Chapter 195: Switzerland

Dario’s POV

I paced the living room, waiting for Avery to return. I had already asked Carl and Vince to go get her, and Madame Fiona had already arrived at the house.

“Calm down. I'm pretty sure she's fine.” Madame Fiona said for the fifth time now. “She might be pregnant, at most.”

I froze.

That thought hadn't occurred to me, but now that Madame Fiona had said it, I realized that it was possible. I mean, protections hadn't been used by either of us.

If she was pregnant,....damn, that would be awesome. My only fear right now was that she might not be happy with the news as I am. I mean, was she ready to bear a child?

Man, this was going to be rough.

“Mhmm.” Madame Fiona said smugly, drawing me out of my thoughts. “I can see it going through your head. The possibilities of being a father. And you're obviously excited about it, but calm down because she might not be pregnant either. She might just be sick.”

And the fear returned.

There was still a huge possibility that Avery was sick and I had no idea about what was wrong with her.

“Oh hi. Is everything alright here?”

I looked up to find Avery, Carl and Abigail standing in the doorway.

“Oh, everything's not alright.” Carl crossed his arm over his chest as he moved forward to face her. “You lied to us all along that Dario knew you were sick and that you were getting treated by Madame Fiona, just for me to find out now that Dario was not aware of anything, and no one even knows if Madame Fiona was really treating you of anything. Do you even know what's wrong with you?”

Avery was scared now, glancing apologetically between Carl, me and Madame Fiona.

“Wait, they didn't know?” Abigail looked between Avery and Carl who was busy nodding his head while still glaring at Avery.

“I'm sorry. I …I just didn't want to bother anybody. And besides, I didn't think it was that serious, and I didn't want anyone fussing over me. But I'm really sorry. I was wrong.”

She was apologizing to everyone — I knew that — but she was looking straight at me. She knew why though, because I was really mad at her for this and she knew it.

“I think we should all go easy on her. Besides, we've found out now that she is not fine, so the best thing for us to do for ourselves and for her is to find out what's wrong with her, and find a way to help.” Madame Fiona said in a scolding tone as she glared at Abigail and Carl.

No matter how much she tries to deny it, I know that Madame Fiona has developed a strong liking for Avery, because if it was anyone else, she'd have been the first one to start scolding them.

I just sighed and turned away because no matter how I tried to hide it, I was not happy about what she had just done.

“Avery, come sit darling.” Madame Fiona ushered her to the seat opposite her.

Avery sluggishly moved and did as she was told, still stealing apologetic glances at me.

“So, what have you been noticing? What are your symptoms?”

Avery started speaking, but my mind had already drifted off. I felt like something was definitely wrong for Avery not to be able to tell me that she felt ill, and it was not just about not wanting me to fuss.

Of course, I knew that I was going to fuss — uncontrollably at that, but I can't blame myself for being so in love with her. And she knew that if she insisted that I didn't fuss, I wouldn't — I guess.

“Did you hear what I said, Dario?” Madame Fiona asked, drawing me out of my thought haze.

“What? No. I'm sorry, I was a bit lost.”

“She has chronic fatigue syndrome. It's caused by constant overstressing, so her system is now weak and is no more showing her signs of fatigue until it really hits her. It's a serious illness but it doesn't take much to cure it though. All she needs is just enough rest and relaxation, and she'll be good as new.”

I let out a huge sigh of relief. “Thank you madame Fiona. We'll take your advice. I assure you.”

“Dario, no. I'm not doing that. I don't want to do it.”

“Avery, I promise you'd love Switzerland. Besides, it was Carl who suggested it. We feel like you'll get better faster in such serene environment. And once you're recovered, you'll be back.”

I might have made a decision with Carl to take Avery off to Switzerland without checking in with her first. You couldn't blame me though. We all knew that if Avery stayed here, she'll get distracted by every thing and when we refuse her stepping out of the house and just making her rest all day, she'll start getting depressed and start thinking we hate her.

Although Madame Fiona says she can do a little exercise, just for one to two hours at most.

“Dario, it's not like I don't want to leave here. I mean, I feel the fatigue weighing down on me. I just don't want to be stuck in some beautiful glass house with nothing but an extremely large TV as entertainment.”

“No baby. It's a little wooden cottage in the middle of a grassy meadow, and it's got lots of books. No TV. I plan to start reading your books on this trip.”

She smiled now as she looked up at me. “Okay, then maybe I'll go, but only on one condition. You get Carl and Abigail to come see me once in a while.”

“Yeah. Sure.”

She winced at that moment, as if the recollection of something just came back to her.

“I'm sorry Dario, for keeping it from you. I just didn't know how you were going to take it, but I knew that you were going to keep me locked up and that's why I refused to tell you. I won't do it next time, please.”

“It's fine.” I squatted to look her in the eyes as I planted a kiss on her lips.

“I guess I have to call Carl and Abigail to apologize now.”

“Yeah.” I said calmly, although my heart was leaping for joy.

We were going away from everything and everyone for a while and it was going to be awesome.
