Chapter 133
Chapter 133
Kelly
Clara’s scream ripped through the warehouse, raw and filled with fury.
“CALL 911!”
Her voice was hoarse, shaking with unrestrained rage as she clutched Davis. Adrian kept his gun raised, watching her carefully, but Lucian hadn’t moved.
And me? I was still trying to breathe. Still trying to process everything she had just said.
Davis groaned weakly beneath her, his body barely twitching. His hand, shaking and slick with blood, tried to move, reaching for Clara.
His fingers barely brushed against her arm, and his lips parted, voice so faint I almost didn’t hear it.
“C-Clara…”
It was a whisper, but it was loud enough for anyone to hear.
Clara gasped, her anger slightly faltering. She turned toward him, eyes wide with panic, pressing down harder on his wound.
“I’m here! I’m right here, Davis. Just, just hold on, okay? I’ll get you out of here, I swear.”
Davis’s fingers curled weakly, as if trying to hold onto her, but his movements were sluggish, his body growing limp beneath her.
I swallowed against the tightness in my throat. The guilt, The pain I felt.
And then, I spoke.
“I never knew.”
My voice came out quieter than I expected, but it was audible.
Clara’s head snapped up. Her eyes, locked onto mine. It was filled with disbelief, Pure, unfiltered disbelief.
She let out a sharp, bitter laugh, her hands trembling as she kept pressure on Davis’s wound.
“Oh, don’t you dare, don’t you dare pretend you didn’t know!” Her voice cracked, her anger increasing. “You….You protected that murderer! You let him live while my father—”
She choked on her words, her teeth gritted, her entire body shaking. I should have been afraid, but I wasn’t. I just felt… hollow. Because I could see it now.
The hate, the grief, the years of suffering written all over her face. She had spent years believing I had stood by my father. That I had knowingly protected a murderer. That I had let her family be destroyed. And the worst part?
I never knew something like this happened with my dad. I was clueless, I took Clara as my assistant. My mind wandered at the days she might’ve wanted to hurt me, but stopped herself, my mind was hell off emotions.
I took a shaky breath, my hands clenching at my sides.
“I never cared about my father .”
Clara froze.
Her expression faltered for just a moment, uncertainty showing in her eyes.
“Liar.”
The truth was she wasn’t lying, I did care about my dad, despite knowing he abandoned us, despite knowing the kind of man he used to be. But I wasn’t also lying if i said I didn’t care about him.
“I’m not lying,” I said, my voice sharper this time.
The words came faster now, spilling out before I could stop them.
“I never forgave him. I never even bothered looking into his past crimes because I didn’t care.”
She shook her head, eyes burning with fury.
“You expect me to believe that?”
I swallowed hard.
“I don’t expect you to believe anything. But it’s the truth.”
I took a step closer. Clara flinched, but she didn’t back away. I kept my voice steady, forcing myself to hold her gaze.
“He abandoned me when I was twelve”
Something shifted in her expression. I let out a slow breath, my heart pounding against my ribs.
“He never bothered to check in, even when my mom was at the stage of dying…...” My throat tightened. “I spent years hating him. And when he got arrested? When I heard about his trial? I didn’t even bother to check what he did.” I paused “ And that was my biggest mistake”
Clara’s hands trembled, blood still dripping between her fingers. I kept going.
“The only reason I was even looking after him now was because he was the only family I had left.” My voice cracked slightly at the end, but I forced myself to keep speaking. “Not because I loved him. Not because I forgave him.” I paused “I’m not saying this to Justify my mistakes, but I just want to let you know that I never knew”
Silence. A long, suffocating silence.
Clara stared at me, breathing hard, her chest rising and falling in uneven movements. Her fingers twitched.
Her eyes moved down to Davis. I saw it then, the little crack in her anger. The part of her that had spent years hating me, only to realize I wasn’t the monster she thought I was.
Her lips parted slightly, her throat bobbing as she swallowed.
“No,” she whispered, shaking her head again, but this time, it wasn’t filled with blind rage. “No, that’s not—”
She stopped. Her breath hitched. Davis let out another weak, gasping sound. We both turned at the same time.
His eyes fluttered open, glassy and unfocused. His chest barely moved, his fingers twitched again, barely able to move now.
“C-Clara…”
His voice was so weak, so broken, that Clara let out a quiet sob.
She grabbed his hand immediately, pressing it tightly between her bloodied fingers.
“Look at me! I’m right here!” Her voice cracked, desperation blending into her words. “Please, just….just stay awake, okay? Help is coming. You just have to hold on.”
Davis’s lips parted, but no words came out. He blinked sluggishly, his gaze moving to her face. His breathing stopped, and then, nothing.
His hand, still resting in hers, twitched once. Then stilled. Clara’s body went rigid.
Her fingers tightened around his hand. “Davis?”
No response. Her breaths turned shaky, her shoulders trembling.
“Davis.” Still, nothing.
A choked sob tore from her throat, her entire body collapsing over him as she shook him desperately.
“Davis, wake up! Please, wake up!” Her voice rose in pure, heart-wrenching agony. “No, no, no—don’t do this! Don’t you dare leave me!”
Her sobs were raw, broken, the sound of a woman losing everything. I watched, frozen, as she gripped him tightly, shaking his head, whispering his name over and over again as if that could bring him back.
Adrian let out a slow, heavy breath. Lucian finally lowered his gun. I just stood there watching Clara scream in pain and agony, it all reminded me of how mom died. I turned away, wiping the tears the threatened to fall.
