Chapter 121
Grey's POV
“Promise me you would bring my daughter back,” Nevada said with swollen eyes.
“I promise, I need you to go inside and rest,” I said, kissing her gently.
A tear dropped from my eye, and I wiped it off.
I dropped Nevada at the house and drove back to the pack. My beta had arrived, and I asked them to find out where Bernadette was and her movements for the day.
My beta was shocked and tried to search through the pack, and we waited in the car till lights out, and the securities went back in before changing into wolf form.
It would be easy for me to pick up scents as a wolf, and I needed to trail Alicia's smell.
“Did you pick anything?” my beta asked, and I growled
I picked up Alicia’s scent in the pack but couldn’t pick anything else. Aside from that, I did not know where else to turn to and didn’t want to risk exposing myself to the security guards. I changed back to my human self and went into the car.
“I’m sorry, I’ve not been able to get any information that can be of help,” my beta apologized
I was scared and bothered; I didn’t know who picked Alicia, but I hoped they would not do anything to harm my daughter.
Everything had been going perfectly until this happened. I had so many suspects in mind but couldn’t act on any without information.
“Have you found out where Bernadette has been today?” I asked
“My source says Bernadette didn’t step out of the house today; I don’t know if she could be a suspect that way,” my beta replied.
“Alright, let me know as soon as you find anything useful,” I said and drove my beta to his house.
“Are you going somewhere?” My beta asked
“Yes, I need to confirm something. Don’t forget to update me regularly on the information you get,” I said, and my beta nodded
“Be careful,” my beta yelled as I drove out
I drove to Bernadette’s house and took a deep breath before knocking on the door.
“Who is there?” Bernadette asked
“Grey,” I stated bluntly
Bernadette opened the door, looking sleepy, and smiled at me.
“Grey, I have missed you,” Bernadette said, trying to hug me, and I pushed her off.
“Can I come in?” I asked, trying to sniff her.
I was going to know if she had made any contact with Alicia by sniffing. Bernadette allowed me into her house happily, and I sat on the couch.
“Do you need me to bring anything? Water?” Bernadette asked with a wide smile.
“Water is fine,” I said
Bernadette entered the kitchen, and I got up from the couch and sniffed everywhere.
“Can I use the bathroom?” I asked
“Of course, go down the hallway, second door to your left,” Bernadette yelled from the kitchen.
I went down the hallway, sniffing everywhere hoping to pick up Alicia’s scent, but I didn’t pick anything. I came back to meet Bernadette, sitting comfortably.
Bernadette was smarter than I thought, and I knew she wouldn’t hide Alicia in her house, but I had hoped she would have the scent no matter how little.
“Where is Alicia?” I blurted out.
“Alicia?” Bernadette asked, looking surprised
“Yes, where is she?” I replied
“Why would I know where Alicia is?” Bernadette replied with a frown.
“Alicia was abducted today at the park, and I can’t help but suspect that you have a hand in it,” I explained, hoping it was truth and Bernadette would confess and hand Alicia over to me.
Bernadette looked shocked as I explained.
“I have no hand in it; why would I do something like that knowing you would fully put me as your prime suspect?” Bernadette asked, folding her arms.
I wasn’t sure if Bernadette lied to me to get out of it or if it was intentional.
“Bernadette, please, if you have Alicia with you, let her go. Alicia has done nothing to deserve any of that,” I pleaded, letting down my pride
Bernadette burst into laughter, and I couldn’t tell if she was mocking me or enjoying how I pleaded.
“At this point, I wish I had a hand in it, but I can assure you that I have not stepped out of my house today and know nothing about Alicia’s disappearance,” Bernadette explained
I stared at Bernadette in disbelief; she sounded convincing, but I felt it was all part of the plan.
“I don’t believe you, Bernadette; I can still remember that you hired somebody to try kidnapping Alicia at a point,” I let out
Bernadette shrugged, refusing to utter a word; I knew she would have information useful in finding Alicia even if she had no hand in it.
“Can you stop attacking me and saying I did something that I did not do? Yes! I tried to hire someone to kidnap Alicia, but did the person get to do it? No,” Bernadette said, and I could see that her expression was starting to change.
“I just need you to be open and honest with me; I won’t take it up with you if you release Alicia to me,” I offered.
“I get that you want me to stop coming to you in hopes that we would get back together, but accusing me of what I know nothing about is a bit extreme,” Bernadette replied.
“Bernadette, Alicia is a young girl and never—
“Get out of my house,” Bernadette said
“Are you asking me to leave your house?” I asked in shock.
“Yes, Grey, leave my house and go make your findings,” Bernadette replied
I knew I couldn’t do anything to Bernadette then, but I intended to ask that they keep an eye on her. I felt she would lead us to where Alicia was being held.
“Think about my offer, Bernadette,” I said and left the house.
I sat down in the car, feeling useless. I had promised Nevada that I would find Alicia, and I was already tired and lost.
My phone began to ring, and I checked to see if it was from Nevada.
“Grey, any news?” Nevada asked, and I could sense the hope in her tone.
I sighed and explained that I hadn’t been able to get any information about Alicia but intended to continue the search.
“I’m sorry,” I apologized
“It’s not your fault, Grey, and I know you would be doing your best,” Nevada said
I could hear the disappointment in her tone, and it hurt me; I was in pain. Alicia had never called me her father, and I had so much that I wanted to do with her.
“I’m sorry,” I said, unable to think of anything.
“Don’t apologize, Grey, just keep looking. I know you are trying your best and will never give up. I spoke to Kai, and he has offered to help with the search,” Nevada explained
I felt relieved that Nevada trusted me to find Alicia but didn’t like that she involved Kai. I knew Kai cared about Alicia but didn’t like that he knew I hadn’t found her yet.
“You informed Kai?” I asked
“Yes, I had no choice. We need as many hands as possible on the search,” Nevada explained
“I understand; I know he cares about Alicia and would do his best,” I replied
“Yes, I can’t seem to sleep Grey. I’m scared,” Nevada let out.
“I know it’s hard to deal with. Have you spoken to Kelly,” I asked
I knew Kelly was going to be having it hard since she was the one who was with Alicia last.
“No, I don’t know what to say,” Nevada replied
“Do you want me to come over?” I asked
“Yes, I don’t mind you coming to keep me company; at least I’ll be able to know what’s going on,” Nevada replied happily.
“I’ll be on my way soon.” I let out and hung up
I called my beta, hoping he would still be awake.
“Alpha,” my beta replied.
“I need you to keep an eye on Bernadette; my mind tells me she is involved in this kidnap,” I explained
“Okay, I’ll ask my men to be on standby,” my best replied
I apologized for taking his time and promised to compensate him afterward. I drove down to Nevada’s house and hesitated before going in.
Kelly sat on the couch looking lifeless, and I had to tap her.
“How did you come in?” Kelly asked, shocked to see me
“The door wasn’t locked, and I kept knocking without getting any response and had to check if everyone was fine,” I explained
“I’m sorry, I didn’t hear you knock,” Kelly apologized.
I shook my head, explaining that it was fine; I knew Kelly was destabilized because of the incident and could not blame her for getting carried away.
“It’s fine, Kelly; I want you to understand that none of this is your fault.” I calmly said
Kelly sniffed back tears, and Nevada came out.
