Chapter 115 Chapter 115

Sienna

I took a step back, staring around my feet at the apples rolling away from where we stood.

Logan gently guided me away from the heap, signaling some of the Lycan females around to pick up the fruits. “I didn’t know you’ll be making a stop at the clearing,” I said, wiping my damp palms on my pants. I couldn’t help it, I was nervous.

It was my first Pyre of the fallen ceremony with the pack. I was trying hard to fit in and empathize with them, but the truth was I felt so out of place. No matter how much effort I put in today, I would never truly be able to relate to their feeling of loss.

I hated that my first ceremony as queen couldn’t have been something less… intense.

Logan took a step closer to me, cupping my cheeks and gently tilting my head back to search my gaze. “I wanted to know how you’re taking all of this,” he stated, vaguely gesturing to the preparations going on around us. “It’s not really the most mood-lifting event.”

I shook my head, taking his hand in mine and gently pushing them away before he saw too much. Blocking my eyes from the sun, I scanned the field. There was something gloomy about the atmosphere; a sorrow I couldn’t relate to and couldn’t help ease.

Logan drew a sharp breath, following my train of thoughts. “You’re overthinking,” he said calmly. He took my hand and led me away from the middle of the clearing to stand at a corner. His thumb softly brushed my cheek. “You’re my mate and their Queen. I swear that there’s no place else you’re meant to be.”

I lifted the corner of my lips up in a small smile, bringing the center of his palm to my lips. I couldn’t reconcile the Lycan standing before me to the one who’d thrown me out of his pack the morning after we’d had sex.

“Thank you,” I said softly. Nessa signaled my attention at the buffet table. “It’s almost the start of the ceremony, I’ll be back at the mansion soon.” He brought his lips to mine before giving me a small nod and leaving.

I walked back to the table, going over the snacks being set up. Nessa wiped her palms over the apron she wore. “I’m not sure if we have enough to cover the entire pack.”  I mentally did the calculations. It wouldn’t be enough for everyone to be fully satisfied.

Plus, if a lot of them turned out to be comfort feeders, they could eat double or triple the regular portion. I jerked my head in Livia’s direction. “Let her know to get another batch of everything please.”

Minutes after I was satisfied with how fast things were moving, I headed back to the mansion to get ready for the ceremony. Maurie was already rounding up with getting Elias prepared. He was putting on his shoes when I walked in.

“Look at you looking so handsome,” I said smiling. I fixed the collar of his shirt and pinched his cheeks. He looked like a mini version of Logan formally dressed up in a royal attire. The corner of his lips lifted at my compliment and he did a three sixty to properly show off his outfit.

“That’s my boy!” I cheered, giving him a high five.

Maurie picked up his clothes from the bed, carefully folding them up. “Your dress and jewelry have been delivered to the master bedroom. You let me know if you need help getting ready.” She already knew I preferred doing my hair and makeup myself. I always did it very lightly so it didn’t require much effort.

Giving her a nod, I took the hairbrush Elias was handing me after brushing his hair and set it on the dressing table. “Mara is almost dressed?” I inquired from Maurie.

I watched her signal Elias to take her hand. “Yes,” she said, addressing me. “She’s going to head out to the clearing with Elias. You and Logan would meet them after your entrance.” I raised an eyebrow at ‘your entrance’ but chose to let it slide.

I might just pass out if I was supposed to do anything significant at the ceremony.

Placing a kiss on Elias’s temple, I headed to the master bathroom to get ready. Logan was nowhere to be found as I closed the door behind me and headed for the bathroom. Many minutes later, I stepped out and finally paid attention to the dress laid out on the bed.

It was a royal blue dress with silver embroidery at the edges. I picked up the jewelry box carefully laid beside it. The expensive stones drew a shocked breath from me. “These are so beautiful,” I murmured, rubbing my fingers over the silver jewelry.

Tears pricked my eyes as I set them down and immediately started getting dressed before I ran late. I was sitting in from of the dressing mirror fixing my hair when Logan walked into the room. My heart stuttered when I lifted my eyes and met his gaze in the mirror.

He was so breathtakingly handsome.

He was in an outfit similar to Elias’s, but there was nothing soft and boyish about the way his shirt hugged the planes of his chest and shoulders. He walked to me with long strides, taking my hand and gently pulling me up to my feet after I rounded it with my hair.

He picked up the necklace and pushed my hair over one shoulder to help me put it on. His hands snaked around my waist as he pulled me flush against him, resting his chin on my shoulder as we stared out our reflection in the mirror.

We looked ethereal.

Me in my royal blue dress and him in his dark shirt and pants. His fingers entwined with mine as he kissed my bare shoulders and turned me around to meet my eyes. “It’s going to get a little emotionally heavy out there. Are you ready?”

I inhaled a low steady breath, and entwined our fingers more tightly.

“Let’s do this.”
