war has begun. And we will win.”
Everywhere erupted into loud shouts of encouragement.
“Come on,” I said to Elisa, and we moved closer to where my dad and Hank were standing.
Before we got there, a lot of my pack members nodded at Elisa and me, and some even patted my back. They believed we would turn the tides in this war, just as the seers prophesied, and I was not going to fail them.
“Let me dress in something more combat ready,” Elisa said, and she excused herself before walking back upstairs.
“Son, are you ready?” my father asked.
“Yes.”
“I am already investigating how mates can use their abilities together. We didn’t have time to practice before this happened. Once I get feedback, I will communicate it to every Alpha.”
“It’s time to move,” my father said.
Not long after, Elisa joined us.
“Your mother is seeing to the proper settlement of our old and young, so she would not be joining us.”
We all moved together in our vehicles, our main focus the place where the enforcers had formed a barricade. It didn’t take long for us to get there.
The Lycan had not yet reached us.
Beta James walked up to us immediately we got down from the cars.
“Anything yet?” Hank asked.
“No. Nothing,” he replied.
“Then we wait.”
We all took defensive positions, holding our breaths, Elisa beside me.
“So there are more Lycans,” she said.
“Possibly more in that void,” I replied, my tone heavy.
Then…
We heard a loud roar.
Everyone stood at alert.
“Here we go!” Beta James shouted.
Some enforcers and Alphas changed into their wolf forms while some, including me, remained human. I would only change when necessary. The plan was to catch the enemy unaware.
We could all hear the Lycan getting closer.
“Be ready. The Lycan is almost here,” my father said.
Then it came crashing out of the forest and stopped the moment it saw us.
It was a male Lycan.
He was in his full-blown Lycan form.
To see someone that looked like me stirred something inside me I didn’t even know I felt.
Loneliness.
The loneliness of being the only Lycan. Even that had not completely disappeared when I discovered Elisa was one too. Maybe it was because she had not yet changed.
Although this Lycan was here on anything but friendly terms, I was strangely glad I was no longer the only one.
He looked around, then changed to his human form.
That piqued my interest.
He was pure muscle, his body covered in scars. A mark ran from the side of his eye down to his lips.
“I am here to deliver a message,” he said.
He was butt naked but clearly didn’t care, even though he stood in front of people who were neither family nor friends.
“Who are you and what do you want?” my father asked.
“I am not here for introductions. I am here to deliver a message to the imposter Lycan King.”
He was here for me.
“Let him know that there can only be one Lycan King. Our ruler and his wrath cannot be tamed. Once it is aimed at you, you will not survive.”
He paused, his cold eyes fixed on me.
“Our ruler wants the head of the imposter Lycan King. That is the only way to end this. Otherwise, your world will face the might of a thousand Lycans.”
“We know of no other Lycan King but one, and he is the only one we acknowledge. That…” my father said firmly, “is our answer.”
“Then so be it. Expect us on the day of the red moon. You were warned.”
He changed back into his Lycan form and ran back into the trees. My guess was he was returning to wherever he came from.
“Fuck… did he just say a thousand Lycans?” Mark said.
That rendered everyone speechless because we all knew the kind of damage one Lycan could do.
