Chapter 134: The Arrival of Charles II

After the birth and after Charles was cleaned up, Jonathan left and went after Adam, who had been waiting in the reception the entire time for news.

“Fuck, Jonathan! What took so long to give news? So? How is Elizabeth?”

“He’s born! My son is born! Come!” Jonathan took Adam into the room where Elizabeth was. She was tired but smiling as she looked at the tiny baby.

“Look, Adam, this is Charles, your nephew...” Elizabeth said, handing the baby over to him.

“Eliz, he’s so small, he has more hair than head,” Adam said and laughed.

“Don’t talk badly about my son or I’ll break your face,” Jonathan said.

Adam returned the child to Elizabeth and she was happy with their presence there.

“Adam, has Dad already arrived? And Dave, is he coming with him?”

Adam looked at Jonathan and shook his head. He didn’t want to say it in words, but as soon as he had called Dave, he was with their father. They said they wouldn’t come to the hospital, that there was no need and it wasn’t important to meet the child while still at the hospital.

“Eliz, Uncle James is coming with Lays and Anthony. They were going to let Paul and Doug know. They’ll probably all be here...”

“It’s okay... I should have imagined it.”

Elizabeth didn’t want to show it, but she was upset. She still loved her father and wanted him to feel the same. The pregnancy had left her more sensitive and her teenage insecurities were present.

“Dave isn’t coming either?” she asked with tears in her eyes.

“He’s not coming, but as soon as you’re home he’ll want to see his nephew,” Adam said. “There’s one person who will be very happy to meet Charles...”

Adam picked up his cell phone and dialed. It was nighttime in New York, but not too late.

“Adam, is everything okay?” Dayse asked, sitting on the bed. She didn’t even worry about the nightgown she was wearing.

“Fuck, Dayse, don’t answer me dressed like that. I can see your body and my mind goes far...”

Elizabeth covered her mouth with one hand to keep from laughing. Adam really seemed in love with the Scottish girl.

“Did you call me to talk dirty? Is that it?”

“No, I called you for another reason... I want you to meet my nephew Charles Larson.”

He showed her the baby and his sister. She had the tired appearance of the postpartum period but was happy, with the child in her arms.

“Adam, he’s beautiful... Congratulations, Elizabeth. Lots of health to you and your baby.”

“Thank you, sister-in-law!” Elizabeth said, and Adam scolded her with a look.

The friendship between Dayse and Elizabeth was almost instant. Elizabeth even asked for Dayse’s phone number to talk to her, but Adam knew his sister could be easily tricked and the number would end up in their father’s or brother’s hands.

“My Scottish flower, I’m going to hang up. See you on Saturday!”

“Thank you! Dayse is really a flower of a person...” Elizabeth said gratefully. “It seems you really are in love with Dayse.”

“Don’t repeat that even as a joke. You know our father would kill me!”

“But Adam, it’s just us here... Jonathan wouldn’t tell anyone either... You like her. Did you make this deal because you like her?”

“Elizabeth, I made a very advantageous deal, but I won’t say what I gain from it. But yes, I like her. I try not to think about Dayse, but she is so simple, so gentle. It’s different from what I have to face in my day-to-day life. And I won’t tell you anything else because I know Dave will trick you and you’ll tell him.”

“I understand... I won’t say anything. I learned from my mistake. But Adam, are you going to travel? Did I understand correctly?”

“Yes, I’m going to spend the weekend in Scotland. I plan to go out with Dayse. Now I’m leaving. The Larson guy must be arriving...”

Adam left and Jonathan followed him.

“Adam, wait!” Jonathan said and ran up to him.

“Say it, Jonathan.”

“Did you really make a good deal with the Scottish family?”

“Are you going to tell Elizabeth?”

“You have my word that I won’t...”

“I’m really in love with Dayse. She is a unique woman. I’ve never met anyone like her. Besides, I’ll get the position in Scotland. I’ll be the next Scottish boss.”

“Wow! It really is one hell of a deal! But you know you’ll have to live in Scotland, right?”

“I know. I’ll miss you all, but I’ll come visit whenever I can... And I want you to do the same.”

Adam had barely left through the exit when James arrived with Lays and Anthony. They were happy about the arrival of the new member of the Larson family.

“Jonathan, where is my great-nephew?” James asked.

“With Elizabeth... Come!”

Elizabeth was alone in the room talking to Charles when James opened the door.

“My dear, you are really very strong and beautiful. Your aunt answered from Scotland to meet you. Your uncle Adam was here too, besides your dad. They are our family. I hope you don’t mind not having someone to call grandpa. Unfortunately, your father’s dad is already in heaven and mine... Well, he’s not very paternal, so maybe he won’t want to be so close. Even so, you are very loved, the most loved baby in the world...”

“Don’t lie to the boy, because grandpa is here...” James said, kissing Elizabeth’s forehead. He took the baby in his arms and caressed his hair.

“He looks like Jonathan when he was little. Your father had so much hair he looked like a girl,” James said, looking at the child.

“Thank you for being here. I must be being silly because of the hormones, but I wanted him here. I wanted my whole family here with me...” Elizabeth allowed herself to cry. Even after everything she had been through, she still missed her father, still loved him, and wanted his affection.

“Elizabeth...” James first placed the baby in the small hospital bassinet beside the bed, then sat down and pulled Elizabeth onto his lap. “You know I was present at your birth. I saw you and Jonathan come into the world. I never imagined that one day I would see the fruit of the two of you... Don’t feel that way. I love you as if you were my daughter and Charles can very well call me grandpa. I’ll do this for you and for my brother too. He would have loved to be at your wedding and even more to be Charles’s grandfather. Don’t be sad because your father doesn’t know how to appreciate the blessing that it is to have you as a daughter.”

Soon the door opened and Lays entered with Anthony. Shortly after, Jonathan, Noah, Kia, and Anne entered.

“Darling, look who I found lost downstairs...” Jonathan said, looking at his mother.

“Oh, let me see my grandson... Come to grandma, come here!” Anne took the baby and everyone pampered him. “Darling, is everything okay? Where is your family...”

“Well, my brother just left and... The rest of my family is right here!”

Anne understood and smiled. Besides Adam, Elizabeth only had them, and that was all she needed.
