Chapter 34: *...use their power...*

*“I see your power has fully started to emerge.”* Boris said through the mind link. *“Your hair and eyes are just like your mother’s.”* Pride and warmth was in his voice.

Matt looked at his dad, and met his father’s gaze. *“Yeah, it was trippy seeing the change in the mirror.”* he said. Pulling on a strand of hair he asked, *“Should I hide the change?”*

Boris shook his head. *“The only reason your mother hides hers, is because she has done it for so long it became a habit. That and all the questions she would have to field at her sudden change in appearance.”*

*“Ah, that would be annoying.”* Matt responded almost absent mindedly as he thought about it.

Boris chuckled quietly so as not to wake his sleeping mate. *“It is your decision.”*

Matt nodded. *“Mom said she would teach me the glamor spell she uses.”*

Boris looked at Matt with surprised eyes. *“She hasn’t yet?”*

Matt shook his head, then pointed to the sleeping Lissanna. *“She fell asleep while I was reading the tome.”*

*“Ah.”* Boris said, his expression understanding. *“It’s really simple, just say ‘fela minn frost’”*

Matt cocked his head to the side, his eyes narrow as he looked at his father in confusion. *“Vella mean frost?”*

Boris shook his head gently, trying not to disturb the sleeping Lissanna. *“Close, but your pronunciation could do with a little work. It’s Old Norse, ‘fela minn frost,’ it means ‘hide my frost.’”*

*“Oh, that is simple.”* Matt said, then he whispered the words aloud, properly pronouncing them this time.

Air swirled around Matt, lifting his hair a little before it settled again. It all happened within a second, then Matt was looking at Boris with questioning eyes.

Boris smiled at Matt. *“Back to what you're used to looking at, although the blond is still a little brighter than it was before. No one will really notice, and if they do, they will assume it is because of all the outdoor training you are doing.”*

Matt relaxed and smiled up at his dad, relief, and gratitude in his eyes. *“Thanks dad. I don’t want to have to answer all the questions any more than mom does.”*

Boris had to force himself not to laugh out loud over that comment and wake his mate. Instead, Boris smiled broadly at Matt and said, with a voice full of amusement through a mind link, *“Goodnight Matt, try not to spend all night reading that Ancient tome.”*

Matt smiled at his father and nodded. *“I won’t. Night dad, I love you.”*

Boris smiled warmly at Matt. *“Love you too.”*

Matt let Boris out of the room, then went back to the tome. He was determined to find a way to be with his mate as she traveled to reach his Pack.

“Did you enjoy chatting with our pup?” Lissanna asked her mate as he carried her into their suite.

Boris looked down into the gorgeous eyes of his mate. “I did, he is growing into a fine wolf. His power has grown greatly since the spell on him was broken.”

Lissanna let out a growl, her blood boiling instantly at the mention of that spell. “That spell!” She spat. “If only I could get my hands on Sarah!”

Boris squeezed his mate tightly to his chest and kissed the top of her head. “Shhhhh mate, I know very well that you would avenge both our pups.”

Boris knew better than anyone what his mate would do to Sarah if she could get her hands on her. To further distract his mate, he laid her down on their bed and pressed a kiss to her mouth. Fire raced through Boris’s veins as he took Lissanna’s mouth.

Lissanna let out an involuntary moan of pleasure as her mate claimed her with his mouth. Lissanna knew her mate was trying to distract her, and it was working. Especially when Lissanna felt Boris’s hands start to roam over her body, igniting a fire within her as her need for him roared through her.

Piece by piece Boris removed Lissanna’s clothes, kissing, nibbling, and licking on each bit of newly exposed skin. Pleasure flooded Lissanna as Boris started to make slow sweet love to her. Boris felt what he was doing to his mate through their bond and set out to give Lissanna as much pleasure as he could. Lissanna’s pleasure became Boris’s pleasure.

Matt sat in the middle of his sitting room on the floor, his legs crossed, his hands braced on his knees and his eyes closed. Breathing in deep even breaths as he focused internally to access his new power. Inside their space, Ares sat at their pond, he was doing the same deep breathing exercise with Matt.

After reading for several more chapters, Matt and Ares had decided to try and purposely use their power to reach their mate. As they reached for their power, their space turned into a winter wonderland. The pond was suddenly covered in thick ice. The ice crackled and creaked as it settled, it produced a deep echo in the water under the ice. The sound of a howling wind rushed through their space next, causing them to close their eyes for a moment. When the wind stopped, the ground and trees were covered in several inches of snow.

The ice on the lake was smooth and shiny, reflecting everything like a giant mirror. A moment later, a large image appeared across the entire mirrored surface of the iced over lake. The image was of their mate, leading her group of fellow escapees. So far it looked like they were still moving at a fast pace. The landscape around his mate had changed. They were no longer in the underground tunnels they had been in before. Now they were traveling through a heavily wooded forest.

They all wore cloaks that looked like they had been made from the material of burlap sacks. Something told Matt there was more to these cloaks than what he could see. On their feet were soft boots that Matt suspected were just as special as the cloaks. They were still using the special lanterns he had seen before in the tunnels. Matt didn’t see any immediate danger to his mate at the moment. It seemed that their escape from the Black Magic coven was still unnoticed right now.

Matt really wanted to be there with his mate. He knew he couldn’t be there physically, but metaphysically was another story. Some instinct inside Matt let him know that if he stepped out onto the frozen lake, he would be able to join Rain in his astral form. Matt thought about all he had read in his Mother Clan’s tome. When either they or their wolf left their body in their astral form, one had to stay behind. Failure to follow that rule would bring about catastrophic consequences.

After thinking it over for a while, Matt finally came to a decision. “You go this time Ares.” Matt told him.

Ares looked at Matt in surprise. “Are you sure?”

Matt nodded, his gaze staying on the image of his mate in the lake. “Yes. It’s your turn to walk beside our mate.” His voice was firm.

Ares bowed his head and thought about it for a moment. His desire to make himself known to their mate ultimately made his decision for him. Jumping up, Ares trotted over to stand at the edge of the lake, pausing before stepping out onto the frozen surface. What struck Ares as odd was that the ice under his paws was not cold. After he walked forward more, the so-called ‘ice’ turned into a pool of warm water that got gradually deeper with each step. Ares paused once more when the warm water touched the bottom of his jaw. Taking a deep breath, Ares dipped his head into the water.

A moment later he felt like he was floating through air, the images around him blurred as he moved. Finally, he was dropped gently by his mate's side, hovering an inch or two above the ground. With a shake of his fur, Ares trotted next to Rain in his astral form. At first, he was unsure if Rain would notice him, but then her head suddenly whipped in his direction. The look in her eyes was a mixture of emotions, fear, suspicion, cation, curiosity, and disbelief.

It hurt for a moment to see those emotions in her eyes directed towards him, but he understood them. After all, she had been abused and used since her birth, just as another female he knew had been. Damien would be the one to help heal that female’s wounds of abuse. This female’s wounds were Matt and his responsibility to soothe and heal. Ares silently kept pace beside his mate, letting her observe him for a bit longer.

After what seemed like hours, but was really minutes, Rain finally spoke to him. “Who are you?”

Ares looked directly into her eyes and introduced himself. “I am Ares. The wolf form of your second chance fated mate.”

His answer had Rain stumbling forward a few steps in surprise before she pulled herself together and regained her original pace. With wide eyes she looked at Ares. “Say that again. I don’t think I heard you correctly.”
