Chapter 64
LOGAN.
“It's over between us, Logan. I, Amy Lancaster, reject you as my mate!”
Amy’s words blared in my head like a loud alarm, jolting my eyes open to the darkness surrounding me. My head was raging with a migraine and at the same time, I felt lightheaded. I had lost track of time ever since I was locked in this dungeon. I was chained to a metal chair and occasionally, my body was injected with poison by Hayes’s men, constantly weakening me. The cold in the dungeon wasn't helping matters either, yet this pain was nothing compared to what Amy had done to me. All that raged in my head ever since I’d been captured was how she was faring, How she was dealing with the pain, if she was supporting her father or not. Her father was the masked Alpha after all, a man that had a notorious talent in manipulating people and with Amy by his side, he would literally be unstoppable.
My teeth gnashed against each other as another round of tears itched my eyes. This was all my fault. I failed her and what hurt the most is I might never get to correct this grave error of mine. Death was certainly a fate that was hovering over me if I didn't make any move.
The prison door gradually opened and I was expecting to see one of Hayes’s henchmen to come do the usual but this time it was someone else. Someone awfully familiar. The man that had betrayed me and the Pack and let the Rogue prisoner escape. Anger brewed in me like brimstone fire and I wanted nothing more but to rip his heart out.
“You finally came,” I growled while he came closer to me. “David.”
“Forgive me, Alpha!” He fell to his knees, crying but i didn't buy an ounce of his charade. Seeing him only took me back to that night we were chasing after the rogue’s car. I recognized the car’s plate number. It belonged to my chauffeur, David.
“You have served me for several years now, have I ever treated you poorly during those times?” I queried angrily and he shook his head, still weeping.
“I failed you, Alpha. I failed the Luna.”
“No you betrayed me, you bastard!” I growled. “Not only did you betray my trust, you betrayed the Pack and you have the audacity to play this cheap charade of yours before me!”
“I had no choice, Alpha.”
“Since when have you been a spy for Hayes?”
He looked up to me, his lips twitching.
“Answer me!!”
“Ever since the day his men came to attack the Pack for Amy!”
I wanted to break free but the chains surrounding my body were too tight for my current strength.
“That day,” he continued, “my wife and kids had left the Pack early before the attack to visit her grandmother but on their way…” His voice trailed off. “They were abducted by Hayes’s men. The only way they could be safe in their custody was if I acted as a spy and reported you and Amy’s every move. I couldn't tell you because if I did, they would have killed my family. Alpha, you have to believe me–”
“Shut it,'' I growled, he gasped, his eyes mirroring my eyes glowing red. The fear that painted all over him wasn't enough to satisfy me. I needed more, I wanted his blood for betraying me. I wanted him to suffer in the same way I was.
“Alpha Logan, please–”
“Remember the first time we met,” I uttered and his chest towered down in a heavy manner. “You were a slave recently sold to rogues. I saved you, I gave you a new life in my Pack. I gave you everything you ever wanted. A good life, a family, a job, peace. You know better that if you dreamed of anything more I wouldn't hesitate to give you. Yet you didn't think twice before betraying me!”
“Alpha Logan, I really had no choice, the lives of my family were at stake."
“You should have trusted me!!”
His breath ceased.
“I am your Alpha! I am your protector! You could have trusted me enough to handle it properly!”
He bowed his head, tears trickling to the ground but I still didn't feel an ounce of pity or sympathy for him.
“You had a choice, David. To put faith in your Alpha or choose to serve the enemy.”
“I’m sorry, Alpha Logan. I regret making such a foolish mistake–”
“Is your family safe now?”
He nodded sharply. “They are with their grandmother now. Things are not really going quite well at the Pack currently.”
“Of course, now that you’ve sold me out. You get to keep your family while I lose mine.”
“Alpha Logan, I know that you hate me now for what I did but I swear on my life that I will do all I can to save you.”
“You couldn't save your family from getting abducted yet you intend to save me.”
“One chance! One chance, I beg of you–”
“The only chance I'm going to give you is to run,” I asserted icily and he locked eyes with me in disbelief. “Run as far as you can. Run to the end of this world if you can because at the slightest chance I get to escape from this place, you are at the top of my target list. I will make sure your family mourns you!”
Tears poured down his cheeks while my eyes reverted back to normal.
“Leave,” I ordered but he remained in his position like a statue. “Leave, David.”
“Alpha, please–”
“Didn't you hear him?”
David and I gasped as we stared at the door side where Amy was standing. There she was, in a black coat and a pair of white top and blue jeans complemented with knee high black heel boots. Her gray eyes gleamed of how much tears and stress they had endured. Those loving eyes that used to give me warmth were now expressing nothing but sadness. My heart was thumping so loud that I could barely hear my own thoughts. I was growing breathless by the moment but at the same time I felt so much relief just seeing her alone.
“Don't worry, David, he won't hurt you as long as I'm alive,” she said, glaring at me. “You can go.”
“Yes, Luna,” he answered with a nod and left the dungeon. The moment he closed the door behind him, Amy sauntered closer to me. Her jasmine scent basked all over me and only then could I breathe properly. Tears trickled from my eyes down to the ground but her sad gaze still remained.
Just how much hell had she gone through just to reach me?
