Chapter 190: Teasing
Chapter 190: Teasing
Third person POV
Inside the room, the air conditioning kept everything frozen. Sophie felt cornered, her hands gripped tightly together. She had been brought here against her will, but she later accepted only because she planned to investigation the place for Ace, but the silence and the mystery of the whole place felt like a warning to refrain from any thoughts from the moment she arrived.
She didn't know who owns here or were they came from and how they became powerful. She only knew they were dangerous. From the moment she arrived, she hadn't seen a single person who behaved like a normal human being. It was as if she entered a country where every single human there was in the military.
A sound of a step brought her back to reality. The air in the room didn't just change ever since Jose stepped in, it felt like it vanished. A heavy, magnetic energy flooded the space. Even without wanting to acknowledge it, she knew it was there. The male's eyes felt like they could see through every secret she had ever hidden inside herself.
He began to walk toward her. His footsteps were silent on the floor, but she could track his movement by the way her skin began to prickle. Her body was heating up from the sheer proximity before he even touched her. It was a strange, terrifying sensation, her internal temperature rising as he drew closer, a fever born of pure adrenaline and something else she didn't want to name.
She tried to move. She told her legs to take a step back, to find the door, to run outside, that it will be better outside it will be safer. But her brain was locking up on her. It was as if the wires between her mind and her muscles had been cut. She was paralyzed, her breath coming in low gasps.
Jose stopped just inches away. He was a perfection of a man, his presence swallowing the room. Under the room light, he looked dangerously perfect, sharp, his hair dark and neat, but his eyes were those of a predator.
"You look lost," he whispered. His voice was a low vibration that she felt in her chest more than she heard in her ears.
She wanted to snap back, to use the sharp tongue and strong will that had helped her survive the underworld she and Ace lived in. But looking up at him, her willpower felt like a sand facing a sea wave. He was crafted like a god, every line of his face, the strength in his shoulders, the sheer power radiating off him made it impossible to resist his gravity.
He stepped even closer, invading her personal space until the heat between them was a physical weight. Her heart was racing so fast it felt like a single, continuous hum. She was trapped in the gaze of a man she didn't know, in a country she didn't understand, and the worst part was her own body was betraying her.
She looked at him, her eyes wide and searching, but all she saw was the reflection of her own helplessness. The strong woman she thought she was after all those trainings in Canada had vanished, replaced by someone who could do nothing but wait for his next move.
She close her eyes waiting for the sex god to claim her, secretly she wished it, she anticipated it, but then the door click shut, the sound echoing through the room. Quinn's eyes snap open and she stood there frozen, her chest heaving as she struggled to pull oxygen into her lungs. The air still felt charged, vibrating with the ghost of Jose’s presence. Just moments ago, the space between them had vanished, and the heat radiating from him had been so intense she thought she might actually go up in flames.
She had been certain of what was coming next. Every line of Jose’s body, the dark hunger in his eyes, and the way he had cornered her suggested a total surrender. She had braced herself, her heart hammering a frantic rhythm against her ribs, her mind a chaotic blur of fear and an inexplicable, traitorous longing. Jose was a predator, a man who looked like a dark god carved from the very shadows of the room, and she had felt like prey caught in a golden trap.
But then, he had stopped.
At the very peak of the tension, when the silence was so thick it felt physical, Jose had leaned in. She had felt his breath against her ear, a warm current that made her knees weak. She expected his hands to claim her, to demand the submission his eyes were already taking. Instead, he had simply paused. He stayed there for a long beat, close enough that she could smell the expensive scent of his cologne and his natural manliness scent.
Then, he paused, a man who knew he held all the cards, a man who enjoyed the psychological game just as much as the physical one. He had pulled back just enough to look into her over, his expression one of pure, dark amusement. Without a word, he turned on his heel and walked out, leaving her standing in the middle of the room, trembling and utterly confused.
Quinn sank onto the edge of the oversized bed, her legs finally giving way. "What is happening?" she whispered to the empty room.
She was in Australia, thousands of miles away from everything she knew. She had come here with a purpose inside the plane, lured by her own curiosity. And here she was meeting one of the two men who ruled this territory with fine fists and terrifying beauty. She haven't even been here for long but she was already feeling owned.
She looked around the room. It was beautiful, but to Quinn, it felt like a birdcage. She realized then that the strength she took so much pride after staying in Canada was being tested in a way she wasn't prepared for, infact she wasn't being tested at all, she was being teased, a lamb that can be taking in and ate anytime they want. Jose hadn't used force; he had used his proximity, his looks, and the sheer power of his personality to lock her brain.
The brain lock was the most frustrating part. Quinn have never felt something like this before, she always knows what was happening, to thinking three steps ahead, unless she decides not to do anything about it. But this time she felt frozen entirely. Around Jose, her thoughts turned to slush. Her body reacted before her mind could catch up, heating up and reaching out for a man who was essentially a stranger, a dangerous, powerful stranger.
She stood up and walked to the window. The Australian landscape was vast, much like the men who lived here. She knew Justin was out there somewhere too, the other half of this powerful duo.
Her mind raced through the possibilities. Why had Jose left? Was it a test? A game to see how long she would wait for him? The teasing had been exquisite and cruel. He had pushed her to the very edge of desire and fear, only to pull the rug out from under her. It was a power move, a way to show her that he controlled not just the house and the land, but her own reactions just within days.
Quinn took a deep breath, trying to steady her nerves. She needed to find a way out, or at least a way to regain her footing. She couldn't let herself melt every time one of the twins entered the room. She had to remember why she was here and who she was supposed to be. But as she stared out at the darkening sky, the memory of Jose burned in her mind, and she knew that catching her breath was only the beginning of a very long, very dangerous night. She didn't even know the man's name yet, only hearing from whispers from the people that this whole place was ruled by two indescribably powerful men...
