Thirty-three

Maisie should have known that Zach would never try to keep anything on a low key. The next day when she entered her office, she saw Zach sitting on her seat while discussing with Anthony and Dashell.

“Hey, babe.” Zach said as a mode of greeting and Maisie could barely stifle her groan.

She could see the questions in Anthony's eyes. “Hey Zach.” she said, and she knew that if she didn't walk to Zach of her own accord that he would do something that would be more embarrassing and eyebrow-raising than what he was doing already.

She moved towards Zach and as soon as she got within an arm's length, Zach snatched her off her feet and dumped her in his laps. “I miss you.” Zach said nuzzling her neck.

“You saw me less than twelve hours ago.” Maisie grumbles.

“What does that have to do with anything.” Zach asked with a frown.

“You are in the middle of a meeting.” Maisie reminded Zach suddenly feeling shy.

“Meeting adjourned.” Zach said as he stood up and put Maisie in her desk and before she could open her mouth to protest, Zach sealed his lips with hers.

When Zach ended the kiss, Maisie's lip was swollen. “Now that is the perfect way to say good morning.”

Maisie looked around and saw that her office was empty. “You are wicked.” Maisie said.

“I am not. I just wanted to greet my girlfriend.” Zach denies with a grin on his face.

“You did that on purpose.” Maisie gasps.

“Of course, I did. I don't want anybody to get any ideas that you are single when you are clearly mine.” Zach said with a growl.

“Day 2 and already this possessive.” Maisie jokes.

"Your love drives me crazy. I don't know what you are going to do but at least I know that the men are already persuaded to keep their hands off you.”

“I won't do anything crazy if you don't push me to it.” Maisie said with a smile.

"I would never...” Zach started.

“Let's not lie. Now, what was the reason why you were holding a meeting inside my office.” Maisie asked.

“I missed you.” Zach replied.

“Zach...” Maisie started...

“Fine, I was looking at the office...” Zach started.

“We are not sharing. No way.” Maisie cuts in.

“It wouldn't be that bad.” Zach tries to convince Maisie

“Hell no! Remove that idea from your mind this instant.” Maisie glare at Zach.

“Fine. Well, it was worth a shot. Anyway, since someone refused to tell me to stay with her yesterday, I went home and did the document sorting myself. Now, all we need to do is question the person in jail.” Zach said as Maisie froze.

“He didn't commit the crime.” Maisie asked with joy.

“Nope. He is being used as a scapegoat, so we need to tell the judge that. After we get his confession.” Zach said.

“Do you know that you are amazing?” Maisie asked Zach.

“I do but I have no problem hearing you repeat it.” Zach tells her as he kissed her one last time then leaves.

Maisie released a breath. She would have to go talk to Anthony before Zach get back. There was no doubt in her mind that Zach was jealous of her relationship with Anthony and that he was marking his territory with her, so to speak, with his actions earlier. He wanted Anthony to know that she was dating him and Zach even as a ghost didn't like Anthony's closeness to her.

Maisie moved to Anthony's office and entered to see Anthony sitting and waiting for her. “What was that Maisie?” Anthony asked without any impromptu.

“Nice to see you too and good morning.” Maisie replies

“Don't give me a smart-ass answer.” Anthony growled.

“My night was splendid too, thanks for asking.” Maisie continued and Anthony released a frustrated sigh.

“Alright, I am sorry. I shouldn't have laid into you like that.” Anthony apologized.

“That is better. Morning Anthony.” Maisie said with a smile.

“Morning Maisie. You want to tell me what went on in your office.” Anthony asked Maisie careful to make sure that he wasn't being bossy because he knew that she would go back to having a different conversation entirely, like what she did earlier.

“No, I don't but I guess that I owe you an explanation. Zach and I are dating.” Maisie said.

“What?” Anthony asked in surprise.

" Wait, tell me you didn't see it coming.” Maisie asked in surprise.

“Oh, I did just like the whole firm. You two were already exchanging heated gaze and everyone could feel the sexual tension. I thought that was all it was for you. Sexual tension.” Anthony said.

“No, it wasn't. It seems like I got a second chance at having a forever.” Maisie replied with a smile.

“It doesn't work like that" Anthony said with a frown.

“I had thought so, but it does. I got my second chance, and it is with Zach.” Maisie said.

“So, when you are with him, you won't feel like you are cheating on the person who died.” Anthony asked. He had always thought that it was strange that Maisie refused to tell anybody the name of the person who died.

“I won't be. Anthony haven't you noticed that the last one month...” Maisie started.

“I noticed. You were like a woman in love again.” Anthony said with a sigh.

“Just be happy for me and don't think too much about it.” Maisie said softly as she squeezed his hand.

“I am happy for you. I just don't understand, one month is too short of a time to fall in love.” Anthony argues.

“It takes you three hours to fall in love and three days to realize that you are in love.” Maisie said.

“You just looked up that fact.” Anthony said with a glare.

“True but if it is a fact, that means that it happens to some people. I was one of the lucky ones.” Maisie lied but unlike Zach who could know when she was lying Anthony seemed to believe the lie.

“I wish you all the best.” Anthony tells Maisie as she stood up and walked to the door.

“Thank you.” Maisie replied.

“I am still going to threaten him as your honorary brother.” Anthony calls out.

Maisie laughs at that. “You would be digging yourself into a heap of trouble.” she warns as she shut the door behind her with a smile on her face.
