Chapter 160: Saving Ethan's body.

Chapter 160

Ava’s POV

A groan of pain escaped my lips as Canon rushed over to where I lay in the back seat of the car. His strong arms carefully slid underneath me, lifting me gently into his hold despite my blood covered body.

“I wonder what your dad is going to do about this,” he said suddenly, his voice heavy and filled with frustration. “You’re definitely going back home after this, and I doubt he’ll let you step outside again.”

I pursed my lips at his words, unable to argue, even though his words held truth.

“Just shut up and hurry,” I mumbled weakly, my voice coming out very weak “You still have to go save him.” I ended.

We entered through the front doors of the hospital. A group of nurses that were alerted by our arrival rushed out with a stretcher. Without hesitation, Canon placed me gently onto it, my body kept aching with every movement.

“Dr. Eric, please take her and don’t let her out of your sight,” Canon said urgently, his tone commanding.

“Of course, Canon,” the man who seemd to be Dr. Eric replied, already checking my condition. He turned to me with a calm look. “Please come with us, miss,” he said, motioning to the nurses to continue pushing the stretcher down the hallway.

“We’ll be taking you into surgery right away. This looks very serious…” he added, frowning as he checked my vitals and began asking me questions as he ticked a small chart.

As they wheeled me away, I looked back and caught sight of Canon standing at the hospital entrance.

He was still watching me, unmoving, and the sight made my heart ache just a little. I couldn’t deny it, he had saved me again. I silently promised myself I would find a way to reward him for everything he had done.

As the stretcher turned a corner and Canon disappeared from view, a lump formed in my throat.

“Miss, can you feel anything here?” Dr. Eric asked suddenly, snapping me out of my thoughts.

I glanced down to where he appeared to be pinching the lower part of my hand, but I felt absolutely nothing.

“No…” I mumbled in confusion, my voice shaking slightly. I looked up at his face and saw the grave expression he wore. It made my chest tighten.

“We’ll do everything we can to make sure you come out of this with the best possible result,” he said with a faint smile, but I knew what his words truly meant. He was trying to soften the blow.

I took in a shaky breath and turned my head to the side. The hallway lights blurred above me as we moved quickly through the ward.

The sound of medical orders and equipment faded into the background as I drifted into my own thoughts, trying to block out the fear creeping into my heart.

Canon’s POV

With one final look at Ava’s blood-covered figure as she disappeared around the corner, I let out a heavy sigh and turned on my heel. My hands curled into tight fists at my sides as I walked out of the hospital.

Why wouldn’t she listen? Why couldn’t she just let go of her dangerous obsession with Ethan and focus on something else or someone else? And now, because of that same obsession, she was likely going to lose her arm.

And still, even in that condition, she was worried about saving the very man at the center of everything that had gone wrong. The thought made my blood boil.

What made it worse was that I was still going, heading straight into danger to try and rescue the same man who had caused so much pain. My teeth clenched as I slid into the car and slammed the door shut.

I started the engine and pressed hard on the accelerator, the tires screeching as I sped off.

“What’s the situation over there?” I demanded into the phone the moment the person on the other end picked up the call.

“The police have arrived, and hopefully they will go in to offer help to him. The room Ethan was left in has been set ablaze, with four bullets to his limbs, pinning him in place,” Zack, who I guessed was most likely the one Ava had sent to watch over Ethan, spoke from the other end of the call, his voice low as he seemed to be comcentrated on something else on his end.

“Good. Call over an ambulance, will you? And keep me updated if there is a change in the situation,” I replied, shifting gears as I prepared to hang up the call. But Zack’s voice came again, stopping me mid-motion.

“I think the police are on Dominic’s side… They aren’t going to go in to save him,” he said slowly.

“That is expected. I’m on my way now,” I responded quickly before cutting the call. I tossed my phone into the inner pocket of my jacket and hit the gas hard, the tires screeching as I tore through the traffic, weaving sharply between vehicles.

My eyes danced to the glowing digits of the time beeping steadily on the dashboard.

Within minutes, I neared the location. The old church slowly came into view in the distance. My eyes snapped to a black vehicle that sped past me from the opposite direction.

As I passed by I heard a scream, it sounded familiar the person was in pain. That had to be Ava’s rival. My hands tightened on the wheel as I slowed down, I had no concern with the girl.

I reached the church and parked just behind where the police were lined up.

Stepping out quietly, I slowly surveyed the bustling scene. Police officers stood in a loose line, the all looked casual and unconcerned as though they weren’t aware that there was someone who could die inside.

“He should be dead by now. Let’s bring him out and quench the fire… at least let it look like we tried to save him in case we get people after our tail,” a muffled conversation reached my ears from behind a parked van. The words made my jaw clench.

Just then, the sound of sirens approached. The ambulance burst through the barricade and came to a screeching halt in front of the church.

Medical personnel rushed out with stretchers, dashing into the smoke-filled building. Moments passed like hours until they finally emerged, pushing a stretcher between them it was Ethan.

He looked nearly lifeless and blood covered, bruised, and very pale from blood loss. His limbs were wrapped in soaked bandages and he remained still on the stretcher, it was hard to know if he was still alive but seeing as he was given first aid ten there was a good chance he wasn't dead.

“Take him to Uptown Hospital. If he’s still alive… end him properly,” a police officer said coldly, his voice without emotion. I turned slightly and caught a glimpse of his face, noting every detail.

Without a word, I turned and walked away from where they were gathered. My steps were heavy as I got into my car, slammed the door shut, and drove off with a roar.

Just at the bend of the street, I pulled hard on the brakes, bringing the car to a sudden stop. My hands moved smoothly on the wheels as I turned the steering wheel and parked the car across the road, completely blocking the path. Then, I stepped out, the cold breeze slapping at my face.

Without hesitation, I walked to the center of the road and lay down flat on the asphalt, staring up at the night sky. As I lay there, waiting, my mind wandered.

What exactly did Ava see in Ethan?

He was a man surrounded by danger, his life was filled with secrets and enemies.

A was a man who attracted trouble and was trouble himself. Even if the bullets and fire didn’t kill him, they were planning to finish him off at the hospital. It didn’t make sense, yet she cared so deeply for him and that bastard never even looked her way.

I could only hope that my takeover plan worked. Otherwise everything would be in vain, and I don't even want to start about Ava's endless nagging.

My train of thought was suddenly cut off by the sound of an engine roaring in the distance. I turned my head to the side and saw a vehicle speeding towards me. It was the ambulance. It was rushing so fast and the headlights grew brighter the closer it got.

My hand instinctively went to the gun at my side. My grip tightened around it as I prepared for my next line of action.
