Chapter 87: Daniel, not so fast
Daniel was moving like lightning, showing off his natural aggressive streak in that tense moment.
Donovan didn't even get a chance to warn him. The second the first guy hit the ground, Daniel was already on the move, yanking out a dagger and jabbing it into the throat of the second hotel security guard who was trying to pull out a gun.
Backing up Daniel was a total stress-fest. By the time Donovan had taken someone out and dashed to the second floor, Daniel was already in the thick of it.
The silencer did its job, but thinking no one would hear anything at close range was just wishful thinking.
When Daniel hit the second-floor hallway, he ran into another group of guards coming out of three rooms, barely 30 feet away.
But the darkness was Daniel's best friend. The guards couldn't see him clearly in the dimly lit second floor, and they didn't notice James sneaking up from another direction.
Daniel watched as James swung a hunting knife, slashing one guy's throat, then turned and stabbed another in the side.
A 48-inch knife plunged into a body, and the guy couldn't even scream, just let out a weird nasal grunt.
When the guy in front tried to turn around and use his phone as a flashlight, both Daniel and Donovan, who had caught up, fired at the same time.
Daniel took out three, Donovan got two.
Seeing Daniel about to kick open a closed door, Donovan rushed over and grabbed the seemingly humble but actually fierce Daniel, saying with a sigh, "I'll kick the door, you guys cover me. Inside are Mori Family members and their bodyguards."
Saying this, Donovan quietly walked to the door, turned his back to it, and kicked it open. As the door swung open, he darted in the opposite direction, using the door's movement to distract the enemy, and started shooting.
As soon as the door was kicked open, gunfire erupted inside. Donovan was just a hair faster than the opponent, dodging the shots. Daniel and James, forming crossfire at the doorway, didn't give the enemy any more chances.
James, holding his gun at his waist, pulled the trigger and took out the shooting bodyguard. Then he followed Donovan into the room, shooting at anyone he saw, while blocking the door to keep Daniel out.
The MP7's gunfire was muffled by the silencer, but its high rate of fire made it a beast in close combat.
A guy crouching on the far side of the bed, trying to shoot blindly with his head down, was taken out before he could fire.
Standing at the door, Daniel peeked inside and said, "Donovan, check the bodies and see if the targets are dead."
Donovan, clutching his bullet-grazed left arm, stood up and walked to the body by the bed, glanced at it, and said, "It's the Mori Family's eldest son."
Daniel frowned and said, "Where's the Oakenshield contact? They haven't slept and have been waiting for news; they should be together."
As Daniel spoke, James had quietly moved to the bathroom door inside the room.
Just as Daniel finished speaking, James, holding a reloaded MP7, fired a burst of bullets through the bathroom door.
Daniel heard movement in the bathroom. As soon as James emptied the magazine, Daniel rushed over, kicked open the bathroom door, and shot a cowering Oakenshield contact multiple times.
This time he aimed for the heart. After the Oakenshield contact died, Daniel signaled Donovan to take a look.
Confirming it was the target, Daniel decisively said, "Let's bounce."
Daniel wasn't about to stick around. Knowing the enemy's identity, there was no need to capture them alive for interrogation. Asking questions would only bring frustration, as knowing more about the spies' activities would just be self-torment.
Anyway, if you wanna mess with me, you're dead. Details? Who cares. What matters is you're six feet under!
Like James always says, "If the enemy's dead, it means you're right!"
Hearing Daniel's order to bounce, James rasped, "Daniel, we still got some time."
With that, James darted to the far side of the room, yanked out two briefcases from a cabinet, and even snagged the silver handgun from the Mori Family guy's hand.
"There's a truck loaded with weapons in the backyard. Should we snag it?"
Daniel was momentarily stunned, then turned and walked out, waving his hand, "How much are a few busted guns worth? The folks next door are onto us. Let's roll before the south side catches wind."
Seeing James's actions, Donovan rummaged through the body in the bathroom, then suddenly remembered something, ran to the Mori Family guy's body, and took his watch, pocketing it.
Then he followed Daniel. Passing by James, Donovan glanced at the briefcases in James's hand and said, "James, your greed is something else, but no matter how much cash you rake in, you gotta stay alive to spend it."
James didn't bother explaining to Donovan that he knew the area better and was confident they could get out. He just thought Donovan was a bit of a wuss, and Daniel might be slowed down by him, potentially cutting into their earnings.
Regretfully glancing at the unsearched room, James caught up with Donovan and whispered, "I saw you grabbing loot. You gotta hand it over to Daniel for splitting."
Without waiting for Donovan to argue, James quickly caught up with Daniel, handed him the briefcases, and then led the way as they quickly ducked into a dark alley.
After weaving through the maze of buildings for 10 minutes, someone finally checked the hotel and started firing warning shots.
Seeing they were about to hit the junkyard, Daniel quickly pressed the radio and said, "Hold your fire, hold your fire, we're out. Wait for me, wait for me."
The whole thing went way smoother than Daniel had imagined. Always on edge, Daniel only relaxed after reuniting with Nis and the crew, feeling a bit sore from the relief.
This was just his muscles reacting to all the tension. Daniel's body was a bit stiff during the op, otherwise, he could've moved even faster in the hotel.
When Daniel sat down to catch his breath, he noticed Donovan's arm was injured.
Seeing Donovan clutching his arm silently, Daniel asked, "You good? If you're hit, speak up."
Donovan gave a wry smile and shook his head, "It's nothing, just a graze. I'll patch it up later."
Saying this, Donovan watched James carefully stash his night vision goggles into his backpack and shook his head in frustration.
In a three-person team, he, the supposed pro, was dragging them down, making him doubt if his old team was really special forces.
Too wild, too fast!
Daniel's shooting speed and accuracy were insane!
Frustrated, Donovan took the large bandage Natalie handed him, slapped it on his arm, and said to Daniel, "Daniel, if we hit a similar situation again, can you wait for me a bit? We could actually do better."
Saying this, Donovan awkwardly avoided James's gaze and asked, "What's next?"
Daniel, peering through binoculars at the road to the south, saw a convoy of armed pickups heading towards the small town hotel. He grinned and said, "We'll chill for a bit. We can't lug the mortar with us anyway. Let's give them a surprise while they head to the hotel.
I need everyone to know that messing with an arms dealer ends badly!"
