Chapter 110

110\. Ethan.

"Someone get me a doctor!" I yelled as we came out of the vehicle. We were lucky that the engine gave out just at the gate. "Get me a doctor!" Father had gone critical, he wasn't responding to me again.

As we approached the fort, armed guards rushed out to meet us, their faces set with a mix of concern and vigilance. They fanned out around us, quickly assessing the situation and springing into action. Some of them helped the injured, providing support and care as needed, while others maintained a watchful eye on the surroundings, ever alert for any potential threats.

The medics arrived soon after, their professionalism and calm demeanour a welcome respite from the chaos that had unfolded. They quickly took charge, expertly assessing the situation and determining the best course of action. With gentle care, they placed my father on a stretcher, their movements precise and deliberate.

"Do it gently, he's hurt," I urged, my voice laced with concern. I followed closely behind the medics, my eyes fixed on my father's pale face. "His life is in your hands, don't do anything stupid, please," I added, my anxiety evident in my tone.

The medics nodded reassuringly, their expressions calm and confident. "Don't worry, we'll take good care of him," one of them said, offering a gentle smile. But I couldn't shake off the feeling of unease, my mind racing with worst-case scenarios. I watched as they carefully lifted the stretcher and began to move my father toward the fort, my heart pounding in my chest with every step.

As we walked, I couldn't help but think about the fragility of life. One moment, everything seemed fine; the next, disaster struck. I felt a sense of vulnerability wash over me, and my grip on my father's hand tightened. "Please, be careful," I whispered, my voice barely audible.

Lyanna appeared at the scene with a group of doctors, as if she had been there for a while. "I heard you were attacked and got on the next car here. Are you hurt?" She examined my head and glanced at my rib.

"I'm fine, but my father isn't—hurgh!" I groaned, bending and holding my knees for support.

"Oh, you are hurt!" She gasped. "Your ribs are broken, and there's possibly internal organ damage. You need to be treated—" she stopped talking when she saw Nathan and Rachael following behind me. "Rachael? What happened? Why are you—what's going on?" She was very surprised.

Rachael seemed slightly pale, but despite the faint appearance, she was doing fine. "I—I don't know how to put it," she said, her voice hesitant, as if searching for the right words to describe what had happened.

Lyanna's gaze narrowed, her eyes locking onto Rachael's arms and body. She seemed to be studying her, searching for some sign or clue. Suddenly, her expression changed, and she took a step closer to Rachael. "This disturbance in the air—" she said, her voice rising in excitement. She released my arms and walked over to Rachael, her movements swift. "You did it, didn't you? You used your powers!" she exclaimed, her voice loud with a mix of surprise and awe.

Rachael nodded, a weak smile playing on her lips. "Yes, I did," she said, her voice barely above a whisper. Her eyes seemed to gleam with a mix of pride and probably fear, as if she were still coming to terms with what she had done.

Nathan, who had been watching the exchange with interest, shook his head, a wry smile spreading across his face. "You should have seen it," he said, his voice filled with admiration. "A whole army was wiped out in seconds. It was... amazing power indeed," he commented, his words dripping with respect.

Lyanna's eyes were still fixed on Rachael, her gaze intense and searching. "Tell me what happened," she said, her voice filled with curiosity. "How did you do it?" She seemed to be hungry for details, eager to understand the extent of Rachael's powers and how she had managed to unleash them.

Rachael hesitated, her eyes darting around the group as if searching for the right words. "I... I don't know," she admitted, her voice filled with frustration. "It just happened. I felt this energy building up inside me, and then... and then it just released." She shrugged, her shoulders rising and falling in a helpless gesture. "I'm still trying to understand it myself," she added, her voice barely above a whisper.

"It's okay. You must be really exhausted. I can see it in your eyes," Lyanna said. She turned back to me and held my shoulder. "Make sure to come to the doctors. They will give you medicine that will mend your ribs immediately. It seems you are suffering from silver poisoning from the explosion."

I clutched my ribs. "What about my father? What will happen to him?"

For the first time, Lyanna seemed very concerned with no warm, reassuring smiles on her face. "I don't know, but I will try my best, okay?"

I nodded and she left to join the others. A medic had started attending to Rachael as she sat on the steps, checking her vitals and I couldn't help but wonder. This was the second time I was witnessing it, and I couldn't be more surprised.

"Just replenish yourself with fluids and rest a lot. You will be fine, okay?" The doctor assured her and left.

"My lady!" Sarah appeared right in front of us. "The guards said you went out with a bike but they wouldn't allow me to follow you because of the fight outside!" She managed to sound pissed, worried and scared at the same time.

"Well thank the gods you didn't follow me, crazy things happened out there, I even saved the boys," she boasted.

Chekov approached me and threw my arm around my shoulder. "Let's get you some treatment now. Rachael is safe with Sarah."

"Oh, Chekov it's you." My body felt weak, and I was glad Chekov had stayed. Nathan had gone on to talk to the guards in my absence. "What about you? We were all battered back there."

"I'm hurt, but not like you. It seems like you are in great pain." He led me to the clinic inside the fort and placed me on a chair. "Doctor, take care of him."

"So tell me, how is the situation outside?" I asked, after we were away from all ears. My ribs were taken care of, and only thick bandages and some pain served as a reminder of my injuries.

"Our enemies retreated immediately. Your father is still in surgery and Rachael is with Sarah."

I nodded and glanced at Chekov slowly. "That bright light was something else. A very incredible power, very beautiful."

Chekov nodded. "Indeed. But if such power falls into the wrong hands. Only the gods know what terrible things can happen."

"We need to deal with those rogues before it gets out of hand. We can't let them always have the offensive against us, it's time to strike back, Chekov." I raised my head.
