Chapter 132

After the announcement was passed, Veronica and her parents began to discuss, catching up on a lot of things they had missed about each other.

“I have a question though.” Luna Isabella suddenly said, and paused.

“What is it?” Veronica inquired gently.

“Why did you change your hair color?” She asked her.

Veronica sighed, and answered, “Well, I just did it to look different. I wanted a change.”

“You know, a lot happened in the last pack I lived in.” She said, trying to force a smile.

“Care to let us in on it?” Alpha Charles asked, and Veronica sighed deeply.

Seeing how hesitant she was, he quickly said, “It's okay if you still don't want to talk about it. We promise, we won't be pushy. We won't force you.” “Right?” He asked, turning to his wife.

“Yes. Please, take all the time you need. We promise not to ask you about it if you don't want to talk about it.” Her mother affirmed, nodding her head.

“No, it's fine.” Veronica said, respectfully interrupting her mother. “I want to talk about it. Just give me a few seconds to put my thoughts together.” She added, and took a deep breath.

She then breathed out slowly, and shakily through her mouth, while her parents stared at her, not saying anything, giving her enough time to think about what she wanted to say.

Veronica began. “I had a friend that I trusted so much. I thought we were on the same page. I thought she saw me as a friend too, but I was completely wrong. She betrayed me, and accused me of murdering someone who tried to take advantage of me.” She narrated painfully.

“What!” Her parents exclaimed, unable to believe their ears.

“That wasn't all. One day, she offered to teach me how to drive, and unfortunately, the car lost control and we got into a serious accident that almost claimed our lives. I got out unscathed, even though I don't know how that was possible.” She continued and stopped for a short moment.

She continued again, her eyes welling up with years. “But Megan, on the other hand, became unconscious and had a broken arm. I was taken away to be punished because they all blamed me for what happened.”

“The most shocking part of it which still shocks me till this moment is that the moment Megan woke up, she came to the Alpha and told the whole council that I was the one who intentionally crashed the car after telling her to teach me how to drive.”

“She also said I killed that person and threatened her not to tell anyone. .” As she narrated all that happened, her tears couldn't stop flowing. Her heart shattered into pieces once again as she kept talking about it.

“That's why I'm really scared that tragedies might begin to befall this pack now that I'm here. I'm scared because I'm carrying a curse. I think that sorceress must have placed a curse on me.” She said shakily.

“No, don't say that!” Her mum cautioned her, gently tightening her hand in hers. “Never say a thing like that.” She repeated.

“Look at me.” She gently pulled Veronica’s face. “You deserve nothing but the best. You are beautiful, and you have a beautiful heart too. Don't see yourself as a curse, because you aren't.” She encouraged her.

Luna Isabella then sighed, and took a quick look at her husband, who nodded slowly.

“There is something you need to know.” She said, and Veronica’s teary eyes darted from her father, and back to her mother.

“What is it?” Veronica asked her.

“You see, in our lineage, as silver wolves, there is something really significant. We as silver wolves don't leave our pack, except in a case where a female silver wolf gets married and moves to another pack. Aside from this reason, if a silver wolf moves to another pack all of a sudden for no genuine reason and stays there, the pack will begin to experience tragedy until the wolf leaves, and goes back to where they should really be.” She explained carefully, while Veronica listened with rapt attention.

“Oh, so that's why…” Veronica muttered as realization hit her.

“Yes, exactly. That's why all the packs you’ve lived in kept on experiencing mishaps from time to time.” Her mum confirmed.

“So you see that you're not cursed. You're just a SILVER WOLF who was taken away from her rightful place.” Her father chipped in.

“Yes, you're not weak, you're not cursed. You have the power of the SILVER WOLF inside of you.” Her mother gently poked her chest with her fingers, reaffirming her father's words.

Veronica took a moment to put herself together. “I can't believe I've been thinking I was cursed all these years, not knowing that I was only suffering for being taken away from my rightful place, ” She said as she finally spoke, tears still rolling down her cheeks.

“It's okay. Please don't cry anymore. You've cried a lot today already.” Luna Isabella said, worriedly.

They gave Veronica a moment to calm down before their conversation continued.

“So do you mean you didn't make any friends in the packs you've lived in aside Megan?” Her mother asked, quite concerned.

“Actually, I did.” Veronica replied, sniffling.

Her mother handed her a clean towel, which she wiped her tears with.

“I made friends in my first Pack, but my best friend passed away unfortunately. Then in the second pack, I made friends too, even though one of them was the one who turned her back on me, and betrayed me.” She rolled her eyes.

“There was Scott, a young boy. He was my first friend actually, because we met under unusual circumstances. He was lost, and I was alone, wandering in the forest. I found him, or should I say we found each other?” She chuckled, and paused for a little while.

“He was a very sweet boy, and I miss him so much right now. I saved his life, and he saved mine too.” She said, her eyes getting teary.

“Then I met Steve,” She paused, and smiled. “He found me when I was lost, took me to his pack, and hid me in his house without anyone's knowledge. He was the son of the Alpha of that pack and he was very kind too.” She spoke so highly of Steve.

She paused and took in a sharp breath. “But he said he really liked me.” She said shyly, and glanced at her parents, who were trying as much as they could not to chuckle.

Veronica raised an eyebrow. “Really? Are you guys trying to pretend not to laugh right now?” She asked, and they faked a straight face.

“I'm sorry. It's just that you seem to like this Steve of a guy.” Luna Isabella commented, still trying not to react.

“Oh, I do. I like him.” Veronica replied, affirmatively.

“Oh wow...” Her mum dragged, teasing her. “I never knew a time would come when I would be talking about a male with my daughter.” She said jokingly, and her husband smiled.

“So you really like him.” She winked at Veronica, who immediately got what her mum was implying.

“Oh, no, please. I don't like him like that.” Veronica dismissed, shaking her head.

“Really?” Her mum winked teasingly again.

“I'm serious. I don't like him the way you think I do. He just seemed like a big brother who kept looking out for me. That's what I like about him. I don't see us being romantically involved.” She explained to them, her voice firm and clear.

“Although, at some point, I thought I was beginning to feel something for him, but thinking about it now, I realized that I just loved the fact that he was looking out for me, and was always there for me, and the fact that he would always go the extra mile to save me countless times. I think that was it. It wasn't because I wanted to be with him.” She explained further, gesticulating as she spoke.

“But why don't you like him?” Her mum asked, “you clearly said he told you he liked you.” She added, but Veronica didn't respond.

“Or Is there someone else?” She pressed, staring intently at Veronica

“No. There is no one else.” Veronica answered sharply, her hand gently rubbing her wrist, where her bracelet rested, years ago.

“Okay, if you say so. But I'm glad that you at least made friends. Friends who were there when you needed them, and friends who made things easy for you.” She said, rubbing Veronica’s hair, gently.

“That reminds me. What is the name of your previous pack?” Her father suddenly asked her.

“Fire Dawn Pack.” Veronica revealed, and her parents exchanged shocked glances.

“Wait, did you just say Fire Dawn Pack?” Her father asked, completely shocked.
