Betrayed
As his Beta snarled and yanked the doors open, Aiden ran his fingers through his hair in frustration.
"L-luna!" As Nicholas's voice trembled, Aiden's eyes widened in massive shock. When he turned his head towards the door, he was met with the haunting distraught hazels staring back at him. His mouth dropped open as dread captivated him.
"Sera!" He breathed out. She shifted her gaze away from him and toward Nicholas. She handed him the tray.
"Nicholas, you are a man of honor. I value your candor and concern!" Her voice was trembling as she spoke those words.
"Luna...!" Nicholas came to a halt as she raised her palm.
"Please leave us alone. I'd like to say a word with your Alpha." Nicholas bowed his head and blinked his eyes open and shut. With a look at his Alpha and Luna, he left with the tray of food.
Aiden was standing holding his breath for the wrath the demon was to unleash but she only stared at him. After a while, her head dropped,
"Is it true, Aiden?" She asked
"S-seraphina!" He took a few desperate steps towards her.
"Is it true that you have another female in the infirmary?" She inquired, but he remained silent, his fists hardening.
"Please don't feed me any more lies." She implored and his eyes shut closed.
"Yes!" His words pierced the depths of her heart, as her hands clutched her chest tightly.
"Amongst all the people, I was yet again betrayed by the male I was growing to trust." With a quivering voice, she said as she lifted her head. A single tear fell from her eye, and his hands yearned to rush to her and wipe it away, to pull her close and comfort her, but his legs seemed to be stoned to the floor.
"You bring another female in and spend your time with her while I wait for you in the cold bed, basking in your scent. Even after I am here you believe that female is your mate! You promised to be truthful, Aiden. Remember? You promised to be faithful to me!" He stood frozen in place, unable to think of his next words. He gathered his thoughts and began speaking slowly. There was no point in hiding or remaining silent any longer.
"She was severely injured, and I had brought her to the infirmary. I had no intention of concealing or lying to you. "But, I wasn't sure how I was going to tell you this." He paused and she grew angst of his next words.
"I had felt the pull to her the moment I found her near the river, the same attraction I feel towards you. The last thing she said before closing her eyes was 'mate'. I thought I'd figure out if she was lying if I spent time with her, while a witch worked to uncover her truth, but..." He paused once more, and she knew what he was going to say.
"But it turns out she wasn't lying," she said, and he lowered his eyes to the floor. His silence broke her heart into millions of tiny pieces.
"Perhaps I'm the one defrauding the bond we share!" She barely uttered as her horrified eyes flickered.
"Seraphina!" He called her name but she didn't listen.
She turned around as his legs finally obeyed his brain's command and rushed to her. He caught up to her and seized her shoulder as she took a step towards the hallway.
"Please, Seraphina, don't..."
Her eyes widened in shock as his breath hitched and he snatched his arm away. She turned around, gasping, as he stumbled to his feet, and tears streamed down her stupefied eyes. His mouth opened and closed like a thirsty fish, but not a single word came out of his mouth. They stared at each other with tormented eyes as they realized it was gone. The agony of something tearing their soul apart scattered throughout their body. It was as if someone had yanked out the bond that had been forcefully threaded to their soul. The spark that they felt every time they were close, every time they touched each other, had faded away! The desire to be in each other's warmth had died down. Seraphina's beasts drew itself back into the depths of her barriers as she stared at Aiden, who was standing with the support of the wall like stone statues. She turned around and with trembling steps she carried herself to the castle while all Aiden could do was stare at her drifting away helplessly.
She only realise the rain is cold because her skin carries the heat of her blood, as her inner fires burned strong. And as she strides forward, her eyes are drenched with saline water which has now melded with the millions of raindrops that have fallen on her skin. Killing the fire inside her and releasing the pool of tears that had been stored and kept out of her reach for years. As the pack members hurried inside the packhouse, she continued to drag herself towards the castle. Everything was blurry as her mind couldn't focus on anything other than the pain that assaulted her wounded heart.
As she entered the castle, her blurred vision only caught a glimpse of her grandfather yelling at Nicholas, who stood there with his head bowed. Hilda was also present, her eyes tense and fixed on her mate. Emmerich's gaze was drawn to Seraphina as she dragged her drenched body to the stairs. No matter how vociferously he howled her name, it all fell on deaf ears. How could anyone possibly express the pain of betrayal in words, and how could she ever bring her heart to trust or love anyone again after this? Only one chance, she only sought one chance to feel the warmth in her soul, the spark that lasts and urges her to live, to wake up every day. It was now gone, all gone.
As if her hands had a mind of their own, they began picking up all of her belongings the moment she entered the room they shared. Not a single second she sought to spend here. Not in the place she had first met him, held him close, in the place her heart had bared itself to him. His scent lingered heavily in this place, in the memories they had created here. It will only hurt a little too much for every second she delays her stay. Her hurt bleed even more as the images of that female in the bed he kept her warm through the nightmares played. She would soon replace every touch, warmth, and memory they had. He would be someone else's.
*But he wasn't your's, to begin with, he always belonged to someone else.* The voice in her mind said and her eyes shut agonizingly.
She breathed out as she closed the bag and dragged herself downstairs where the demon awaited her.
"Take me to Drinealia!"
