Chapter 126

Hearing her, they all exchanged surprised glances.

“It's still very risky. You can't just go.” The doctor insisted, refusing to let her go anywhere.

“But I need to.” She insisted, struggling to get up from the bed.

“Why not tell me what really happened and I promise you, I'll call the Alpha, or better still, I'll go to the palace, and tell him everything.” Beta Richard suggested, but she blatantly refused.

“I have to see him myself. It's a matter of life and death!” She suddenly yelled, and the whole room was thrown into a deafening silence.

“Megan? Death? Who is dying?” Her father asked, breaking the silence, but she refused to say anything.

“I have to go!” She said firmly, with a determined expression.

She had a mission and she was not ready to back down. This was the perfect opportunity to put Veronica where she belonged. The perfect opportunity which she had been waiting for for the longest time, and she was not ready to let it slip off her hands just like that.

“She insists on going, doctor. What do we do?” He asked, worried for his daughter.

“Okay, this is what we will do. An ambulance and a nurse will go with her in case there will be any need for a sudden treatment, but as soon as she is done, she MUST come back to the hospital. We can't take any chances.” The doctor gave a wise suggestion, and they all nodded in agreement.

“That's perfect. Thank you so much, doctor.” Beta Richard said in appreciation.

Before they could say anything further, Megan pulled off every line attached to her body, sprung to her feet and headed for the door, while her father and the others rushed after her.

“Be careful, Megan. Your arm is still not healed yet.” Her father shouted behind her, but that didn't stop her.

They finally arrived at the palace court, where the councillors had gathered again that morning, with Veronica still in the blood-stained clothes she wore since the accident the previous day.

Steve, who had also arrived back at the pack early that morning, was also present, pacing impatiently.

Even Beta Lily was there too. She couldn't just sit at home to wait for the outcome of the meeting. She already blamed herself for allowing Veronica to leave the house, when she had initially said she didn't want to. Now staying at home to know the fate of the young girl’s fate would be too much torture. Scott wouldn't even make it easy at all. He will just keep pestering her until she got frustrated.

“Megan?” Alpha Marcus, surprised to see her, called her name. “How are you feeling now?”

Seeing her, Veronica gladly rushed to embrace her. “Oh my goodness. I'm so glad you're fine. I've been so worried about—”

“Get your filthy hands off me, you murderer!” Megan yelled, angrily shoving Veronica aside.

Shocked, the whole room glanced at each other, confused.

“What do you mean, Megan?” Alpha Marcus asked, looking surprised. It wasn't just him who was surprised, Beta Richard, Beta Lily and Steve were also shocked beyond words.

“She tried to kill me, Alpha. She wanted me dead! She said she was going to kill me!” Megan screamed at the top of her lungs, causing an uproar in the palace court.

“She said it to my face, and intentionally swerved the car off the road. She had plans to kill me!” She screamed like a lunatic.

Veronica’s jaw dropped in shock. “What!” She exclaimed, shaking her head.

“That's completely preposterous!” Steve yelled, refusing to believe what his best friend was saying.

“I knew it.” Councillor Seth muttered to himself.

“Megan, you know that's not true. Please tell them the truth. We both know that's not what really happened. It was an accident. I told you the brakes weren't working anymore. We both saw it. Why would I try to kill you when you've done nothing to—” Veronica pleaded, weeping profusely.

“Liar!” Megan slapped Veronica hard across the face, shocking everyone in the room. “Weren't you the one who suddenly asked me to teach you how to drive? I can't believe you had bad intentions towards me the whole time.” She said, and Veronica couldn't believe her ears. Her eyes widened in shock.

“No, that's not true, Megan. You know that's a lie. I don't know why you're doing this.” Veronica cried, gently grabbing Megan's uninjured arm.

“Get your filthy hands off me! Are you trying to break this arm too?” Megan pushed her away, and Veronica staggered, but was quick to find her footing.

“Megan!” Steve tried to call her to order, but she refused to answer him, and continued to accuse Veronica.

“Are you trying to say I'm lying? You almost killed me and you have the guts to say I'm lying?” She raised her hand once again and before anyone could stop her, she slapped Veronica across the face with a loud crack, harder than before.

Veronica’s head snapped to the side, as she stumbled backwards, and fell to the ground, clutching her cheek.

The sound of the slap echoed through the room, leaving an uncomfortable silence as everyone watched in further shock, but no one except Steve, made an attempt to stop her.

“Megan!” Steve yelled at her, and immediately rushed to hold her back from hurting Veronica any further. He couldn't deny the fact that he was completely shocked at what she had just done.

“What is it?!” She snapped at him. “Get your hands off me.” She snatched her arm from his. “You're just blinded and fooled by her outer appearance that you can't see what kind of filthy pretender she is!”

“Megan, where is all of this coming from? I thought you both were good friends.” Beta Lily had to speak up, because she was unable to believe what was going on.

She couldn't believe the monster Megan had suddenly turned into in just the twinkling of an eye.

“Friends?” Megan snickered. “She lost that title the day she murdered Trey in cold blood, and threatened me not to speak a word about it to anyone.” She spat with venom, and the whole room erupted into shocking murmurs.

“MEGAN!” Veronica exclaimed in shock. “But that's not true.”

“Alpha, I swear by the moon goddess. I didn't do it.” She cried out to Alpha Marcus and everyone who cared to listen to her.

“Enough of swearing by the moon goddess, else she'll strike you dead this instant!” Megan said again, throwing everyone into further shock. “I think that would even be better since you tried to kill me like you killed Trey.” She added.

“What did I ever do to you?” Veronica cried weakly, as her strength began to deplete.

If anyone had told her that Megan was going to turn against her, she wouldn't have believed.

“That…. that doesn't make any sense.” Steve suddenly said. “We all saw the video of what happened, and you, Megan, you were with me on that day, so how can you say she threatened you not to say anything? Your story doesn't add up, and I'll advise that you behave yourself and stop spreading false information.”

“Just look at you. What do you know?” Megan hissed. “Did you think he just died when we found him?” She asked and everyone exchanged surprised, and confused glances.

“He had been dead, hours before. I saw it when it happened, and after she threatened me, she ran away.” Megan explained confidently, and if Steve didn't suspect her of foul play, he would have been fooled too.

Steve looked around, and realized that they all had begun to tilt in Megan's direction, believing all she said, hook, line and sinker.

“No no… Don't tell me that you all are believing what Megan just said.

“And why shouldn't we believe?” Councillor Seth asked, with raised eyebrows. “Megan is one of us and she has been in this pack since she was born, so what are you saying? Are you saying that we should believe someone who just came here a little over a year ago as opposed to our own?” He queried Steve.

“Well, she just left the hospital, maybe she needs to be checked to be sure she is fine because I don't think she is. No one in their right senses will spew all that nonsense for their mouth like Megan just did.” Steve said angrily.

“Silence, Steve!” Councillor Maxwell yelled at him. “Are you trying to say my daughter is crazy?” He asked, his voice laced with anger.

“I never said that. I’m only saying that there is a probability that she might be saying incoherent things due to the accident. Can't you see she has an injury on her head too?” Steve pointed out, his brows furrowed.

“Cut it out, Steve. You know I'm fine. You're just trying to defend her.” Megan said, rolling her eyes at him.

Deep down, she was angry that despite everything she had said about Veronica, he was still defending her.

“Megan sounds perfectly fine to me though. I don't think there is anything wrong with her or what she has said so far, because I believe her.” Councillor Seth said, and the others nodded in agreement.

“Silence everyone!” Alpha Marcus shouted out loud, and they all kept quiet.

“Father, I don't think you should listen to them. Veronica is clearly innocent. Megan is just delusional.” Steve stared at Megan with disgust, but she didn't care.

“And do you have any evidence to prove that she is innocent this time around?” Alpha Marcus asked him, but Steve had no response, because he truly had no evidence to back up his claim.

“That's exactly what I thought.” Alpha Marcus muttered.

He then turned to the rest of the council, “With everything that has been happening recently, I think I've had enough.”

He glared at Veronica, “And to think that after accepting you and giving you a roof over your head, you still attempted to kill one of our own. I'm so disappointed, and I blame myself for allowing you stay here in the first place.” Alpha Marcus said, and from his tone, it was obvious that he was totally done with Veronica and every problem attached to her.

“I swear, I didn't do anything. Please.” Veronica pleaded like her life depended on it, because it actually did.

Steve tried to go to her, but the next words his father said made him freeze in one spot.

“The moment you take another step and say another word before this meeting ends, I'm going to disown you, and I will send you out of this pack with immediate effect.” Alpha Marcus threatened, his voice as cold as ice, and his eyes blazing with rage.

“And I'm not just talking about Steve, but any other person who speaks in favour of the girl.” He added, and Beta Richard and Lily exchanged glances.

That didn't need a soothsayer to tell them that Alpha Marcus was indirectly referring to them.

Everyone present in the room was shocked, their jaws dropped because they had never heard the Alpha say such a thing. Even though he and Steve were always at loggerheads most of the time, he had never threatened anyone in such a manner.

Steve turned to Beta Richard, who immediately shook his head, telling him not to go near Veronica because it was a lost cause.

Seeing as he had Steve under control, Alpha Marcus turned back to Veronica. “I've been trying not to think too much about the fact that ever since you stepped into this pack, it's been from one problem to the other, but this one is the last straw that breaks the camel's back.”

“I no longer want you in this pack. Your presence is terribly choking us! This is my judgement— You are hereby BANISHED.” Alpha Marcus declared and the room just remained silent, although Veronica could see the joy in the eyes of a good number of them.

“Guards!!! Throw her out of here.” Alpha Marcus ordered, and immediately left the court, into his inner chamber.

“Perfect! Now let's see how you would have feelings for each other when she is banished out of this pack.” Megan thought to herself, glad that she had finally gotten what she wanted. “Good riddance.”

She watched as Veronica was roughly dragged out of the palace, with a weird smile plastered on her face, which Steve, although being held back by his father's words, noticed.

“If you are found anywhere close to this pack, you'll be treated like a traitor and an intruder, and you will be immediately killed like one.” The head of the guards warned her sternly before she was roughly pushed far away from the pack.

And once again, she was homeless and packless. Alone in the hostile world.
