Chapter 24: MUST BE OUT OF HIS MIND

"Tch!" His face frowned drastically; the war had changed him a lot as a person. His antics of not trusting anyone on the battlefield has left such an impact on him that he was suspecting his own Luna now. Growing up as the child of an abusive marriage, one of the most important lessons that he learnt from his parents was that no relationship could be led on without trust. If he wanted his marriage to be successful he would have to let his guards down and accept the fact that his wife was not like others. She won't hurt him and thus, can be trusted.

What if Reed was right, she had no secret to herself and was merely wanting to help these people. Technically, it should be his duty to take care of these people as he is their Alpha but not only was she taking the efforts, she was giving him the credits for everything. Like a responsible wife, she was even looking out for him and his reputation.

Alpha Enrique couldn't help but feel guilty for what he had done.

He turned away his head to avoid looking into her eyes and said, "Anyways, we have to stop the bleeding. I will bring Polene to treat the wound. Until then, keep applying pressure to the wound to minimize the blood loss."

Licia sat there and revealed a secretive smirk as she watched the man quickly change the subject. It wasn't the best tactic that she had used but it was okay as long as she was safe for the time being. This man was really observant so she will have to be a little more careful in the future and think about an escape plan too, she cannot rely on this same tactic to save her if there was going to be a next time.

As she watched him leave, she remembered something and called him, "Oh, and, uhm…"

The man stopped in his tracks and asked, "What is it?"

Licia looked down and said a little hesitant, "Can you bring me a change of clothes on your way back. I got blood on this one." She expected an answer of affirmation from him, however, he said something totally out of subject, "Enrique."

"Huh?"

"You can call me by my name the next time." He explained himself in a low but gentle tone. The girl was surprised by his sudden comment, this was a really drastic change of heart. Maybe the Alpha was too embarrassed in admitting that he was wrong so he was throwing around subtle hints to show that he believed her. The man didn't wait for her reply and strode out of the door immediately.

"Hah! Seriously… Look who is being a guilt ridden wife slave now." Reed commented, earning a look of displeasure for Alpha Enrique who was hurrying to the kitchen to find Polene. He said in an irritated tone, "Can you please shut up with your nonsense for a while and let me live at peace?

"Nonsense? Am I the one who dotingly asked her to call me by my first name to make her feel better?"

The man didn't bother to answer his wolf because he was already in the kitchen. He went on directly and called out to the middle aged housekeeper, "Polene! Polene, are you in here?"

The woman was currently kneading the dough when she heard the Alpha's voice; she immediately abandoned her work and dashed towards him, "Alpha! Is there something you need me for?"

"Erm…" The man scratched the back of his head and said, "Licia is injured…"

As soon as his words fell, it received a wave of shock and worry from the housekeeper, "What? Dear Heavens…What happened to the Luna? How did she get hurt?"

The Alpha could not make himself reply to her answers without making himself look like the bad guy in front of all these maids. Instead, his confusion diffused into anger as he snapped at her, "Enough with these useless questions! She needs immediate treatment. Come to my room with the medicine and bandages."

"Yes, yes! Right away, My Alpha." The housekeeper nodded frantically before running out of the kitchen to collect all the necessary stuff and heading upstairs.

After he was done with Polene, he headed back upstairs to find a dress for her. During the whole process, Reed was suspiciously silent and had a look of mockery on his face. "What is going on inside your head?" Alpha Enrique couldn't help but ask his cheeky counterpart. Reed stretched out and positioned himself leisurely, "I should be the one asking you. I am definitely not the one who is following her orders and bringing her a dress."

Alpha Enrique pursed his lips and refrained from saying anything to save himself from getting brutally roasted. He looked down at the dress in his hand and was irritated about how right Reed was. For him to carry out her orders without a single thought or question, he must be really crazy.

'Because I was merely a maid.'

'That is why I want to help the people in this town.'

Her soft yet determined words came back in his mind and he couldn't help but smack his lips together to showcase his annoyance, "Tch! Honestly, I have gone mad…"

He sure was out of his mind of using such extreme measures with her over his trivial doubts. "Pathetic!" He called himself before letting out a sigh. He swore that if he ever married and had a wife, he would never let her suffer in the same way his mother did. At this rate, he was no better than his father.

The man entered the room after Polene was done with her treatment. Seeing him enter, the girl said, "Ah, you are back."

"Yes." He gracefully closed the door behind him; Licia wondered how could a man look so good while even carrying out the most basic job like handling a door. She could not linger for long in her thoughts as the man asked, "How is your wound?"
