Chapter 154: Another Vision

Chapter 154: Another Vision

Reah looked uneasy; her excitement dropped at the mention of his name, which made Lena even more disturbed.

“The Elias we know is a prodigy," Orion continued. “One of the best scientists and soldiers we have. Brilliant, but barely strong enough to fight in a war. He died during a conflict with another nation—or at least, that's what we were told."

Lena grimaced. She had heard that wars among human nations were never as simple as they seemed. They claimed many lives and left families devastated. She couldn't imagine what a war between races would even be like; that surely would have happened by now if they weren't currently sharing the same enemy.

“So he shouldn't be alive," Cain said flatly. “Then who exactly is leading the crawlers?”

Andrew shrugged. “I don't think we should concern ourselves with who is leading them or what their motives are for now. We need to find a way to turn the crawlers back."

Speaking of that, Lena suddenly remembered something and spoke up. “Do you know Marcus? Or have you heard the name?"

Liam answered this time. “Yes."

Her heart skipped a beat, but the dread died when he added, “He's dead as well. It is confirmed. My team buried him along with the families caught up in the first crawler attack in our town.”

Lena felt somewhat relieved, and Cain could tell. Just hearing that Marcus was confirmed dead once again made her heart lighter. If that was true, then the vision meant something else entirely. What bothered her now was why Cain had been laying there in her vision, and who exactly that person was if it wasn't Marcus.

After a moment, Cain said, “Regardless, we have humans, werewolves, a former crawler, and Lena. If a cure is possible, this is the best chance we’ll ever have.”

Shayla, who had been leaning silently against a pillar, nodded. “Agreed. Arguing now won't change anything. If Lena had something to do with Teresa's cure, then we better start now before the crawlers start moving again."

Reah hesitated. “We can begin preliminary work, but our main team is still en route. They’re transporting equipment and mobile labs.”

“Movable structures?” Vitto asked, speaking for the first time in a while.

“Think of them as... buildings with tires,” Reah replied.

Cain nodded. “Then we'll wait and prepare.”

The room mumbled in agreement. As the meeting drew to a close, Lena rose slowly from her seat to leave, but she suddenly froze. A spine-chilling sensation washed over her, and her eyes began to glow faintly.

Shayla, who was not unfamiliar with these situations, let out a sigh. "Right on time.”

Reah raised a brow. "Is something wrong with her?”

Cain leaned back into his seat and nodded. "Just give it a moment.”

The humans in the room were confused; the fact that Cain and Shayla remained so calm meant this wasn't the first time, but they wondered if she was truly okay. Teresa, concerned by Lena's sudden behavior, walked up to her and placed a hand on her shoulder. She shook her slightly, but Lena didn't respond. Lena was staring fixedly out the window behind Liam.

"She's not responding,” Teresa stated, turning back to look at Cain.

Reah immediately left Orion’s side and walked over to the balcony door. She pushed it open and walked toward the line of sight Lena was holding. She squinted, looking for something strange.

That was when she saw it: a figure in a black cloak standing at the entrance of the forest—the same route to the house Lena had noticed the day they returned to the pack. Reah waved her hand, testing for a reaction, but the figure slowly turned and vanished into the trees.

At that moment, Lena regained her senses, breathing heavily. Reah stepped back inside, glancing at the panting Lena with a questioning gaze before turning to Cain.

“There was someone outside staring toward this place. I can't tell if it saw me or her, but it suddenly vanished."

Cain frowned. “Vanished?" He looked at Lena. “Lena, what did you see this time?"

Lena looked at him, completely dazed. When her eyes finally faded back to normal, she let out a heavy sigh.

“We need to get the corpse of the child Teresa left behind," she said mysteriously. She stood up. “And I... I have to meet that person.”

Cain rose as well. "Who?”

Reah replied before Lena could. "The figure...” She looked at Lena. "Did it say something, or...?"

Lena nodded. “It was asking me to follow it. I have to go."

Cain stared at her for a long time, hoping it was a joke. Finally, he sighed in annoyance. “Andrew, Ashley, ready your horses. We're going back to get the corpse. Lyra, Shayla, Commander Orion, and Vitto—see to it that she goes and returns safely. Please.”

His tone softened at the last word. Orion nodded. “We can't possibly refuse a request like that. We should go while it's still early. Don't worry about Lena; I'll make sure she's safe."

Cain bowed slightly and left the room, followed by Andrew and Ashley. Once they had gone, Shayla pushed away from the pillar and stood beside Lena. She nudged her and whispered, “Another vision?"

Lena looked at the others, who were busy discussing the movement plan. She nodded and whispered back, "Yes. I'll tell you on our way. Promise not to tell anyone until I speak to that person.”

Shayla felt the urge to decline and tell Cain, but she eventually nodded. "Fine. But you tell him when he returns. Stop keeping everything to yourself.”

Lena smiled sweetly. "Alright, let's go.”
