Chapter 30
"Kev?" Claire whispered in a fear-stricken tone, but I cared less.
"Who are you?"
"Who am I?!" I blurted in disgust with a ferocious frown complementing my face.
"I am that boy, who you killed his Father!" I barked while I took stealthy steps towards him. "I am that young boy who transformed into a wolf the moment he watched his Father die from your blades!"
"Stay back!" His right-hand man ordered but instead, my eyes morphed into a threatening sparkling red. Claws extended from my fingers.
"Guards!" His left-hand man roared, he had sheer resemblance with the Lycan. Enough to inform me this was Blake. The doors flew open and immediately, Guards encircled about me, flashing their golden yellow. But I cared less, I wasn't even bothered about the shock expressed on Claire's face. My full focus was on the Lycan himself. Who stood rigidly calm, his eyes mirroring the redness of my eyes. He remembered but that wasn't the only thing, he kept on holding my gaze as if he were puzzled by the fact I was the new special wolf in town.
"Kev!" She whispered again, clinging unto her Father's arm with tears soaking her eyes. Rather than melt, my rage only dosed. I planned to march towards them, but the guards held me back. And on that note, without further thinking, I turned down my morality. The first werewolf to hold me back had his head welcomed with one powerful blow causing him to this to the ground. The others briskly pounced on me, but I struggled free from their hold, ripping their skins my eyes could land on.
Blood spluttered across my face, but it only made Lupus and I thirst for more. As more guards began to trot into the building, in efforts to protect their Lycan, they fell by my hands. I was limitless, I was invisible and for the first time, I appreciated this gift of mine so much. Scores whimpered and groaned on the grounds, in their own pool of blood. Unfortunately, it didn't satisfy my rage, the Lycan was still breathing. His death was my only solution.
And when no one came in further, I finally turned to the Lycan and his family, who all remained grounded like statues. Petrified by the gory mess I made. I stood proud with my clothes tattered and imprinted with stains of fresh blood. My hair had already fallen into a mess, drooling droplets of blood across my face.
I marched slowly towards them while Claire disentangled from her father, trailing towards me in the same mannerism.
"Kevin, please stop." She pleaded in the softest voice as tears streamed across her cheeks. But those words weren't enough. We finally stood in front of each other, but I didn't dare look at her face even when she was holding mine. My gaze was solely on the Lycan while the remaining two men took protective stance beside him.
"Get out of my way." I bellowed in the iciest manner my chords could orchestrate. She remained adamant, holding my wrist in a shaky manner but not even those sparks were going to stop me.
"Claire I don't wanna hurt you, get out of my way."
"But he's my Father." She whispered; her tone alone expressed how broken she was. The immeasurable pain we were currently going through.
My teary red eyes fell on her.
"This pathetic old scum bag killed my Father. He murdered my world!" I muttered in mild irritation.
"K-Kev." That was all she could say but I wriggled free from her touch. "Are you going to kill him then?"
My eyes returned to the Lycan and all I could see was that moment again. How he stabbed my father with his sword. And in oblivion, I gently pushed my mate aside. The Lycan's right hand man came trotting towards me but just one blow across his gut made him made him crash to the neighboring wall unconscious.
Blake came next who reeked of nothing but pathetic weakness. I briskly held him by his neck, raised him above the ground before smashing his back to the ground. The building quaked and the grounds shattered while he coughed out blood. Unable to move his body. I stood face to face with my Father's murderer and as I made to grab his collar, Claire embraced me from behind. Tight but gentle. Her warm tears gracing my back.
"Please Kev." She begged while exciting sparks toured across my body. "Don't do it."
I struggled but she persisted. If I wanted, I could have thrown her off, but I wouldn't dare do that to my mate. No matter how angry I was, I would never hit her.
"Alpha Mason was a great man." The Lycan finally said, his countenance carried great worry and a sad smile.
"Shut up!" I growled.
He heaved a heavy sigh.
"The Moon goddess must love you so much to have mated you with my daughter." He mumbled but his words only irritated me further. Thanks to my mate, I would have ripped his throat out.
"I said shut up!" I ordered again.
"As you wish, Wolf of Justice." He answered while he inched closer to me. To be honest if we went head-to-head I would end up dead. I might be the Wolf of Justice but the Lycan will still triumph. He was nothing less than a millennial year-old wolf. His experience and raw wisdom far overshadow me.
"Why?" I asked after several minutes of deliberation. "My Father was innocent; he would never dream of hurting anyone or even committing a crime but yet you executed him publicly." I muttered while tears trickled across my cheeks. I stopped struggling against Claire's grip, perhaps due to our mate bond.
"Trust me, Kevin. It wasn't a moment I am proud of." He muttered with sincerity blooming in his tone, but I didn't want to believe. I didn't want to be this calm, I wanted his head off his body, but Claire wouldn't let me.
"Why?" I asked as another warm tear graced my cheek. "Why did you kill him?"
He heaved another sigh and for the first time, his gaze peeled off mine. In those blue eyes, faint pain dawned, and it confused me.
"Talk before I snap your head!" I roared as another tear trickled.
"Kevin please." Claire whispered behind me but how could I be calm? For twenty years I had been kept in the dark regarding my Father's death. And now that I could get the answer from the horse's mouth, nothing came forth.
"Talk!" I barked again and this time I grabbed his collar, breathing hard against his face. But he didn't waiver, he only wanted me to vent my anger and pain.
"Talk you bastard!!" I ordered whilst the tears flowed again, my eyes still gleaming its red.
"Talk!" I squeezed his shirt harder.
"Kevin let go of Isaac!" A voice ordered and I gasped. It wasn't Claire's but it was overly familiar. That fine silky voice belonged to my mother. I couldn't help but turn towards the door side while Claire relieved me off her embrace. And there she was, her eyes hinting traces of tears alongside Gabriel, Uncle Walker and Aunt Flora. All of them rewarding me with compassionate looks. It only confused me for I couldn't find an exact reason why they were here.
"Please, let go of the Lycan." This time it was in a pleading fashion as she strode towards us.
"H-he killed Father!" I blared in a stutter.
"And it was a mistake." Aunt Flora chorused as she walked amidst injured men wincing in pain alongside my mother.
I frowned. What did she mean by a mistake? From the way she sounded, it looked like she's recalled her memories. Her eyes clearly told of truth I definitely didn't want to hear but I listened regardless. Still holding the Lycan while they stopped inches away from me.
"Twenty years ago, We lost the Luna of Lunas to the cold hands of death." Aunt Flora started. "Luna Elsa, The Lycan's mate."
My eyes briefly reviewed Claire, who was rigidly consumed in more shock. She had once told me, her father never told her what caused her death. And now we were about to find out, I dearly hoped it wasn't connected to my Father.
"She died in Greenville. Her Pack."
My eyes widened and my lips parted for chill air to escape. My heart started to pick pace as my grip gradually reduced from the Lycan's collar.
"Alpha Jason and Luna Elsa were friends from childhood. Everyone had thought they would be mates in the near future until one day when he met me." She pursed her lips while she fought back those tears.
"It changed everything between them and not long after, Elsa found her mate. The Lycan." My eyes twitched as I gradually digested those words in.
"Jason never loved me or maybe he did at one point, but his heart clearly belonged to someone else. Elsa had moved on but he," she paused while her hands clenched into a fist. "He craved her. More than his mate. And one day, Greenville was hosting its annual Inter Pack Competition. Elsa graced the occasion but your father," I swallowed the saliva in my throat, my body quivering.
"He pleaded with her to stay the night. He wanted a friendly gathering for the night, but Jason had other sinister plans." She paused again.
"That night, your Father had gone to do some important work at the competition's venue. Nobody was in the Pack House except the two of them. Jason and Elsa. And along the line, I had to return to Pack House. He tried to force himself on her and no matter what I did to stop him, he was too powerful for the both of us. By mistake, she slipped." She pursed her lips while a tear gently toured her cheek. "His knife went straight to her heart."
I gasped. I couldn't even find courage to glance at the Lycan or my mate. Even though the atmosphere was warm I could feel cold storming my body.
"To save himself from his atrocious act, he had to cast me away. He couldn't muster the courage to kill me but rather he locked me in bondage far away from Greenville. Unfortunately, I couldn't escape until few days ago."
"Your Father took the blame Kevin." My mother interjected softly, tears already touring across her cheeks freely.
"He blamed himself for her death even though he never knew his stepbrother did it or maybe he did. He thought, if he hadn't forced her to stay, perhaps she wouldn't have met such horrible end."
"And then the Lycan came," Uncle Walker voiced from the door side, slowly pacing amidst the blood and agony. "He acted on instincts and ended your Father."
My eyes reverted back to its Hazel and my hands dropped from the Lycan's collar as I sat on the floor, hopelessly. This was the truth; my father had sacrificed his life out of his innocence. I didn't even know how to feel, all the rage welled up in me had vanished except pain. Pain that burned like brimstone fire in my soul.
"My father wasn't a traitor after all." I whispered to myself, reminiscing on the disgrace and discrimination I had faced all because of my Father's innocence.
"Few hours after you two had left, that was when I recalled everything. At that same time, Gabriel was going through some files for Greenville High and that's when we found out, Claire is the Lycan's daughter."
"That was why we had to rush here, to save you from doing the unthinkable." Gabriel added but I smiled sadly at the floor.
They stared at me in silence for minutes until my lips finally parted but nothing came forth. I only staggered to a stance, wobbling towards the door. That perhaps, the light beyond would at least comfort my soul.
And as I eased through those doors, I knew one thing.
It was over.
