Chapter 28: Chapter 28

Skylar

My favorite song was playing on the radio, and I sang along, ‘XOXO by Beyonce.’

Troy was laughing at me, but I felt nostalgic and overwhelmed.

My feelings were in the air, and it was a beautiful night.

There was this thing about Troy I noticed recently: he didn't play his songs from Bluetooth; he preferred the radio. It was something my dad used to do as well, and it was kind of sexy.

Leo played chaotic music that made the walls vibrate, and at one time, I used to like it, but not anymore. This was better.

We got to the parking spot, and he turned the engines off, turning the radio down.

"I guess I will see you tomorrow," I said, still feeling nostalgic.

“Yeah, you should; I am playing tom…."

“I know that I am the assistant."

"Sure you do, but I also need you to come as my girlfriend, which means you would be wearing my jacket tomorrow."

“but no girl has ever done that."

"You are not any kind of girl, Sky, and secondly, I have not dated anyone from school."

“Then where did the name ‘bad boy’ resonate from?"

He winked before saying, “Someday you will know, but not today; you have had a hard day already."

"Sure, see you tomorrow," I said, going into the house as he drove off.

I went into my room; Mommy was working late. She had called to tell me she would be home late.

I walked into my room; after I was done taking a shower, I sat at my desk.

I guess it was time to update ‘Sex in the College,’ since I was in the mood for it.

I started typing the keys instantly; I knew what to say this time—it was coming from my heart.

“He didn't have to touch or speak. In his eyes, a mirror glazed, one that only I could see, I saw his heart. It yearned. I never knew I would want him. Right from the moment I met him, he had always been a rival, a flood I prayed would go away. This time I didn't want it gone; I wanted him to stay, to carry me with his tide, to sweep me off my feet. My own Z ”,

Comments started flowing once more: “Was the heroine falling for Mr. Z now? I thought we were rooting for N.”

“This story just got Spicer,” another commented, and following another message from the user, said, “This is a fucking love triangle.”

I continued.

“Looking at N, I really thought of what I had seen in him in the first place: he had seen me drowning, and he had stood, running off to save some other woman. I have been a fool. Mr. Z had stepped in; he was carrying me in his arms. Thankfully, I hadn't drowned to death. We shall see another day. I was saved, but it didn't stop the clenching of my heart. I had been betrayed by the one I thought was meant for me; he never loved me. He was always using me. That was what I saw. If death wasn't such a horrible thing, I would wish I had really drowned. ”,

I was done updating; for the comments, maybe tomorrow. I was really tired by now.

But since I was thirsty, I decided to get a can of water downstairs.

Leo's car was parked outside by now, which meant he was home now. I went to the fridge, took out a can, and tilted the cover.

Everywhere was quiet, save for the sound of crickets chirping.

I drank in silence, taking the can upstairs with me. At the stairs, I started hearing faint sounds; Mom wasn't home yet.

The noise seems to be coming from Leo’s room. Was he injured? He hardly ever cried, so what was the problem?

I got disturbed immediately; moving closer to his room, the noise was getting louder now, the creaking of wood, and was that a woman's voice I was hearing?

I would have gone back to my room if not for the fact that his door was slightly open.

And secondly, I was no dummy; I would know Tiffany's voice from anywhere.

Shock came first, then disbelief, then shock again. Other days I would have cried, but not today; he was nothing to me anymore.

I felt nauseous; it took every ounce of me not to throw up at that moment.

When he had called himself a player, I didn't really understand, but I did when I saw her was entangled with one of the girls that I had seen at the party.

Leo hadn't seen me; it was better this way. At that moment I felt for Tiffany. Was this the guy she was fighting tooth and nail for?

But inwardly I knew she deserved it; they deserved each other.

The next morning, Nina was waiting for me to come downstairs so we could go to school.

I could smell freshly baked pancakes from my room, another one of my mom's specialties.

She was once a caterer, so she was good with pastries.

I was heading towards the kitchen when she offered her hands in a hug. It was a gesture we used to carry out when I was younger, and I never really got tired of it. I hugged her warmly, this woman who was my power force, my sunshine. When my dad died and I was tearing apart, she had given me room to grieve and comforted me even though her pain had no bound.

She was always one to say the right thing, the sweetest of things.

I took a bite; it was really tasty, so I took it with me, waving her goodbye.

I got into the car as Nina turned the ignition. She asked for a bite, and I fed her the last chunk, wiping the grease on a tissue paper.

“You look foul. Is something up?” Nina asked.

“I am alright.”

If Nina noticed anything, she said nothing about it and just kept driving ahead.

“Leo is cheating on Tiffany.”

“Ohh, that is old news.”

“You knew,” I asked, stunned.

“Literally everyone knows, everyone except Tiffany; she really has it in her head that Leo loves her. ”,

“Why didn't you tell me about this?” I yelled, angrily, “You were keeping secrets from me.”

“Well, you were drooling over him, and telling you then was going to break your heart more than when he didn't return your love. For God's sake, you followed this boy to college. Was there anything I would have said for you to hate him?” When she said this, I really blushed. Nina was always right; if Troy felt I didn't lose arguments, he was yet to meet her.

She always acted more mature than her age, like she was alone and there was no one to think for her and any mistakes could ruin her life.

“Troy wants me to wear his jacket when he plays tomorrow.” This really got a reaction from her as she shouted an “OMG, you are so lucky; no woman has ever worn Troy’s jacket before.”

In the game it was tradition that the girlfriend of the hockey member wore a team jacket with their number inscribed at the back; afterwards, she was to kiss him after the game. This is to show everyone that they were actually in love.

“That means you have to kiss Troy after the game; that’s so romantic.” She was making a kissing demonstration with her lips.

“Gross, that is disgusting, Nina. ”,

“You say that now, but I see the way you look at him and even kiss him; that should also sound gross to you.”

“It isn't, so you know,” I said, stifling a laugh at the back of my throat as I faced the window.

“Fuck you, how didn't I see that, you like him?” she exclaimed, bewildered at the results.

“No, I don't.”

“You are a fucking liar, and trust me, you are going to meet Tiffany in hell. ”,

“Gosh, Nina,” We were both laughing by now, as I said. Us

girls had gone to Maple High together, and we all knew each other.

Nina hadn't been bullied, but she had stuck with me when I was
