Chapter 30
I woke up the next day.
I opened my eyes, feeling weak all over.
“Where's Katie?”
“I'm here. This is Patrick's house, we're safe.” Katie approached.
Katie wasn't injured and the pictures taken of her were all retrieved.
Thankfully.
“Do you feel any discomfort?” Patrick stared at me.
“I feel a bit weak.” I couldn't muster any strength.
“That's normal.” He sighed in relief. “Luckily you were taken to the hospital in time, you really scared everyone.”
“What about him?”
I looked around and didn't see Kevin, and it would be false to say that I wasn't disappointed.
I had so much to say to him, so many questions to ask, but he wasn't here.
Katie and Patrick exchanged a glance, both remaining silent.
“Well, he's a bit busy today.” Patrick still maintained a calm facade.
“He got engaged today, so he won't be coming.” Katie blurted out.
Engaged?
My heart shattered instantly.
So, he compromised with his parents after all, and he got engaged to that girl?
He couldn't even wait until I woke up from my unconscious state to get engaged to someone else?
“Let's not talk about that brat. Just rest here this afternoon, alright?” Patrick broke the awkward atmosphere.
“I want to go home.”
“Alright, I'll take you.” Patrick and Katie escorted me back home.
Katie said she wanted to stay with me.
But honestly, I just wanted a moment alone.
“Katie, I'm sorry for causing you suffering.”
“Christina, whether you have problems or not, we're best friends, right? We're both still alive, aren't we? No need to apologize.”
“Thank you.”
Only she was left by my side once again.
On the way home, I saw one of Patrick's friends video calling him.
The other person was at the engagement scene.
The scene was filled with blue dreamy crystals, it was beautiful.
“Patrick, you dare not show up at Luo's engagement.” The person on the phone scolded him.
The atmosphere in the car instantly became awkward.
“You drink a few for me.” Patrick chuckled.
“I can't do that for you, you two are always together like two peas in a pod. On this occasion, you didn't personally come to give your blessings, it's not right.”
“Alright, alright, I'll give him a call later.”
“Okay, I'll leave the task of getting him drunk to you,” Patrick said, about to hang up.
But suddenly, the camera switched and I saw Kevin.
He was wearing a suit and tie, being escorted by a girl in a princess dress, standing there with an uncertain expression.
Almost the moment I saw him, he noticed this video call.
“Who are you talking to?” he asked.
“Patrick,” I replied.
His face immediately darkened.
I don't know if it was just my imagination, but even though I wasn't appearing on the camera, he was looking for me within it.
“Just hang up,” he said, withdrawing his gaze and walking away.
In the midst of the sparkling engagement party, his figure seemed lonely and desolate.
