Chapter 52: Fifty two
ERICA'S POV
Kyle and I left the city, driving towards the suburb area. During the drive, Kyle was silent all the way. He didn't even spare me a glance at all, and he appeared as if he was anxious.
But why? I should be the furious on here.
I just watched Kyle silently with a weird gaze and pressed my lips into a thin line. As we continued the drive, the road began to get darker and the buildings were getting fewer. I was now getting curious and wanted to know where we were going. The place was getting really dark. Soon, only trees and woods could be seen. This time, I couldn't take it anymore.
"Where are we going Kyle?" I inquired curiously, as I stared at his face. Though, it was his side view, but it still appeared attractive.
Kyle concentrated on the steering wheel and didn't answer my question.
"We are almost there." That was his reply, which was low and sort of depressed.
Immediately, our car climbed up a small windinghill, and this was when the road became more bumpy. It wasn't smooth at all, and road was now very narrow. I couldn't say anything but hope for it not to be something bad. For god sake, I ought to be sleeping now and not going for a drive in the night.
Few minutes later, we reached a meadow, and Kyle stopped the car. I finally exhaled and looked around, wondering where we were. Kyle alighted the car and pulled me out of it gently.
"What's this?" I asked Kyle as he pulled me out of the car. But he said nothing.
Looking up, I saw there was an orange street light around the meadow and through this, I found out we were in a large cemetery. My heartstarted thudding, still not understanding why Kyle had driven me here.
A cemetery?!!! I screamed in my head and wanted to curse Kyle . Why had he brought me here?! This is insane!.
I realized Kyle wasn't saying anything at all, and I just gave up. Forget it. It useless to express your mind, I thought and took a deep breath. Looking closer, I found out it was the Caruso's family cemetery, where all the dead people in the gang were buried. Well, that was okay, until Kyle held my hand, and started walking to only Kyle knows where.
I wanted to ask a lot of things, but didn't even know where to start from. I was really confused. We walked along the gravestones, that could be seen, without stopping. With this, I thought Kyle seemed to have a particular grave he wanted to visit, and he was taking me there with him.
But what do I have to do with this?! I thought and shook my head. But still, I couldn't stop wondering about whose grave Kyle was desperate to visi, even to the extent he had to venture out late in the night. Just who could it be? Why can't we come here tomorrow morning or afternoon? Why does it have to be this night? It doesn't make sense to me, but how would I ask this man beside me?.
Sighs...
Soon, Kyle suddenly came to a halt in front of a tombstone. He looked around and no one was with him except for me. His face was as blank as a paper, had no emotions but looked handsome as always. He looked down at the tombstone and signed.
My eyes followed each and every movement he made, and my eyes simultaneously went to the inscription on the tombstone after Kyle looked at it. I was unable to read the inscription on the tombstone, the light was dim and the only source of illumination was the moon that stood lazily in the sky.
Kyle took his phone and switched on the flashlight and illuminated the tombstone to make the inscription brighter, I guess it was to help me read it.
"Caleb Caruso " I read aloud, after being able to see the name on the tombstone.
"That's my brother", Kyle answered.
I suddenly felt uncomfortable and wanted to question how he died at a young age, but I wasn't sure if it was the right thing to ask at a time like this. So I closed my eyes, and said a silent, holy prayer for the dead.
When I was done with my prayers, I saw Kyle mumbling in front of the tombstone and repeating the word sorry, over and over again. This made me feel confused and perplexed. I was about to question Kyle and ask what the problem could be, when he looked towards me.
I was dressed in my pink flowery pajamas, with the material it was made of and the look on my face, Kyle postulated that I must be very cold. He could have given me his jacket or a hug, at least to calm me down and also serve as a heat source to me. But on another thought, he felt it would be better I left and went home. So, he asked me if I wanted to go home.
At first, I was reluctant, but I was reminded by the cold that it wouldn't be wise if I didn't, so I nodded.
"Could he be hiding something from me", I thought, as I walked along side Kyle.
I could tell that he looked really depressed, even with the look on his face. Perhaps, he was hiding something heartbreaking and disastrous. But what could it be?.
I kept wondering as I followed him down the street. I looked at his face, his lips as soft as always, with his pale face lit slightly by the moon shining above us. I was about to ask if he was really fine, when we got to the slope at the hill.
Kyle went before me and thrusted his hands out for me to grab. I held his hand and helped myself down the slope. Kyle can be romantic sometimes. But why would he refuse to tell me what was bothering him? Well, maybe I meant nothing to him.
After I got down the hill, I hesitated to drop Kyle's hand and held it tighter. That's the little way i can make him feel better, I guess. I looked in front, and it was the previous meadow we passed-by the other time.
Kyle gently dropped my hand and sat down quietly. I did the same and sat next to him. The look on his face emitted loneliness in full glory. A happy soul would look at his face and get depressed immediately. I didn't like this at all, so I asked if he was okay.
Kyle heard this and looked away. So I asked again in a calm voice.
"Kyle, are you okay at all?",
And as I would expect, he ignored my question and just laid down on the wet meadow. Perhaps they seem to calm his nerves, because he looked a bit more relieved when his body came in contact with the grass.
I couldn't give up yet, so I asked him once again if anything was wrong. He shrugged and helped himself as he laid his head on my leg. To be honest, this made me feel much more better. At least I felt his presence and the warmth of his neck on my lap.
I looked down on him and noticed he was staring at the sky. I stared deep into his blank face and admired his perfect face and beauty. I was reluctant to leave his side, the cold pierced deeper into my skin, but I endured, as looking at Kyle's face was all I wanted at the moment.
Kyle looked back at me, and noticed I was cold, so he removed his jacket and gave it to me. It was a leather jacket and was enough to withstand the moisture and cold at the moment.
I wore the jacket and felt immense warmth I perceived Kyle''s sweet scent that lingered on the Jacket. I held his head as he helped himself back to my laps. He returned his gaze back to the beautiful sky and was lost in his thought.
Perhaps, the cold pierced on me too much that i felt the urge to sneeze. I tried bottling it up in order not to truncate and disturb Kyle's mind voyage, but the urge was strong.
The temperature on the mountain was too much, and I couldn't help but sneeze. I let it all out and covered my mouth with my right hand. Anf just then, Kyle shrugged, and gave me a tight hug.
