Chapter 54: CHAPTER FIFTY FOUR - ADRIEL

“I don’t make you do anything.” She replies, pushing me off. I admire her bravery, her strength too. That she’s not just giving into whatever this damned bond between us is.

“I don’t know how to control myself around you.” I admit. I don’t know how to control my Lycan. How to even be myself when she’s here. She takes over everything, her presence consumes the very air I breathe. And I want her to say the same, to admit it, to confess that all she thinks about, all she dreams about, everything, every moment, all of it is about me too.

But she doesn’t. She just meets my gaze head on, with a raging fury blazing in her eyes. “Then you need to learn.” She snaps before turning and fleeing.

I could chase her. I know I can. It would be so easy to hunt her down, pin her to the ground and do whatever I wanted. She’d be helpless to stop me. Perhaps she’d want it, perhaps she’d melt under my touch, beg me to fuck her right here on the grass and I’d finally sate all that desperate need in myself.

And yet I don’t. I just stand there, savouring her scent on the air, watching her slowly disappear into the house. My house.

“Are you having a change of heart?” My father’s voice rings out, making me jump.

I turn seeing him stood almost exactly where I’d spotted Maricela. How long he’s been here I don’t know.

I meet his gaze. His blue Wolf eyes almost glowing in the darkness.

“She hates me.” I state.

“She has good reason to.” He replies as blunt as ever.

I arch a brow. “You really think that?”

He shrugs. “If she is your mate then what you’re doing with Lia is unforgivable.”

“And if Lia is my mate, then what I’m doing with Maricela is.”

“Why, what are you doing?” He asks.

I shake my head. I don’t even know. I just know I’m drawn to her. That every time my eyes land on her I can’t look away. Every time I smell her, I’m enchanted.

I glance back, knowing she’s already inside but some part of me so desperately wants to see her there, walking back, taking my hand, smiling at me.

“How do I prove to her I’m not the arsehole she thinks I am?”

He tilts his head. “That would take some time considering your behaviour up until now.” He says. “But you know, your mother hated me to start with.”

“Is that so?” I reply as we both begin to walk inside.

“Yeah, but once we learned to understand one another, all our differences just resolved themselves.”

“How do I do that? How do I learn to understand her when all I can think about is fucking her senseless.”

His eyebrows raise. I know it’s at the admittance that that’s how I feel about Maricela and not the fact I’m being so frank.

“Spend time with her.” He says. “Talk to her. Show her you’re more than what she’s seen so far.”

“And if she refuses?”

He smirks. “Then I’d say falling back on the fucking isn’t a bad backup plan.”

I roll my eyes. Sure, he’d say that. But Maricela isn’t exactly experienced in that department and as much as I’m dying to touch her, I don’t want to let her think that’s the only thing I’m after. What I want is so much deeper than that, so much more.

And then I groan. “What do I do about Lia?”

He fixes me with that sharp, knowing look of his. “Do you still think she’s your mate, after what you’ve just said?”

I want to say no. My Lycan roars that that is the case and yet something inside twists, refuting it.

“I don’t know.” I admit. “It’s like I want them both.” Gods, I’m so confused.

He lets out a sigh of frustration. “You can’t have them both, Ad. You have to decide.”

“Fine then.” I reply. Spending time with Maricela won’t exactly be cheating anyway, and if it helps prove it one way or another how can Lia complain?
