Chapter 69

LOGAN.

“Hit him harder!” Beta Donald yelled while his men tossed me around, hitting me with silver chains designed with small nails that took a bite of my flesh with every stroke. I was bound in chains, bleeding from my fresh injuries, poison coursing through my veins in another dungeon that was completely different from the one that I was used to. The problem wasn’t with every strike across my skin; I was devoid of pain after all. My main focus was on Amy. The full moon was fast approaching in less than a day and there was still no show from Amy. It only meant one thing, something happened to her. The prison door opened and I looked up only to see the face of my arch-nemesis.

“Hayes,'' I said in a tired fashion. He smiled and hell, that smile of his still gave me that mild irritation.

“You like this place?” he asked. “This is Silver Rose Island dungeon. The Pack you and your rotten members destroyed.”

“What did you do to Amy?” I queried, unconcerned about the other information.

“Nothing.” He smiled mischievously and came closer to me. “I still don't know what Amy sees in a cursed man like you.”

“I don't think you deserve to know,'' I growled and he chuckled darkly.

“Either way, I hope she tells me before you die.”

“What did you do to her?!”

“I gave her a challenge.” He gestured in a grand manner while I sported a quizzical look. “She wants to save you so badly that she would choose to revolt against me, her father. I really want to see if she can save you in the nick of time or not.”

“She will,” I asserted with so much confidence.

“You have so much faith, how adorable,” he snickered and then came closer again. “Your father was a much greater warrior than you yet he died by my hands. You’re about to die too, so what makes you think a group of Alphas, Betas and some puny werewolves will stop me? Amy doesn't even know how to tame her powers properly.”

“We’ll see who has the last laugh.”

He laughed till he left the room. And just like, that I hoped. I kept hoping as hours went by. Hoping to see my army led by Amy. Hours soon turned to a day until the night of the full moon came. Hayes’s men dragged me out of the dungeon with the chain around my neck. My muscles had grown numb from the relentless torture. I wobbled almost lifelessly amidst the ruins of the Pack and it brought ugly memories of that night this Pack was destroyed. The cries, the howls, the raging fire that set everything ablaze... but the most painful one was seeing Charlotte’s lifeless face.

When we got to the field, it was filled with hundreds of werewolves waiting to witness my final moments. Most of them weeped seeing me and a few mocked me. They dragged me to the center where a Guillotine was. I needed no one to tell me I was going to be beheaded and without wasting further time, they placed me in the machine. The executioner held onto the rope. He was huge with a ruthless face as he stood beside me. Yet, I still spent my time searching hopelessly amidst the crowd for Amy.

The crowds parted into two as Hayes walked in their center towards me. When he reached me, he snickered.

“Just like my father was beheaded, you will face that same fate,” he mocked and then turned to the crowd. “Tonight—” he announced and silence struck the crowd immediately. “—marks the end of an era and the beginning of a new era. Tonight, we shall all witness the end of Alpha Logan of Silver Crescent Pack!”

Tears started to fill my eyes as I stared at the grass beneath me.

“Now this is what I was looking forward to, seeing those feelings of fear and hopelessness in your eyes just before you die,” he gloated while I growled. He signaled to the executioner who was going to let go of the rope holding the blade anytime soon.

“Look closely, people!” Hayes announced as he stood proudly before me. “This is the fate that befalls my enemies. Alpha Logan’s execution will mark my first duty as the new Alpha King, it will be a message to all those who dare to revolt against me!”

“I might die today but you will never rule as Alpha King!!” I swore, tears trickling from my eyes.

“Behead him,” Hayes ordered and as the executioner made to let go of the rope, it felt like time slowed, my memories with Amy was all that flooded my head. How we had first met, how much we had grown to love each other. My only regret was that I failed to spend the rest of my life with her. And with that, I accepted my fate with a smile.

A loud howl occured faraway causing the executioner to stop. Everyone turned in the direction of the howl behind them. More Wolves started howling and I gasped. I could hear the pacing steps of paws and growls drawing nearer by the second. I recognized these scents, these howls, and most importantly I recognized the rhythm of her breath. The executioner quickly tied the rope so it held the blade in position.

My body came alive immediately as hundreds of wolves trooped out on the field, dashing towards the crowd from every angle. Everyone took to their heels except the guards who shapeshifted into their wolf form for battle. Hayes, on the other hand, remained in his position, unbothered. My nose suddenly caught a whiff of her jasmine scent. I gasped while my eyes searched for Amy amidst the ongoing mess and there they were, my Pack warriors, the imperial army yelling as they valiantly trooped directly to the field. For the first time in so long I saw a handful of Alphas and Betas in the troop.

More of Hayes’s men came dashing from the other side, but he raised his hand and they all stopped behind me and him, confused. The wolves attacking too suddenly stopped threading forward, likewise my men. Both parties had stopped meters away from each other, their eyes beaming a predatory golden yellow with their claws and fangs extended. Hayes was definitely waiting for their leader and in a matter of seconds, some of my men parted ways for their leader. Her silver hair packed in a messy bun stood out amidst the rest, she was wearing a zipped up black jacket on a pair of black jeans and boots. Her gray eyes gleamed of nothing but rage and vengeance.

“Amy!” I cried silently. Seeing her lead the imperial army without an iota of fear gleaming in her eyes reminded me of the man my father was. A warrior people revered.

“You came,” Hayes mumbled, sadness hinting in his voice.

“I have one last request, Hayes,” Amy replied. “Surrender and I'll spare your life. Consider this as your daughter’s last wish for you.”

Hayes shook his head. “In the end you took my stubbornness.”

Silence reigned between the two sides for a long time, and as the full moon dawned amidst the skies, Amy raised her hand.

“Attack!!” She dropped her hand and her troops dashed towards Hayes’s troops. Hayes gave his signal too and both sides lurched at each other.

“No,” I wriggled my head as Hayes transformed into a silver furred wolf while Amy, a white wolf. The ground quaked as more and more people transformed into their wolves, killing each other mercilessly as the smell of blood filled the air. Amy was definitely going to die once she clashes with her father.

“Please!!” I cried, begging the moon goddess in my heart. “I love her! I can't bear to see my people die again! I’m supposed to be their protector!!” I yelled to the moon and my heart and breaths suddenly stopped. My head went blank as my consciousness got sucked into a black hole. No, it wasn't a black hole, I was standing before a gigantic black wolf with raging red eyes. It was my wolf! For the first time in decades I could feel my wolf reconnecting back to my soul.

My curse, it was broken!
