Chapter 145 Alpha vs Alpha
Chapter 145 Alpha vs Alpha
Ronan POV
The moment Darius stepped fully into the courtyard, the air changed.
Not heavy like the hybrid’s storm. It was sharp, controlled and dominant.
Ascendant soldiers pulled back instantly, forming a wide circle. Even our fighters hesitated. You could feel it, the instinctive Alpha response to something stronger.
I stepped forward before anyone else could.
“Ronan,” Elias said quietly behind me.
I didn’t look back. If I did, I might hesitate.
“I’ve got this,” I told him.
Darius stopped a few meters away, boots crunching over shattered stone. His gaze locked onto mine, not as commander to opponent.
As father to son.
“You’ve grown,” he said calmly.
“Don’t,” I replied. “You don’t get to talk like that.”
A faint smile tugged at his mouth. “Still emotional.”
“And you’re still hiding behind control.”
His eyes darkened slightly.
“I’m not hiding,” he said. “I’m leading.”
“By slaughtering your own people?”
“I am securing the future.”
“You’re destroying it.”
Silence stretched between us, tension coiling tight. Behind me, I could feel Elias’s presence, steady, burning, trusting. And that trust lit something fierce inside my chest.
“I won’t let you touch him,” I said quietly.
Darius tilted his head. “You think this is about touching him?”
“It’s always been about control with you.”
“For you,” he corrected. “It was about strength.”
Then he moved. There was no warning, no countdown. He crossed the distance in a blink.
I barely got my guard up in time to block his first strike. The impact shot through my bones. He wasn’t just strong, he was precise. Calculated.
I countered immediately, driving my fist toward his ribs.
He deflected smoothly.
“You’ve improved,” he admitted as we separated briefly.
“Shut up,” I snapped and lunged again.
We clashed in the center of the courtyard, Alpha against Alpha. Every strike echoed. Every block sent shockwaves through the cracked stone beneath us.
He aimed high. I ducked and swept low.
He pivoted, grabbed my shoulder, and tried to throw me. I twisted midair and landed on my feet.
The circle around us widened.
“Your technique is reactive,” Darius said as we circled. “You still fight emotionally.”
“I fight for someone,” I shot back.
“That is weakness.”
“No,” I said. “That’s why I win.”
He attacked again, faster this time. I met him head-on. Our fists collided midair. The force sent a visible ripple through the dust around us.
Our pheromones flared instinctively, Alpha dominance clashing violently. His was cold and controlled.
Mine burned.
“You’re letting him influence you,” Darius said through clenched teeth as we locked arms.
“I want him influencing me.”
His grip tightened. “You’ve bound yourself to an Omega beyond your rank.”
“He’s not below me.”
“He is.”
“He’s my equal.”
For the first time, something flickered in his eyes. Which was anger.
He shoved me back hard. I skidded several feet before regaining balance.
“Equality is a fantasy,” he said sharply. “Hierarchy is survival.”
“Hierarchy is fear,” I replied.
He came at me again. This time he released his full pheromonal pressure. It hit like a blade, sharp, invasive, commanding. A lesser Alpha would’ve dropped instantly.
My knees bent slightly. But I didn’t fall.
Behind me, I felt Elias. He wasn’t pushing, not overwhelming. He was supporting.
His pheromones brushed against mine, warm, steady, grounding. I inhaled deeply. And stood tall.
Darius’s eyes narrowed. “You are using him as a crutch.”
“No,” I said. “I’m standing with him.”
I surged forward, breaking through his pressure and driving my fist into his jaw. He staggered a step.
Gasps rippled through both sides.
I pressed the advantage, three rapid strikes. He blocked two. The third grazed his cheek.
A thin line of blood appeared.
He touched it slowly. Then smiled.
“You finally fight like my son.”
“I fight like myself.”
He moved again, faster than before. Our bodies collided in a brutal exchange of blows. Elbow to ribs. Knee to thigh. Fist to shoulder.
Pain flared, but I ignored it. I couldn’t lose. Not with Elias watching. Not with him trusting me.
I caught Darius’s arm and twisted, slamming him into a broken pillar. Stone cracked behind him.
“End this,” I said through heavy breaths. “Call them off.”
He laughed softly.
“You think this ends with surrender?”
“It ends with you stepping down.”
“It ends with power,” he corrected.
He headbutted me suddenly. Stars exploded in my vision.
Before I could recover, he drove his knee into my abdomen. Air rushed out of my lungs.
I staggered back.
He didn’t give me time to breathe. His fist slammed into my side, right where the hybrid had struck earlier.
Pain exploded through my ribs.
“Ronan!” Elias’s voice cut through everything.
I straightened despite the burning in my chest.
“I’m fine!” I shouted back, even though I wasn’t.
Darius studied me carefully.
“You’re protecting him,” he said quietly.
“Yes.”
“You would die for him.”
“If I have to.”
“And what does he give you in return?” Darius asked, circling slowly. “Devotion? Scent? Emotional comfort?”
“He gives me choice,” I replied.
He lunged.
I blocked too late.
His fist drove straight into my ribs again, harder this time. I heard something crack.
My body folded.
He grabbed my collar and lifted me slightly off the ground.
“Love makes you predictable,” he murmured close to my face.
“Maybe,” I said hoarsely.
Then I slammed my forehead into his. He loosened his grip just enough for me to shove him back. We separated again, both breathing hard now.
Across the courtyard, silence held.
This wasn’t about armies anymore. It was just us.
“Walk away,” Elias called out suddenly. His voice was steady but tight with fear. “Darius, this doesn’t have to end in blood.”
Darius didn’t look at him.
“It already has.”
He rushed me again. I met him with everything I had left. We clashed midair, fists colliding.
Then….
He shifted. A move I’d seen once as a child during training. I recognized it too late.
He dropped low, pivoted under my guard, and drove his palm straight into my lower ribs with precise, devastating force.
Something tore.
Pain unlike anything I’d ever felt exploded through my body.
I couldn’t breathe. I couldn’t move. My knees hit the ground. The world tilted sideways.
Darius stood over me, expression unreadable.
“A lethal strike,” he said quietly. “Clean. Efficient.”
Blood dripped from my mouth onto the shattered stone.
“Ronan!” Elias’s voice broke.
I forced my head up. I met Darius’s eyes.
And I smiled.
“I’m… not done,” I rasped.
My body screamed. My vision blurred. But I planted one hand on the ground and began to push myself back up.
Darius’s expression finally shifted. His expression was not surprising, but irritating.
“You cannot win like this,” he said.
“Watch me,” I breathed.
Behind him, I saw Elias trying to move toward us.
And I knew, No matter how much it hurt. No matter how broken I was. I would not fall. Not while he was still standing.
