Chapter 57: A Risky Plan
Miranda
The new house with Richard was a testament to luxury and security. Every corner was watched, but not by choice. My desire to escape, to be free, had led Richard to increase the precautions.
I couldn’t help but feel that everything I had done was in vain, I couldn’t escape with Melany, I couldn’t keep her safe, nor was I close to achieving it, I had a plan and I thought it would work, if it weren’t for that man I shot maybe things would have been different.
Now I have to keep listening to Richard’s sermons.
“You can’t keep trying to escape, Miranda.” He was upset, and his tone reflected the accumulated anger. “Security has been increased, and yet you don’t seem to understand.”
“Richard, I just want to be with my daughter and live my life. Why can’t you understand that?” My voice reflected the frustration and helplessness I felt.
“Because, dear, you have a debt to pay.”
“Being with you should be enough torment.”
“You and Magnus took care of ruining my life and my career, and if that wasn’t enough the bastard took my girlfriend.”
“Our thing was no longer working, you have to acknowledge it.”
“Well, I’ll make it work now,” he looks determined. “And the only way to compensate me for all the mess you made yesterday is for you to spend the night with me and do what I ask without protesting.” His gaze was defiant, and his tone, dominant. “Do it and you can see your daughter.”
Although my desire to resist was strong, the reality was that I was trapped in a dangerous game. I knew that giving in would only feed his control over me, but I also understood that my resistance could have even more serious consequences and, to my misfortune, the affected one would not be me, but my daughter.
“Alright, Richard. But afterwards, I expect you to keep your end of the bargain and let me see Melany.” My voice was trembling, but my determination was intact.
I just wanted to escape, for someone to come for us, being here with this man is a hell I can’t keep living in. Where are you, Magnus?
I knew this would turn into a night that promised to be long and painful. The uncertainty about my fate and Melany’s well-being continued to weigh on my heart as I complied with Richard’s demands to protect what I loved most. The night was a torment, a moment I wished to erase from my mind.
Richard fulfilled his demands with a cruelty disguised as possession, constantly reminding me of my dependence on him. Each moment seemed like an eternity, and my only hope was that this nightmare would end soon.
“You don’t know how much I wanted to have you like this again. Your body seems like it was carved by angels, had they told you that?”
“Just, finish this,” I asked, trying to think of something else, though it seemed impossible.
“But if we’re just starting to have fun, darling, let me enjoy you a little more.”
Between gasps and kisses, the night passed and when it finally dawned, the house was plunged into an uncomfortable silence.
They allowed me to dress and, with meticulous care, they took me to the room where Melany was sleeping. Tenderness flooded my heart as I saw my little angel resting peacefully.
Richard was by my side, watching each of my movements with an intense gaze. A feeling of fear ran through me as I stroked Melany’s cheek.
“Enjoy this moment, Miranda. But remember, any attempt to escape or disobedience will cost you much more than you can imagine.” His words were like a whispered warning in my ear.
I nodded nervously, fearing what could happen if I defied his orders.
“I’m with her now, that’s all I needed.”
“Then make sure you don’t make any mistakes, okay?”
“I won’t go anywhere if that’s what you’re worried about, I just want to be with my little girl.”
I spent the morning with Melany, trying to fill her with love and normality amidst the chaos that surrounded us.
“I’ll get us out of here, Melany, it’s a promise, I’ll keep you away from that man as much as I can.”
She couldn’t understand me, but she gave me the most beautiful smile I’ve ever seen in my life and I understood that I was doing the right thing for her, I didn’t care about the limits I had to cross, if putting a gun in my hand again was what I needed to escape then I will do it, I won’t think twice and I will end whoever wants to separate me from her.
Although Richard allowed me these moments, I knew he was playing with my desperation and vulnerability.
The promise that Melany would pay the consequences of my actions terrified me, so I had to escape as soon as possible and I know someone who could help me, the nanny without a doubt.
Complicity grew in the tense silence of the mansion. Every step was measured, and the nanny and I finally seemed to be reaching an agreement.
“I can’t believe I’m considering this, Miranda. Do you really think this will work?” said the nanny with a mix of fear and determination in her eyes.
Desperation lit up my gaze as I responded urgently:
“We need to find Magnus, not just for my sake, but for Melany’s. He is our only hope and only you are given permission to leave the mansion.”
“Yes, but to do the shopping, they will notice if I take longer than usual.”
“I’ll buy you some time, I swear.” After a moment of reflection, the nanny nodded, trying to understand me in some way.
We both knew this plan was full of risks, but the possibility of giving Melany a normal life drove us to move forward.
“I will do whatever it takes, Miranda, but remember that this can have serious consequences for both of us. Richard will not take this lightly.”
I nodded gratefully, knowing that the nanny was risking a lot by agreeing to be our accomplice. Together we devised a cunning plan, taking advantage of the small opportunities that the routine of the house offered us.
The nanny, with a facade of normality, offered to go out to do the necessary shopping. Behind that facade, she carried with her the hope and purpose of finding Magnus and bringing him back into our lives.
“Please be careful. I don’t know how to thank you for this, but I’m willing to do whatever it takes to get my family back,” I said sincerely, with tears welling up in my eyes.
She left the house, ready to fulfill her part in this risky plan. Meanwhile, I prepared to face what was coming, hoping that this act of bravery would bring us closer to the freedom we so longed for. Now all that remains is to distract Richard.
